Chapter 68: You Don't Care, I Don't Care
~Zane~
Dove and I just laid around on the floor in my room, bored out of our minds. There was nothing to do at all. So I decided to just create small talk or something. "Did you get your acceptance letter for Phoenix Drop University yet?" Technically, it's not acceptance letter time but I hope she the idea that I was trying to say something.
"Actually, I decided not to go to PDU after all. I'm going to try to go to Redbird University instead." Dove shrugs.
"Really?" RBU is about eight hours away.
"Yeah, it has better classes for what I want to major in."
"Oh."
"Yeah..."
We fall silent not knowing what to say. There's a type of tension forming and neither of us knows what to do about it. Maybe it's because neither of us like that she'll be so far away or maybe it's just me. "It's an eight-hour drive, we'll never see each other-- at least until holiday breaks."
"I know," she comments and it's back to silence.
After just staring at her for a full minute as she just scrolls through her phone, I raise an eyebrow. "So you're okay with that?"
"No, but I need to do this so I'll be able to do something I love."
"Yeah, I got that, but you're not reacting to, you know," I rub the back of my neck still not used to this whole 'dating' thing, "'us'... at all."
"But you sure are!" She looks away from me. "We'll see each other sometimes..."
"So what you're saying is, you don't care?" I squint at her, she starts to say something but shuts her mouth, "Fine, then I don't care." I storm out of my room.
"Hey!" Dove shouts after me.
"What?" I turn to her. She's standing at the top of the stairs staring me down.
"Are you seriously getting upset about this? Are you really so set on the present? At least we'd have the opportunity to see each other sometimes! Imagine if I applied for the school that I really want to go to! It's halfway across the country!" She huffs.
"If you're so set on following your dreams, why didn't you just go?" I fold my arms.
She goes quiet for a second before shouting, "Fight me!" She dashes down the stairs and stares at me.
"No." I scoff. She does some type of battle cry before tackling me. "Dove! Get off of me!"
She ignores me. "You want to move far away now, huh?! That's what you want?"
"That isn't what I--"
"Dovey~Chan!" Zerenity gasps and tries to get Dove off of me. "You're supposed to tackle him with hugs and kisses, not this!"
"Why would I do that?!" Dove fights to... fight me but somehow Zerenity actually manages to hold her back. Never thought I'd say this but, thank Irene for ZPrevail.
"Because it's better than trying to kill him!" She shouts and Dove continues to struggle as I squirm away. "We need to sit down and talk this out!"
Dove finally breaks out of Zerenity's arms, I freak out thinking she's going to attack me again but she storms over to the door. "No way I'm doing anything like that. I'm going home." She bursts out the front door.
"Dove!" Zerenity shouts out the door before running after her.
Vylad comes downstairs and stares at me in confusion. "What's going on? I heard yelling."
Then Garroth walks in. "Where's Dove? Did you two have an argument?"
I scoff and start to stomp off but Zerenity's voice shouts, "Hold him back!" Before I can run off, Garroth and Vylad each grab one of my arms. Zerenity slowly walks in front of me with her hands on her hips trying to seem like the boss of something. "So, big brother of mine, what happened?!"
"I have a right not to say anything." I stubbornly turn my head away from her and close my eyes so I can't see her at all.
"No, you don't. Tell us!" She demands.
"No!"
"Tell us!" All three of them demand.
"Let go of me!" I attempt to break out of their grasps but it's no use.
"Baby brother, we're your siblings, we're here to help you through any problem." Garroth basically gives another one of his 'family speeches'. I open my eyes just to roll them.
"But you have to tell us what the problem is." Zerenity adds nodding and standing heroically. Who does she think she is today?
There's no way I'm doing this. After struggling for what seemed like forever, I break out of their arms. "No, I don't!" I shout and dash to my room.
They run after me and pound on the door. "Zane!" They shout.
"Will you guys GO AWAY AND LEAVE ME ALONE!" I shout.
"No! At least give us the basics of what happened!" Zerenity pleads.
I just roll my eyes and put some earbuds in. There is absolutely no way I'm saying a thing. All three of them are just way too hugging and touchy, they'd turn it into some type of sibling bonding thing and I couldn't stand it.
Besides, it's nothing.
Just nothing.
I don't care.
At all.
As long as she doesn't care about our... ...relationship, I don't care about our... relationship. I wasn't used to that word anyway.
I definitely don't care.
It's fine.
Then the song 'I'm Not Okay, I Promise' by My Chemical Romance comes on my playlist.
When songs are on shuffle it doesn't speak for your emotions, because all of this is completely fine because I say so and she obviously doesn't care so I don't either.
So there.
