Chapter 59: Forgetful
~Dove~

"Dove! Dove! Oh my Irene! Dove!" Someone shouts. I look around to see Zerenity sitting on the ground waving me over from the other side of the street. I was on my way back home from the store but judging by how frantic she is to get me to come to her, I don't think I'm going home any time soon.

I walk over to her after looking both ways on the street. "Yeah, hey, what's up?"

"I feel like I'm forgetting something, what am I forgetting? Help me! Help me, please!" She crawls up to me and pulls the bottom of my shirt.

"Zerenity! Calm down!"

"I don't know what I'm forgetting, Dovey~Chan! My mind! It's breaking, I'm going insane! I don't know what I forgot!" She clutches my shirt tighter. "What do I do? I can feel everything seeping out of my brain!"

"First, let go of me, get up, and take a deep breath." Slowly, she lets me go as she stands up.

She begins to slowly inhale before exhaling fast and creating a very bad pattern from there. "It's not working! It isn't working! You told me to take a deep breath!"

"You need to slow down."

"What am I forgetting, Dovey~Chan?!"

"I don't know! You called me over here!"

"Dovey~Chan, is this what it feels like to die?"

"You forget things all the time, if it was, you would have been dead long ago."

"But it's on the tip of my tongue! It's like it's there! It's been there all day but it just won't come to the surface!"

"What did you do today?"

"What?"

"Maybe if you retrace everything, you'll be able to figure it out," I suggest.

"Okay! Um... so I woke up, did my morning routine, went to school, um, then I... went to my classes, then I began walking home and I decided to just sit here."

"A little more in depth, please? Like, what happened in your classes."

"Okay... in homeroom, nothing much happened. We all just talked. Then I went to Chemistry and my teacher was teaching and all of that but OH! OH! OH! Dove! I figured it out! I have a test tomorrow! OH MY IRENE, I HAVE A TEST TOMORROW! I didn't study!"

"Do you even need to--"

"OF COURSE! How could I forget?! Dovey~Chan, you have to help me!"

"Help you study?"

"Yes! Come on! I'll call an Uber, we have to get to the library NOW!" She pulls out her phone.

"An Uber?"

"Yeah, it'll be fine."

And that was how we ended up getting kidnapped.

I'm joking, we made it to the library safely, but Zerenity is still losing her mind.

"Oh my Irene!" She whispers. "What do I study? I don't remember what it's about!"

"Chemistry stuff." I shrug.

"I know but which unit?" She sighs.

"Isn't it the latest one?"

"Right!" She nods before sighing and laying her head on the table. "Why did this unit have to be so super long?"

"Hey, it'll be fine." I nod. "Did your teacher give you a study guide?"

"Um. Maybe."

"How do you not remember anything?!" I groan.

Zerenity shushes me. "Dovey~Chan, we're in a library." I wasn't even loud...

"Woah, really? I couldn't tell." I roll my eyes. "Check you bag for one."

"For what?"

"A study guide!" This time multiple people shush me. I shush them back but I do admit that I did get loud this time.

"Oh! Kay!" She begins digging in her bag for a study guide. Soon she pulls out a sheet of paper. "Found it. Wait... It's already filled out but it's for this unit."

"So you mean to tell me, you've finished the study guide already?" I raise an eyebrow and she nods. "Do you remember everything on there?"

She skims over the paper. "Yep. This unit was super easy."

"So you forced me to come here for nothing?"

"I didn't necessarily force you." She shrugs and stands up. "I can restudy this at home. Do you want to go to Starbucks with me?"

"Not r--"

"Please?" She begs. "Pretty pretty please?"

"Alright! Okay." I sigh before she hugs me.

"Yay! Let's go! I'm paying." She grabs my hand and drags me out the door.

"Dovey~Chan, I feel like I'm forgetting something and I don't know what." Zerenity sighs as she sips her Chai Tea Latte.

I squeeze my eyes shut lowkey annoyed and set my coffee down. I sigh. "Are you forgetting about your chemistry test?"

"Oh! Right! Thanks!" She laughs.

"Why are you forgetting stuff?"

"Idk--" I cut her off.

"Did you just say idk in real life?"

"You did too just now."

"Only because I was saying what you said."

"You shouldn't copy people, it's not very nice."

"I'll show you not very nice--"

"No! I'm sorry!" She whines. "But, um, I think I'm forgetting things today because I was up all night for many reasons."

"Those reasons are..."

"Shipping, shipping, shipping, more shipping, and, um, trying to find out the secret of time travel." She shrugs and eats her cookie.

"The secrets of time travel?" I squint my eyes at her.

"Yeah, I went to a fortune teller and she told me I'm going to be in great danger in the future, so I want to time travel to help myself out."

"Fortune tellers are fake, what would you do to get in danger?" I laugh.

"Oh, right! I don't do anything insane. Guess I spent 500 dollars for nothing." She groans.

"You paid her 500 dollars?!" I exclaim with my eyes wide.

"She said she's the real deal. She even gave me names to look out for like... Will, Christina, Lillian, and the most important guy/ the leader of them all--"

I wave hand dismissively. "Do you really believe that? She made those up on the spot. And leader of them all? What, are you going to run into a gang?"

"She could have made them up but she also gave me a year, 2029."

"She also made that up. Why didn't she give you an exact date?"

"True. Okay, I guess you're right. That fortune teller was a big fat liar face." Zerenity huffs.

"Woah, that was a really mean insult, Zerenity, you must be really upset." I shake my head.

"Oof! Sorry!" She covers her mouth. I just shake my head again.
