Samuel's eyes widen, slightly. "Your ex-boyfriend showed up at your door on Saturday." He repeats.

I nod. "Yes." I lean back into the red chair.

He runs his left hand through his thick brown hair. "Well, how did that go?"

"I don't know." I tell him, honestly.

"What did he say?" Samuel asks, while adjusting himself to a sitting position on the side of the bed where he can face me.

"He, basically, came to apologize and...." I trail off thinking about what went down on Saturday. Nathan wants to be with me again. Why do I feel so weird telling Samuel this?

"And what?" Samuel prompts me.

"He wants to get back together." I gulp.

I avoid Samuel's gaze and focus on the laces of my black Nike shoes that I am wearing.

"What did you say to him?" Samuel  asks, in a voice that is barely above a whisper.

"I told him that we could be friends....and I told him he could text me...." I'm still looking at the laces on my shoes. I can feel Samuel's eyes boring holes into my face.

"Did he text you?" He asks. His voice is still barely above a whisper.

I nod my head yes in response.

"Did you text him back?" He asks.

I sigh. "Yes, I did."

"Look at me, Karrington." Samuel demands, his voice sounding slightly irritated.

I look up and meet his gorgeous brown eyes. His eyes are holding so many different emotions that I can't figure out.

"What's the story with you and him?" He asks. His eyes are taking in every single expression on my face.

"We started dating when I was sixteen. " I take a deep breath. "He was eighteen. Everything was great at first, but then he started getting drunk all the time...."

"Did he ever hit you?" Samuel asks.

I look away from him.

"Don't look away from me, Karrington." Samuel demands.

I look back at him feeling slightly defeated.

"Only a couple of times, but I broke up with him after a year of us being together..." I admit to him.

"And now you are texting him?" Samuel asks, with accusation in his tone.

"He seems like he is doing a lot better...." I defend Nate, half-heartedly.

Samuel's jaw tenses and he shakes his head.
"Leave." He commands.

My hearts sinks. Samuel just asked me to leave.

"What?" I ask, hoping that I didn't hear him correctly.

"You heard me, Karrington."

"But, Samuel...." I shift in the red chair, but I don't make a move to get up.

"LEAVE!!!" He yells. He closes his eyes.

My hands start shaking and my heart is hammering against my chest. I, quickly, get up from the red chair and jog out of his bedroom. I close the door behind me. We don't speak for the rest of the day. When I bring him his food and medicine he doesn't even look at me. At the end of the day, Mrs. Richardson comes home and gives me a big smile and asks how my day was. I lie to her and tell her that it was great.

When I get to my car I look down at my phone and I see that I have a text message.

Nate: How was your day, sweetheart?
