Chapter 48

Jishin suddenly asked her, "You let him go like that?". "Why? Wasn't it enough? Besides, he's just a pawn". Yujun intervened, "Come on, I'll take you back to the hospital". Joanne immediately backed away, "No way! I'm not going back there! Never! I wanna go home!", she whined. He thought for a while and agreed with her at last. On the way, she asked him softly, "Uhmm... Can we pick up my stuff from the hospital on our way home?". "Alright".

Next day.
All of them were having breakfast at the table, when Joanne's phone rang. It showed a restricted number on the screen. After a while, she picked up the call and put it on her ear. She was shocked to hear a familiar voice from the other side. That voice said, "Good morning, my dear disciple!". Her jaw dropped, and a terrified look formed all over her face. Others at the table noticed it but didn't interrupt her.  That voice continued, "What happened? Aren't you going to talk to me after all this time?". Clearing her throat, she replied in a shaky voice, "Good morning, Master". "How are you feeling now?". "Good". "I've received your message ". Hearing that, a hint of rage appeared in her eyes, "Y-you?!....But why?". "Have you forgotten about our Deserter Disposal System?". Her eyebrows grew slightly apart at that. He continued, "There's a doctor in your harem , right?". She was irritated and somewhat shouted, "Hare-", but stopped realising her surroundings and lowered her voice, "Yes". "Pass the phone to him ". She lowered the phone from her ear and called out to Yujun, "He wants to talk to you". Yujun was hesitant at first but took the phone and replied, "Yes?". That voice, "Good morning Doctor! How long does she need to fully recover?". Yujun seemed annoyed, "Who are you?". "You can ask her yourself. Now, answer my question". "A month, at the most". "Thanks! I'll keep track of her progress from you from now on. Now please return the cell to her". He returned it to her. She said on the phone, "Yes Master?". "You still have your last exam due". Her face was filled with concern and sadness, "What's the use now? I'm a deserter now!". "That's all the more reason! Prepare yourself well. (his tone suddenly turned cold) I don't want to fight any weakling!" and hung up. She gulped and put down her phone slowly. Jishin asked her, "Who was that?". She was in a daze and didn't answer him. He kept asking, "What's the matter ? Why are you so quiet all of a sudden?". She suddenly yelled at him, "IT WAS HIM!", startling everyone. She was clearly dejected, "It was my master, my mentor...who was behind this". Seoyun, "What! But why?". She turned towards him, "Because I abandoned them and.....killed some of their officials". Everyone's jaw dropped at her. Jishin couldn't believe his ears, "You did what?". She looked down and mumbled, "I couldn't control myself". Seoyun commented without thinking, "Maybe you really are a killing machine!". Jishin shouted at him in a dominating voice, "Seoyun!". She apologized and left, and went straight to her room and locked herself in. Jishin was enraged at Seoyun's behaviour, "Are you insane? Why would you even say that?" and left the table to go find her. Seoyun, upon realising his fault, left too. On the other hand, Jishin banged on Joanne's door, "Joanne! Hey? I'm really sorry for what he said!". She replied with a broken voice, "Don't be! He said the truth after all!". "No it's not!". "You don't even know it yourself! So stop consoling me". He was speechless and stood there silently.
