"We are a nation of immigrants. We all understand what this country has become because talent from all around the world wants to come here, people who want to build their dreams and make sure their kids have even bigger dreams than they have." - President Barack Obama

Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is known for its diverse community, welcoming students and staff from across North America and beyond. The school is a melting pot of cultures, with representatives from almost every Indigenous tribe and region of North America. Its doors are open to transfer students from various parts of the globe, making it the most ethnically and racially diverse institution in the Wizarding World. The largest Indigenous peoples represented at Ilvermorny are the Navajo, Tlingit, Creek, Blackfoot, Apache, Cree, Choctaw, Kiowa, Shoshone, Iroquois, Chippewa, Iroquois, Chumash, Crow, Cheyenne, Sioux, Shawnee, Comanche, and the Cherokee. The school's three most commonly spoken languages are English, French, and Spanish. America is a nation of immigrants. Ilvermorny is a school that was founded by immigrants, as it reflects America's diverse population. The school welcomes students from various nationalities and ethnicities including those who have recently moved to America, Canada, or Mexico, as well as students from Central America and the Caribbean. Like Hogwarts, Ilvermorny teaches and houses students from different faiths such as Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, and Buddhism. Ilvermorny has a larger Jewish student population than Hogwarts because of the significant Jewish community in the United States, particularly in New York. The school has several ethnic clubs like The Sons and Daughters of St. Patrick, Mexican Heritage Club, and Fratelli e Sorelle d'Italia where students can connect with peers from similar backgrounds. Ilvermorny has the largest LGBTQ+ population among all Wizarding World schools. As a school with roots in Ireland, the Irish constitute its largest ethnic group.

The majority of the student body, 80%, hails from the United States. Another 10% come from Canada, while 8% originate from Mexico. The remaining 2% is divided between Central American countries, such as Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, and the Caribbean (except for Trinidad and Tobago, which is under Castelobruxo's jurisdiction). In terms of ethnicity, 75% of students identify as Caucasian. Black or African-American students make up 9% of the population, while Hispanic students account for 7%. Asian students represent 5% of the school population, with Native American students comprising 3%, Pacific Islanders, and those identifying as another race make up 0.5% of the student body.

Ilvermorny welcomes all individuals with magical potential who apply, and the majority of its students come from North America. Typically, students attend a school that covers their geographic area due to tradition, family connections, convenience, and other factors. Therefore, Ilvermorny primarily has a student body consisting of North Americans. It is not uncommon for older students from one country to seek admission to a school in another country due to their specialized field of interest. Castelobruxo, for instance, receives applications from aspiring Magizoologists and Herbologists from all over the globe who wish to study in their final years of primary schooling or as an intern/apprentice working under a professor. This process is similar to graduate studies at a No-Maj university.

Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry does not admit students from the U.S. Territories such as Puerto Rico, Guam, The Northern Mariana Islands, American Samoa, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. However, these young witches and wizards are provided with correspondence courses and are homeschooled. Conversely, students from Hawaii and Alaska are admitted but they leave earlier than students from any other state in the U.S.

At Ilvermorny, discrimination against students based on their race, sexual orientation, ethnicity, or No-Maj origin is strictly prohibited. Those who violate these laws will face appropriate consequences. It is important to note that pure-blood fanaticism is not prevalent at Ilvermorny, and individuals who promote such ideas will be punished severely. Ilvermorny was co-founded by a No-Maj, which is a testament to its inclusive values. While there may be some individuals who hold bigoted beliefs, this is not a reflection of the school's overall ethos. In America, ideals of blood purity hold no ground, and everyone likely has some No-Maj ancestry, regardless of where they come from.
