Chapter 93: They've Gone Crazy

Dove || Zerenity

"Um, hello?"

"Hey, Zerenity."

"Dovey~Chan! It's been forever! How are you? What's college like? Are you making sure to study hard?"

"I'm good, college is pretty cool, and I study a moderate amount."

"Wow... you're so mature."

I squint my eyes though she can't see me. What's so mature about the things I just said? "Uh, thanks? Anyway... how's life going for you?"

"It's going okay. I'm literally dying though! I have so much to do in so little time! What I'm about to say may sound mean but I don't mean it in a mean way: If you were calling from your regular number, I wouldn't have answered. I saw this number wasn't saved in my phone and immediately answered thinking it was a college." I'm about to answer but she cuts me off. "Don't get mad! I don't answer anyone else's calls either. The only time I talk to anyone is at school."

"I should get a special pass for that rule because I can't talk to you at school."

"Oh, that's right. Five minutes once a week, that's all the time I have to spare."

"Are you overexerting yourself?"

"No, I'm fine. All I'm doing is... deep researching one college a day, studying really really really hard, a few more extracurriculars, volunteer work around the neighborhood-- that one has nothing to do with college, I just saw a volunteer sign, decided to check it out and it was really fun-- and going to work. That's all."

"That's all? Are you kidding me?!"

"Sorry, Dovey~Chan. I really have to go."

"No--"

 She hung up right in my face.

I call Travis because Zerenity's a lunatic.

Dove || Travis

He answers and he coughs. "Hello?"

"Woah. Why do you sound like death?"

"I'm sick."

"Right. Um, get better soon?"

"Thanks."

"Now... question. Why are you letting Zerenity go crazy and do a thousand things at once? Aren't you supposed to be her best friend? Help her chill."

"She doesn't answer her phone and I haven't been to school in days. Who knew that one ice cream in the middle of winter, could kill someone?"

"Why would you get ice cream in the middle of winter?"

"Stacy, the girl I'm going out with, wanted to--"

"Hold on." I blink a couple of times. "Going out with? As in dating? You're dating someone? Someone who isn't Zerenity?"

"Surprisingly, yes."

"Why?"

"She asked me out, I couldn't just say no."

"Going out implies more than one date though."

"I know."

"I don't ship it. Anyway, there's nothing you can do to help Zerenity?"

"Like I said, I never see her and she won't answer her phone."

"You're useless to me."

I start calling the next person I can think of. Lyrvanna.

Dove || Lyrvanna

Music in the background fills my ears as she laughs. "Oh my Irene! Dove! Hey!"

"Lyrvanna? Where are you? It's super loud."

"What? I can't hear you, hold on." After a bit, it gets quieter. "Okay, what did you say?"

"I said, where are you?"

"Oh! I'm at a party!"

"You? At a party?" First, Travis got a girlfriend... and now, Lyrvanna's at a party. What happened after I left?

"I know right! Not going to lie, it's a little fun. Wanna know something crazy? I actually ran into Dante here, remember how he used to force me to go with him to parties? Now, I'm going on my own and we're bumping into each other."

"Why is he there?"

"I don't know but I'm assuming it's because he's from PDU. This is a PDH and a PDU only party."

"Okay... Anyway, I have a question."

"Alrighty~! Shoot!"

"Can you try to force Zerenity to stop overexerting herself?"

"Zerenity? Oh, we don't talk anymore. We kind of just... fell out. I'm pretty sure we aren't friends."

"Did I hear that correctly? Did you just say you two weren't friends?"

"Yeah... we don't really have classes together and we kind of stopped talking. We still see each other at cheer practice but... that's about it."

"This is insane! I leave that school for only a couple months and everything fell apart."

"OMI! Like, you don't even know! Zerenity's become a college maniac, Travis has girls CHASING after him, I'm actually popular... It's crazy! Got anyone else you want to know about because I have the tea on EVERYONE!"

"My head is actually spinning, the easiest one to believe is that Zerenity is going crazy over college."

"Don't worry, I don't believe the other ones either. OMI! You wanna know something funny? I jokingly signed Zane up for a club at our school called, 'Emo Kids Unite' and he actually didn't quit. He goes to every meeting, it's hilarious."

"... ... ... ...Oh, uh, wow. Um, seriously?"

"You don't sound like you're laughing." In the background, someone shouts something. "OMI! Really?! Sorry, Dove, I gotta go! Call me again soon, okay? It's fun talking to you! Miss you~! Bye!"

I sit up on my bed and scratch my head. Is it just me or did the world literally flip upside down?
