Three hours of long flight later, Carmen found herself standing in front of a beach house. It was a modern construction, one that she didn't know about. Then again, Carmen hardly tried to be curious about such things. How rich Logans were or how many properties they owned around the world, had never been the question that ever took priority in her head. She was happy with not knowing, content with whatever she had.

Carmen pulled the sweater closer to herself, as she watched the night sky and the stars twinkling beyond. Grandpa stood next to her, his both hands resting on the head of his cane.

"Well, here we are," he said a little dramatically, as if he was presenting her with the best part of the entire plan that he had concocted since the day he showed up at her dad's cafe, as if this was the end of the road, the kind of end that had the power to change her life forever.

If Carmen were to be honest, now that she was standing there, she couldn't help but feel a bit scared. A surge of anxiety seemed to grip her heart, and doubts began to swirl in her mind. What if Grandpa was right? What if she got all the answers to her questions and had no reason to back away? What if "this" convinced her to do his bidding? What if "this" brought her back to face-to-face with Ronin and his aversion? Would she be able to handle that? Did she even want to handle that?

The bubble of Carmen's thoughts busted when someone cleared their throat.

"Come on, I think it's time you see this." With those words coming from his mouth, he gave her one last long glance before moving his feet and heading inside.

Instead of following him right away, Carmen took a moment to think it over. Not that there was much left to think about. She was already here, might as well see what was his purpose of bringing her here in so much haste.

After a little more contemplation, she inhaled a deep breath, rolled her shoulders and followed him inside.

The interior of the house was just as meticulous as any of Logan's residences. It was well kept, not a single thing out of place. Other than white walls and random pictures hung on them, large see-through windows occupied the entire place, looking over the vast beach and the ocean beyond. Carmen could even hear the waves rolling up and down the shoreline, the sound of the crickets trickling into her ears.

The first room they entered was the living space. It was bright with all the lights turned on. A woman in her late thirties stood near the stairs, exuding an air of quiet confidence. It was clear from the way Grandpa conversed with her that they were well acquainted. She didn't appear to be a maid, dressed in casual attire, but there was something about her cool eyes and poised demeanor that piqued Carmen's curiosity.

Once again, questions started to bubble up inside her, but Carmen knew better than to ask them now. Back in the car, he had told her that she was going to get all her answers, now all she had to do was have a little more patience.

"Grace, this is Carmen," Grandpa introduced with a small smile, turning to gesture towards her. "And Carmen, this is Dr. Grace Mitchell. I'll tell you more about her in a minute." He then directed his attention back to the doctor. "I'm sorry we're here on such short notice. How is she doing?"

Dr. Mitchell smiled warmly, her gaze directed to Carmen for a brief moment, "Nice to finally meet you, Ms Price, have heard so much about you," before it moved back to him. "She is fine, Mr. Logan. I believe you are here to see her?"

"Of course," he replied instantly, glancing up towards the upper floor. "If it were up to me, I would never leave her alone."

"She is not alone, Mr Logan. I always make sure of that."
