Narrator POV:

John smiled as his girlfriend wrote vigorously on a napkin at their favorite cafe. He chuckled a bit as she chewed on the end of her pen as she thought. "Need some help?" He asked. Peggy looked up and nodded.

"I can't figure out what I should write for Maria's birthday song." She sighed and handed John the napkin with ideas. He nodded a bit and got up from the table. Both on them were musicians, so it wasn't a surprise when either of them had an idea for a song.

Peggy looked at John, a bit confused. "Where are we going?" She asked and followed him to their car. John didn't say a word and just drove home. He feared if he talked, he would lose his brilliant idea.

As soon as they stepped inside their apartment, John grabbed paper and started scribbling down notes and lyrics. It took 10 minutes before he was done. Usually, something like this happens once in a musician's life. But John has been able to do it for years. He could write a full song in a matter of minutes if he had the write idea.

"Sing this." He told Peggy and grabbed his guitar. Peggy took the paper and read it over carefully. Luckily, she was blessed with the ability to sight read. John started playing and Peggy started to sing.

"Girl on mission
Just tryna turn some heads
She needs attention
Look at that look at me dress
Her kinda trouble should come
With a warning sign (don't let her fool you, don't be a fool)

She act like she don't notice
That left hand band of gold
Got that money motive
Will wreck a happy home
Yeah, there's a snake takin' names
In the bar tonight (don't let her fool you, don't be a fool)

Yeah, she'll break your heart
Like it doesn't matter
Yeah, she'll play the part
Just to climb the ladder
She's got you blind but I see it all
You think you're getting sugar
But boy, you're getting salt

She'll let you kiss her
But it comes with a price
That sweet gets bitter
Then she's cold as ice
Her kinda trouble should
Come with a warning sign (a warning sign)

Yeah, she'll break your heart
Like it doesn't matter
Yeah, she'll play the part
Just to climb the ladder
She's got you blind but I see it all
You think you're getting sugar
But boy, you're getting salt

Yeah, she's (fake, fake, fake) as the extensions that she's wearing
(Stay, stay, stay) far away 'cause she don't care and
She'll tie you down then cut you loose
Pours all the sugar, then salt in your wounds

Yeah, she'll break your heart
Like it doesn't matter
Yeah, she'll play the part
Just to climb the ladder
She's got you blind but I see it all
You think you're getting sugar
But boy, you're getting salt

Ooh, oh
Babe, it's not the sugar, no, no"

John smiled. "And you have your song." He told Peggy, who was smiling at her brilliant boyfriend. She loved the song but wasn't 100% sure it was appropriate for Maria's birthday.

"How did you come up with those lyrics so quickly?" Peggy questioned and hugged John, looking up at him with one eyebrow raised. John chuckled.

"I based it on you since you and Maria are carbon copies of each other." He joked.

"So you think I'm salty?" Peggy asked and gave him a fake pout, only making him laugh more. Which made her laugh too.

"No of course not! I had to change a few things but I think she'll really like it!" He answered and kept a hold of his girlfriend.

"Thank you. I love you." Peggy smiled, standing on her tippy toes and stretching her neck, just trying to reach her giraffe of a boyfriend. John laughed and bent down to kiss her.

"Anytime, Peggles." He smiled.
