"I see." she said, nodding her head. I silently sat awaiting her next move. "Well.. the spaceship I was working on kind of got... destroyed." She paused, looking up at me for a moment before her eyes retreated downward once again.

"I - I'm still really sorry about that.. it was just Cake's Croak dream I just.. I don't know I-"

"Fionna I understand. It's okay. I still happen to have the book I used, though." she smiled as I rubbed the back of my neck. Marshall gave me a raised eyebrow, clearly lost in the conversation. I don’t think I ever told him about the story and made a mental note that I should do that sometime. While lost in my thoughts I failed to notice Banana Woman leaving us to travel to another room and was surprised when she suddenly held a book in her hand.

The book was a deep navy color, the binding falling apart and the pages a yellow color, but still in tact. She held it out to me and I gladly accepted it, giving her a smile as I did.

"Bring this back if you can, please?" she asked, a more serious look in her eyes than what came in through her words. I nodded and took the book, turning back towards Marshall and giving him a nod. This had been easier than I thought. Marshall opened the door and stepped out in front of me. Before I could follow him, a hand tugged at my shoulder and spun me around in surprise.

Staring back at me was a very different Banana Woman, her eyes clouded over with a deep emotion I couldn’t name. "Bring the book back.” she began, her voice deeper than before. “If you don't, I will personally see to it that you won't have to have your Croak dream to die. " She hissed out, her fingers mushing onto my shoulder.

My mouth dropped open and her words left me speechless. A grin threatened to come to my face but I willed myself to hold it back. I wasn’t scared of the woman, just surprised. I was most taken back by the sudden evilness in Banana Woman appearance, her eyes bulging out of their sockets, her grip firm, and her face in a snarl. I shook my head, my brain in total shock. She turned me towards the door and whispered one final unsettling goodbye in my ear.

I walked out of the door and released a breath I didn’t know I had been holding. A grin slid across my face as I noticed Marshall had been listening the whole time.

"Wolf, Fionna." Marshall laughed, floating beside me.

"Did you see that?" I laughed, holding the book tightly to my chest.

He nodded and laughed along, picking me up again, the same way as before. I squirmed in his hold, trying to make my way to the ground but he only pushed me closer. I finally gave up and settled my head on his chest, a smirk forming at his face.

"Enjoying yourself?" I huffed.

"Very."

"Quit your disgusting flirting." I groaned and pushed on his chest, a little blush forming on my face.

"Impossible." he gave me another trademark smirk, making my heart accidentally beat a little faster.

As we floated along I felt tiny drops of water pounce off of my forehead. "What the Glob? Is it going to rain?" I asked, holding out my hand. Before Marshall could utter any words it began to pour rain, soaking us instantly. In that moment, for some odd reason, my mind decided to let me remember the warm kiss the two of us had shared, and for being just friends.. I missed it.

"Fi." he panted, his voice deepening and making my body grow weaker than it already was. "We can't make it to the castle in this." I observed small pieces of ice that began to fall around us, one or two hitting me in the head, and I knew he was right. I nodded my head and he quickly flew us into a patch of nearby trees. Their branches and many leaves gave us little shelter from the ice and rain, but it was enough. I wondered if it was Ice Queen up to this or just Glob himself, but either way I was already shivering from the cold.

Marshall placed me on a tree that had fallen down and assumed his position next to me. His shoulder wrapped around me, forcing our bodies together for warmth. I looked down and noticed the books pages that had already begun to wrinkle. My shivers increased as the rain pounded down against the leaves and Marshall quickly took off his shirt to place on me. The only thing that covered his slightly toned chest now was a wet, gray, tank top that clung to him like a second skin and let me see almost every part of him.

I couldn’t help but stare and ended up staring a little too long. Of course, this didn’t slip past Marshall as his eyes met mine with a questioning but cocky glance. I turned away as he began to chuckle, my pride ordering me to say something before he did.

"You know your shirt doesn't really help me get warm, its wet too." I snapped, rolling my eyes.

"Sure, Fi, if it'll get you to stop staring at me." he said laughing, plucking his shirt from me and buttoning it back on. There was no use in fighting back so I sat silently, my cheeks burning in defeat.

I held the book closer to my body, hoping it wouldn't be too damaged by the time I got it back to Gumball. We sat there talking (I couldn't help feeling like Marshall was bothered by something) until the rain began to lighten up and when it did, Marshall as usual, swooped me from the ground and flew us to the candy kingdom.

When we reached the castle I demanded that I walk and Marshall, after several minutes of debating, agreed to my requests and set me on the ground. I flew through the large double doors, not stopping to say hello to the two current banana guards. I rushed into Gumball's lab and Marshall lazily floated behind. Although a few pages of the book had been soaked completely, he thanked me and said he would take care of it.

By then the strange storm had stopped entirely and crickets chirped with excitement for the arrival of stars. A cool night breeze brushed my face as I looked out of the window. "Let's take you home." I heard from behind me, the same voice I had been talking to all day. I sighed and walked beside him, my order for no flying still in place.

"You need to get out of these wet clothes before you get sick." he said, pointing a finger at me and raising his eyebrows. I gave him a glare and let out a quick breath of air through my nose.

"Yes, father." I replied sarcastically.

He rambled on, trying to pick on me but my mind wondered off to other things.

The kiss.

My kiss.

Our kiss.

He's kissed a lot of people. Our's didn't matter.

But what got me really confused, was that, 'ours' was better than when I kissed Flame.

I...

I was snapped back into reality by the call of my name.

"Fi?"

"Hmm?"

"Are you coming?"

"Oh." I blushed, realizing I was now home. I opened and stepped through the door, behind Marshall, and headed upstairs. I quickly changed into my pjs (shorts and a t-shirt) and slipped back downstairs, glad to see the Vampire Demon still awaiting me.

"Got anything for me?" he asked, referring to dry clothes. I ran back upstairs and came down with a plain purple t-shirt. I threw it at him and he slightly frowned but went to change anyway, coming out looking unhappy in his non matching boxer shorts and my shirt. I laughed, only to get a glare in return.

"I'm staying here tonight." He said, as if it weren't already obvious and crossed his arms over his chest.

"I just can't get rid of you, can I?" I asked, smiling. He knew I never minded his company, even though we annoyed each other to death sometimes. He was my closest friend, nowadays.

"Not even if you tried, which you don't." he winked at me. I smiled but rolled my eyes and turned around, getting the movies we were about to watch. We fell asleep; my head on his chest and our arms wrapped around each other's. The rising and falling of Marshall's breathing eased me into sleep, my mind disregarding the thoughts of kissing I had had before.

I awoke to a horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach. I sat up and held my head in my hands, taking deep breaths to calm myself so I didn't wake Marshall. I couldn't help but think of the outcomes that could happen if Gumball wouldn't be able to complete Marshall's promise.

And that...

Truly scared me.
