"Hello?"
"I'm done! That's it! This is the end!"
"Care to elaborate?"
"School is useless, do you think it's too late to drop out?"
"Drop out?! Lyrvanna, what's going on?!"
"The work is too hard, I hate all of my teachers, the lunches are stupid—"
"Haven't the lunches always been stupid?"
"YES! And I'm too broke to leave school to get lunch. That's literally the only good thing about being a senior and I can't even enjoy it! Besides, I don't have a car!"
"Can't you pack a lunch?"
"I live with like 500 people, there's no way I'm going to be allowed to pack my lunch without paying my mom."
"Right, but Van, you have three months of school left then you're out free!"
"Not unless I fail! I have a 43 in two classes and those are just the two I remember."
"You have to study."
"No."
"Van."
"No!"
"Lyrvanna Lanelle Faith!"
"Don't use my middle name like you're my mom!"
"Then listen to me, I'm not letting you drop out and I'm not letting you fail. Go study."
"No, you are not my dad, you don't get to tell me what to do."
"Lyrvanna, I will make sure you pass even if I have to skip school, fly to Phoenix Drop, and force you to study."
"So failing is all I have to do to get you to come back?" I can tell she's smirking.
"It's not going to be in a good way, if I have to come back, I'm going to be pissed. It's going to be all work and no play."
"Laur! Oh my Irene! You are so mean! Why can't I just drop out? Why can't I just be done with this Nether Pit?"
"There are three months left, you got this."
"No, I don't." She sniffles. "It's too hard, I'm going to snap and blow up the school. Oh my Irene, the principal is staring at me... I think she thinks I'm insane."
"You are insane, you would rather blow up the school than study."
"Duh!"
"Van, it isn't that bad to study. Remember that time that I forced you to study? You ended up having fun throughout the week."
"It's called acting, that's the real fun."
"Fine, I have a role for you but you actually have to show results to get the part, no audition required."
"No audition required? That sounds like a scam."
"It's not, I just think you're that good but you don't meet the requirements."
"What are the requirements? What part will I be playing?"
"I have a friend who is actually looking for an actress for a movie he and a couple of other friends are directing and writing, I can ask him to send you the details."
"S-So this is legit?! I can really be an actress?!" The excitement is seeping through her voice.
"Yep. They're actually really struggling to find someone since the acting majors have other projects they're working on."
"This is so cool! Hold on! Wait! You live so far though."
"Shooting doesn't start until this summer and, believe it or not, they're either from Phoenix Drop or pretty close by."
"Really?! So what are my requirements?!"
"IF you get a B or higher in ALL classes, I'll tell them about you but you only have a month to get it up."
"A month?!"
"Yep! Or... do you not want to do this film?"
"I do! I do! More than anything!"
"Then you have a month to get your grades up."
"Okay! I will! So you'll tell them about me?"
"In a month, after you prove yourself."
"But what if they choose someone else before you tell them?"
"They start casting in two months, I think."
"Okay, I'm going to do it! I'm going to get my grades up to a B, maybe even an A! This part is mine!" She squeals. "Oh! Oh crud... The bell just rang, I should get to class. My free period just ended."
"Alright, I'll talk to you later."
"Kay! Bye! Talk to you whenever either of us decide to pick up our phones, use our brain cells, scroll through the apps, click on--"
"Van, you're stalling."
"I know." She sighs. "Bye."
"Bye."
||Call End||
"Hey, who was that? Your girlfriend you're always talking about?" My dorm mate, Jordan, the writer of the film I was telling Lyrvanna about, asked flopping onto his bed.
"Yeah-- No! No, not girlfriend but girl... friend." I clarify for the millionth time.
"Friendzoned, huh? Yeah, I've been there before. I'll just tell you now, it never gets any easier."
"Maybe for you."
"Ouch, that was a direct hit at my heart and I'm shattered because of you. Anyway, I think I'm gonna hit the hay." He yawns.
"It's ten fifty in the morning, we have class in thirty minutes." I remind him.
He groans and sits up. "I hate college."
"You'll get through it." I pull him up and begin pushing him out the door.
