Chapter 26: Sophomore Year
~Travis~
~Monday~

Sophomore year, here I come.

"Travis!" Dante greets me, "How was your summer? Did you and Lyrvanna hit it off after all? When Aphmau had that group hangout, you guys didn't seem so awkward."

"No, we broke up the first day of summer, we didn't seem awkward because it wasn't." I shrug.

"What? What happened?" He wonders.

"Seriously? I already told you this." I shake my head.

"I forgot, I had a summer full of bikini babes." He smiles.

I shake my head, "Anyway..."

~Flashback~

"So..." I say starting a conversation.

"So..." Lyrvanna says.

We were sitting at the park for a hangout. It was just as awkward as usual, we had nothing to say.

"Any idea what, um, c-couples do?" He asks.

"Well... in anime, they talk, go on dates, k-k-k-k..." she chokes on her words.

I think about what she could be trying to say then accidentally blurt out the thought, "Kiss?" My eyes widen instantly regretting it.

The atmosphere gets ten times more awkward, "You don't mean us right? Right?"

"I didn't." What she wants to though? Quickly, I say, "U-Unless you want to?"

"U-Um... do you want to?" She asks.

What if she's asking me so she doesn't get embarrassed and if I say 'no' then she'd say she 'didn't want to either' but then she's heartbroken? "I guess?"

Her eyes widen as her cheeks turn red as she looks away, "O-Okay..." She turns her head back my way and we both start slowly and awkwardly leaning in.

I need to stop this.

Suddenly, we both pull away shouting, "I can't do this!" We stare at each other, "You can't?!" We both click our heads to the side confused, "But I thought..." Soon enough we're both laughing our butts off.

"So this entire time, neither of us liked each other in that way?" I laugh.

"I guess not! This week has been so awkward for nothing." She laughs.

"Very."

"How about we finish the rest of this hangout as friends? No awkwardness, just friends."

"That'd be great." I agree.

~Present~

"Oh, yeah, you did tell me that." Dante nods.

I playfully roll my eyes, "What homeroom do you have this year?"

"Ms. Reins, I heard she's great," he says.

"Wait, I have her too, I thought homeroom classes and grade levels didn't mix." I look at my schedule again.

"They changed it this year, they've given up on separating grade levels, I heard their doing free days every now and then too. You get to roam the hall freely without teachers yelling at you," he exclaims.

"That seems awesome," I say as the bell rings. Dante and I start making our way to our class.

"I bet it is, but it's once a month, still gives me time to work with the ladies." He winks to a group of girls. Some blush the others look like they want to murder him.
