Chapter 89: Side Chick
~Laurance~

Laurance || Lyrvanna|| Jordan

"Hey."

"Moshi Moshi! I'm just calling you back since for some dumb reason, you called me while I was still at school."

"While you still at school? It's six o'clock."

"Maybe there but it's only four here. I just got home since I don't have cheer practice today."

I raise an eyebrow though she can't see me. "You're still a cheerleader?"

"Yes. One of my sisters decided it's her job to make sure I don't quit and my mom wants me to keep doing it so... I guess I'm stuck here." She exhales deeply. "So did you call me for an important reason or can I stop worrying?"

"Aw, Babe. You're worried about me?" Jordan, my roommate, raises an eyebrow before gasping. He nods then leaves.

...Weird.

I keep trying to tell him that—

"Ew, don't call me, Babe. And duh! You left and went somewhere where I can't protect you! You're a weak baby goose and I'm a strong mama jamma." Lyrvanna laughs. Jordon comes back in the room in a wing, dress, and high heels.

Does he just keep those in his suitcase?!

He grabs the phone from me and puts it on speaker. In his girliest voice, he says, "OH HECK NO! WHO THE CRAP IS THIS?! Hello?! Are you trying to get with my man?!" I face palm.

"Uh... what?"

"Are. You. TRYING. To. Get. With. My. Man?!"

"Who's this?"

"Who's this?! Who's this?! OH! SO YOU HAVEN'T TOLD HER ABOUT ME, LAURANCE!?" Jordan clears his throat. "I'm his main boo! You ain't nothing but a side chick."

"Side chick? Uh, look. I don't know who you think you are but I'm definitely no side chick. Laurance and I aren't dating but if we were, I'd be the main boo. I've always been the main boo. So you can go ahead and CHICKen out of this conversation and BOO-hoo over your dumb essay and give Laurance back his phone. Thank you."

"Ooh... dang, Laurance, she's feisty. If you don't date her, I will. She's a senior, right?" Jordan laughs using his normal voice.

"W-W-W-What the c-crap?!"

"That's my roommate, he stole my phone." I sigh and shake my head. "He even put on a wig, dress, and heels for this."

"Hey, uh, Lyrvanna, right?"

"Y-Yeah..."

"Don't lose your confidence now." He laughs. "Why aren't you and Laurance dating by now? He talks about you all the time, even in his sle—"

"Alright. Get out." I point to the door.

"This is my room too."

"I think everything's half off at Evelyn's Costume Bazaar."

"See ya!" He dashes out of the room.

I take the phone off of speaker and put it back to my ear. "Ha! S-So... Jordan's, uh, really something. Haha..." The last thing he said to her hits me like a truck. "He was kidding, you know."

"Oh. Really? Okay. I thought you were obsessed with me for a moment. Can I stop worrying about you now? You seem to be in... good hands?"

"Jordan's insane but mostly harmless."

"So I see..." she laughs. "Now! On to the topic that I have been waiting for, why did you call me, you glum nugget?"

"Because I missed you." I singsonged in a way to let her know I meant it but wouldn't make everything awkward.

"No, you didn't."

"What? Yes, I did."

"No, you didn't."

"Van, I did and do miss you."

"Nah... you have Jordan plus he wears dresses and heels? Your life sounds lit and magnificent!"

"Until he takes my phone and starts shouting at whoever's on the other line."

"A harmless prank." She comments before adding, lowly, "...Mostly."

I choose to ignore it. "I was on the phone with my grandma yesterday and he started yelling at her to give him money and told her that I was being held hostage."

"Wait... which grandma? Is it..."

"Yup, it's the one who's basically a ninja. If I hadn't taken the phone back quickly, Jordan would have ended up missing."

"Okay, so maybe it's a not so harmless prank after all."

"Now you're starting to get it." I laugh. "Do you have rants for me today?"

"Actually... No. I actually don't. Unless talking about I telling you about all of the social anxiety I'm going through counts, let's not forget the numerous times of nearly getting put in detention for 'aggressively shouting' at anyone who flirts with me or my friends that I actually care enough to protect, also, people keep giving my love letters to read, just to make sure they're okay to send, I get, like, 20 in a day, to top it all off... I have to act as cheer captain because Zerenity hasn't been able to come to practice. Isn't my life just full of fun times?"

"If you hate being popular so bad, just do things to damage your reputation." I know she won't do it but I'm out of ideas.

"No way! I don't want to give the people I hang out with a bad name. I never knew that status can have so much of an effect of the people around you but you being popular showed me otherwise."

"To be fair, you gave yourself some popularity on your own. Remember that time when you and Kawaii~Chan tried to start a matchmaking service? You actually set up some people and I haven't heard anything about them breaking up."

"So what? The matchmaking service didn't even last long, Kawaii~Chan and I got into an argument about what ship was better and we disbanded."

"You still helped though. What about your little social experiment? You wanted to see if you could become popular for a day while pretending to be a new student. Once people found out it was you, you became a little more popular."

"People found out it was me?! How?! Who told them?! I was supposed to remain anonymous."

"No clue. I didn't tell a soul. Anyway, people have also seen you perform at the talent shows, in school plays, and at cheerleading events. It was you who got yourself popular, I didn't do a thing."

"Not a thing? Really?"

"Okay, maybe I helped a small, tiny, little bit."

She sighs. "Oh well, I guess I'm just too amazing for this world. I'm going to go Google how to stop being popular."

"Go right ahead, I know part of you is enjoying this though."

"Well, obviously you know nothing then. Talk to you whenever. Peace."

"See ya."
