"Hi, welcome everyone," A girl with short dark brown hair stands in front of the bleachers, "my name is Jessica, you can call me Jess, and I'm one of the judges today. Today is a full squad tryout meaning all positions are up for grabs." Lyrvanna looks at as if saying, 'I told you so'. "We're only taking 20 people, however, so we'd be able to compete in competitions."

There's even more pressure now.

"But," Jess continues, "we do have a JV squad as well which is taking 45."

Hello JV squad. If I can even make that.

"No sweat, you're sure-fire for Varsity. You're small; perfect for being a flier, and no one has more school spirit than you. Except for when Dove was extremely peppy then no one could close to catching that hype." She laughs but stops abruptly, "Dang it, I'm bad at cheering people up."

"Actually that helped, thanks." I smile.

"Alright, everyone come get a number off of the table. It's all mixed so there's no telling which number you'll get. Afterward, arrange yourselves in order on the gym floor." Jess walks back over to the other judges.

Lyrvanna and I slowly make our way to the table. Once my turn comes, I see I pulled a 10. There's tape here to put the number on ourselves.

Lyrvanna shuffles the papers, even more, to just mess around before pulling one out. "I got 11, what about you?"

"10."

"Looks like we're 'standing next to each other' buddies!"

"Yay!" We make our way to the gym floor before we get there Lyrvanna stops in her tracks.

"What was I thinking?! I can't do this! I'm too clumsy, what if I fall? What if I forgot how to talk or even worse, I forget how to shout?! W-What if—" Lyrvanna panics.

I put a hand on her shoulder, "You are going to march onto that gym floor and own it." I repeat her words back to her. "All the best spots are free and it's time for us to fill them, okay?"

She takes a deep breath and nods, "Y-Yeah, okay." We continue to find the spot where our numbers go.

After the judges teach us the chant and dance, were broken up into groups of 4. Luckily, Lyrvanna was in my group so I at least had someone I recognized in my group.

We were told to practice the chant before we had to do it in front of them. Lyrvanna came up with a bunch of ideas that involved me leading since I can't really say no, I ask Lyrvanna to do a couple. I asked the other two if they wanted to lead a couple but they just shook their hands.

And now it was time.

After we introduced ourselves to the judges we started. I was chosen by the group to start us off.

"Ready?" I call out as all our hands are down to our sides.

"Okay!" We shout before we clap.

I start us off again, this is so embarrassing, Lyrvanna's the one who suggested I do it. She knows I have a hard time refusing people. "I said, 'brr'!" We all stomp twice then clap.

"It's cold in here!" We all shout continuing the stomp and clap pattern. "There must be some Phoenixes in the atmosphere! I said, 'brr'!" Stomp, stomp, clap. "It's cold in here! There must be some Phoenixes in the atmosphere!"

This time just I shout, "I said, 'Oh-ee-oh-ee-oh!"

"Ice! Ice! Ice!" The other three shout.

"Slow it down!" Lyrvanna shouts since I said she has to lead this part. Slowly, she shouts, "Oh-ee-oh-ee-oh!"
