Chapter 71: The Classroom
~Zane~

Today's the day I've been dreading. Monday.

Dove and I haven't talked all weekend. Call me dramatic all you want. I just don't want to know what happens next, our arguments never last more than an hour.

This time was different.

It was about something that actually mattered.

Dove is going away to college soon and she doesn't even care that the college she picked is so far away from Phoenix Drop since I'll be staying here. She is a year older than me after all.

"Zane." Zerenity's voice calls out as I walk into homeroom. I turn to her and raise an eyebrow. She smiles at me and bounces toward me, she hands me a slip of paper. "Go to this room, I don't know why right now. Just hurry before class starts."

"If you don't know why, why should I go? Can't you go yourself?" I groan and start walking toward my seat but she blocks me.

"It's really important but I can't go because I..." she looks around, "I have homework to finish."

"Really? You always do your homework literally the second you get home. You dramatically drop to the floor right in front of the door and work on it."

"I forgot one? Just hurry." She shoves the paper in my hand.

It's definitely suspicious that she's making me do this but I've learned not to question her too much, it only makes me even more confused. I quickly leave the room so I can get to the room Zerenity wants me to go to before the bell rings.

It's nearly impossible but the class is close and who knows what's in the room. Probably nothing and she's just playing a joke on me. If she is, she's going to get it after school. She recently bought some cupcake frosting, it'd be a shame if I ate it all.

I get to the room and unlock the door using the key taped to the paper. "Zerenity?" A familiar voice calls and I stop in my tracks. "ABOUT TIME! YOU LOCKED ME IN HERE AN HOUR AGO! AND IS THAT DOOR MADE OF TITANIUM!? WHY COULDN'T I BREAK IT DO-- Zane?" Dove stares at me as I stand at the door. Suddenly, I'm being pushed into the room and the door swings closed and it locks behind me.

"Make up!" Zerenity's voice screeches through the door.

"Zerenity!" We both shout before we look at each other. Both of us turn away from each other at the same time. The room grows silent as both of us refuse to say a word to each other.

The tension is thick but neither of us decides to react to it. The tension continues to grow and grow as I think back to the argument in my room on Friday. Soon the tension is so thick that I blurt.

"Maybe we should break up." I feel her swish around and stare at me. Her gaze burns a hole in my neck.

"We should... what?" She hisses. I attempt to say at least until both of us are done with college but I can't get the words out. "WHAT DO YOU MEAN WE SHOULD BREAK UP?!" She lunges at me.

"I was just saying that--"

"WHAT IS ONE LITTLE ARGUMENT TOO MUCH FOR YOU?!"

"That's not what I--"

"IRENE! YOU COULDN'T EVEN TAKE--"

"WILL YOU SHUT UP?!" I snap.

She goes quiet for a split second but she's yelling again. "DON'T TELL ME TO SHUT UP! I CAN TALK AND YELL ALL I WANT TO OKAY?! DO YOU WANT TO FIGHT ME?!"

"WHAT IS WITH YOU AND FIGHTING?! CALM DOWN FOR A SECOND!"

"ME?! ME?! YOU CALM DOWN! YOU TOOK THIS WHOLE THING WAY TOO FAR! YOU WANT TO BREAK UP!" She quiets down for a bit. "You want to break up." For a split second, I feel bad but then she grabs my shirt and shakes me by it. "YOU TOOK IT TOO FAR?!"

"ME?!" I no longer feel bad for saying it. "YOU'RE TAKING IT TOO FAR!" I push her off of me. "YOU GET MAD AND YOU TRY TO FIGHT! WILL YOU STOP THAT?!"

"YOU CAN'T EVEN DEAL WITH NO SEEING ME FOR SHORT PERIODS OF TIME YOU PSYCHO!"

"Yeah, but you can deal with not seeing me, right?"

"That's not what I-- I-- UGH!" She punches me and the world goes dark.
