xlvii. WEREWOLVES COMMON ENEMY

Derek Hale |

DEREK TRIED FOCUSING ON THE BOOK IN FRONT OF HIM TO POTENTIALLY GIVE HIM ANSWERS TO HELP SHAWN. though he couldn't help but continue to glance over at azalea who was also helping him research. though the only leads they have were the symbol azalea matched together a few nights ago. they've gone through numerous of books, hoping to find anything that could lead them to anything. they were reaching nothing but dead ends and it was driving derek insane.

"there's nothing in any of the books we've gone through that tells us anything." she groaned, slamming another book down on the ground and leaning back against the couch. "any luck in your book?"

he shook his head, "absolutely nothing."

"i think i've had enough research for today. i'm gonna make something to eat, are you hungry?" she asked, standing up and pulling her shirt down to cover the skin of her stomach and back.

"no, i'm okay. i think i'm going to stay up here for a little while longer." he told her, giving her a reassuring smile. "i'll be down soon."

"okay." she replied in a soft tone, giving him a lingering gaze before leaving the library and disappearing downstairs.

derek sighed, leaning his head back against the couch and turning to look out the window. he watched as a few young kids ran around their yard freely, wide innocent smiles on their faces as they chased each other around. he smiled as the kids all tackled each other.

he couldn't help but begin to envision his and azalea's future together. so badly did he just want to runaway with her and just have a peaceful future with her. where all he would do is take care of her, love her unconditionally, and begin a family with her. he didn't want to be stuck in the position he was in now. he didn't want to constantly live with this strong fear he would lose her. he didn't want to deal with more threats and potentially another war. none of this was fair to him.

in times like this, he wished his mom were still here with him. he wished he could just ask her what to do, knowing she always did the right thing, always knew the right thing to say. he would do anything to just have the comfort of being with his mom again. he needed her to push him in the right direction whenever he was stuck. and so badly, did he want to be able to have his mate meet his mom. there was nothing he wanted more.

he growled lowly, slamming his book shut and standing from his position. he stormed out of the library, making his way down the stairs. he paused when he saw azalea in the kitchen. for a few moments he watched her, feeling himself relax and calm from the intrusive feelings that occurred not too long again.
