Chapter 54: We Aren't Going To Make The Team, Are We?
~Zerenity~

"Now that you've joined swimming, I won't have much to do. It's like we're always together and I'm lost without you." I playfully pout as Travis gets his things from his locker.

"Same here," he looks to me and smiles, "but you could always join something then we'll be away from each other together."

"True, you're right." I nod. "What should I join though? That's the question."

"Art club?"

"I kind of like drawing on my own by myself," I mumble.

"Then what about... a dance group?" My eyes widen as I smile before attempting to dance not even two seconds later I start to fall and land on my butt. He shakes his head, "So... dance is out of the question."

"Hey! That's mean!"

"Hey! It's true!" He reaches his arm out to me. I take his hand and he helps me up.

"Not nice! Not nice at all!" I shake my head, "so, when's the first swim meet? I want to come and watch you swim."

"There's a contest next Saturday," he says simply as we start our journey to class.

"Really! Yay!" I clap before whooping, "Go, Travis!"

"I could see you as a cheerleader."

I gasp, "Me too! I've actually always wanted to be a cheerleader anyway!"

"Then... why didn't you mention that at the beginning?"

"Because I forgot."

"How could you forget? I thought you always wanted to." He teases.

"Fine, I almost always wanted to."

"Almost always?"

"I know, almost is never enough, but sometimes I have other things on my mind." Without even thinking of anything in particular, I take one look at Travis causing my cheeks to feel hot. Not even I can explain it, it randomly happened.

Maybe it just got hot in here.

"Things like?" He stops walking and turns to face me.

"Like... um, trying not to lose contact with Gene and the Shadow Knights, I'm still friends with them though I'm not really in their... 'group'." I honestly replied.

"Oh." He shrugs. "Makes sense."

"Yep! Anyway! I'll see when they're holding tryouts and hopefully, I'll make the squad."

"Well would you look at that, it seems our problem has been solved," Travis says with a country accent.

"Yes, sirree!" I nod before we reach our class.

Is this a coincidence or what?

Cheerleading tryouts are after school today. Am I ready? I don't think I'm ready.

"Hey, Zerenity!" Lyrvanna bounces over to me.

"Lyrvanna? Are you trying out for cheerleading?" I wonder.

"You know it! As soon as I told my mom I should stop being lazy, she told me— no, forced me— to sign up for something so I can try to get a scholarship one day." She explains as she ties her shoe. "What about you? Are you trying out or are you just going to stand in front of the door?"

"I want to try out but I may end up just staying out here." I sit down as I sigh.

"Oh no no no!" She grabs my hand, "You are going to get your scared butt off that bench and you're going to march in that gym and own it! All of us in the gym are terrified 'cause who knows which part we're going to get? This is a full squad tryout, all positions are up for grabs, that's why you gotta grab the best one. Now come on." She drags me into the gym and in a spot on the bleachers next to her.
