Isolt Sayre (1603-1706), a woman of many talents and a Pure-blood witch originally from Ireland, led a remarkable life. She was a paranormal investigator, wand theorist, explorer, professor, archaeologist, botanist, and anthropologist. She escaped from her cruel and evil aunt and eventually co-founded the prestigious Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry with her family in North America.

Until the age of five, Isolt lived a very happy life with her parents, who were friendly and helpful to their Muggle neighbors, in the valley of Coomloughra in County Kerry

Until the age of five, Isolt lived a very happy life with her parents, who were friendly and helpful to their Muggle neighbors, in the valley of Coomloughra in County Kerry. Things changed suddenly for Isolt when an attack involving a fire killed her parents, and an estranged aunt took the girl to live with her in the next valley called Hag's Glen. Isolt's Aunt Gormlaith was a fanatical proponent of Pure-blood supremacy who isolated her niece from her Muggle neighbors and any chance of being led astray, going so far as to deny the girl a chance to attend Hogwarts or own a wand and abused the young girl. In the main, she did this to denigrate the place, lamenting that Salazar Slytherin's plans for the purity of wizardkind had not been fulfilled. To her niece, isolated and mistreated by an aunt she believed to be at least half-insane, Hogwarts sounded like a kind of paradise and she spent much of her teens fantasizing about it.

As she grew older and entered her teens, Isolt realized that her aunt had not rescued her, but rather kidnapped her. It dawned on her that her aunt was not only her kidnapper but also the person who had murdered her loving parents. In her late teens, Isolt managed to escape, taking with her Gormlaith's wand and her mother's Gordian Knot brooch, and headed east to Dublin.
