(Aye. There'll be spoilers ahead Lass/Lad, I do not recommend reading farther if you don't want none and intend on reading it. Continue if you wish. )

Phew okay UHM. I legit do not understand all of the comments on this book saying how 'it's amazing!' And 'book of the year!' And 'if you only read one book it should be this!' Well yeah, because if you haven't read any other books and didn't know vein and dull characters from good fleshed out ones, then you wouldn't even tell how this one was hard to read

Seriously. I have my beef with this book So. Rick Yancey. He could've done better. Much better.

Let's start with Cassie. The main character who's name is short for 'Cassiopeia' instead of 'Cassandra'. Yeah the name gives you red flags already. SPECIAL SNOWFLAKE ON THE WAY.

I hate her character, and could barely stand her narratives for too long. I just got so sick of her. She was shallow, explosive, incredibly mood-swingy, rude, and overall i don't know how she didn't die. There was no true depth to her, I thought.

And then that Evan Walker. The dumb Kent Clark perfect pretty boy who knows how to cook and JUST SO HAPPENS to also be an alien and they fall for each other. Seriously I'm like 200% done with romance after this book. Unless it's fluffy FANFICTION DONE RIGHT. Then I'm all over dat shiiiiizzzzz.

But yeah an exasperating, frustrating, boring, drawn out, romance. Great. Just what I needed. Legit at least a hundred pages was Cassie and Evan at the farm house LITERALLY DOING NOTHING WHATSOEVER. NOT EVEN IMPORTANT TO THE PLOT LINE. JUST. KISSING. AND BRUSHING HAIR. AND SITTING BY FIRE. AND EATING. THATS IT. WHY. WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY-

*several minutes later*

Okay I'm back. Had to take a breather because this is frustrating me. Anyway.

Now, you discover from a new point of view, her high school crush Ben Perish or whatever is still alive and infact turned all army guy badass over here! Yay •-•

Everyones triangle senses tingling yet? They are? Good. Cause you can't find a book without a triangle.

So basically he's at this army camp and is crushing on this girl Ringer (which I'm guessing she dies at some point in a later book) and they sorta get all close and crap

And Cassie's naive little brother Sams is taken. By then blah blah blah

He serves as a weak motivation I get to the army base and save him and yeah I couldn't care less if they died

They turned Ben (nickname Zombie which I think suits him better. Ben just doesn't fit the personality. I would've gone Matthew instead of Ben. Or something like that) into a actually bearable character that i enjoyed the POV's from UNTIL IT LOOPED BACK TO MISS DRAMA QUEEN

And so in the end all crap happens they get away base explodes Evan is not suspected dead (but I'd guess he will come back mid way book 2 or the end, not sure) and she escapes with Zombie/Ben/Matthew and his gang of misfit children and he kisses her for some reason because that's customary if you save someone's life and have known them for EXACTLY one or two hours you kiss them for the books ending

This book isn't half as good as I would've expected like seriously

It started off great! Full of action suspense and crap and then just dwindled away into a book I had to finish because I can't leave a book halfway through, there's always that sense of dedication no matter how awful

I admit I was tempted to just stop reading so many times but I wanted to read someone dying which sucks because that didn't even happen

Ugh

Anyone else read it and wanna add to the pain?
