It's been a couple days since we found out I was pregnant. It's been a little bit of a whirlwind since we found out. It was way more difficult than I was expecting not telling anyone since we were so excited.
Today was our first doctor's appointment which was both exciting and terrifying.
"Ready to go?" Colby asked as I pulled my sweater over my head. "Yep! Ready!" I said as he nodded. "Perfect, did you want to go grocery shopping after?" Colby asked as I nodded.
"Yeah, I have to get some stuff for tomorrow. Everyone is coming over for Thanksgiving right?" I asked as he nodded. "Yep." He said as we turned to leave the room.
"I can't wait to cook for everyone." I said as we made our way out to the car. "I can't wait for you to cook for everyone, too. You're so good at cooking." Colby said as I smiled. "Yeah, I'm pretty good at it." I said then got in the car.
"This kid is lucky that you're it's mom because it's gonna be eating gooood." He said and got in the drivers side. "Yeah, I'm gonna make some gourmet baby food." I said with a laugh and took his hand as he drove to the gynocologist's office.
When we got there I could feel the excitement bubbling in my chest. This was really happening, we were really having a baby.
"Hey, how can I help you?" The lady behind the desk asked as Colby and I walked up. "I'm here for an appointment." I said as she nodded. "Your name?" She asked as Colby took my hand. "Violet Brock." I said then winked at Colby.
"First visit?" She asked as I nodded. "Okay, I'm gonna have you do some paperwork for you, then Dr. Port will be with you soon." She explained and handed me a clipboard. "Thank you." I said then took the clipboard and turned to sit down.
It took a couple minutes to do the paperwork but when I was finished Colby brought it back up to the desk. "Are you excited to see the little bean for the first time?" I asked as he nodded. "Yeah, I'm so excited." He said then kissed my head as a nurse came out.
"Violet?" She asked as Colby and I stood up. "How are you doing?" The nurse asked as she led us back to the room. "Good, how are you?" I asked as she led me towards the scale. "Great! I'm just gonna get your height and weight." She said as I nodded and stepped on the scale. "Don't look." I said to Colby as he breathed a laugh. "Okay." He said then turned away.
We got my height and weight then we were brought back to one of the rooms. "Okay, I'm gonna get your vitals then I'll send in the doctor." The nurse said with a smile as she put the blood pressure cuff on my arm. I nodded then let her get to work.
She took all of my vitals then asked a couple questions before leaving. "That wasn't too painful." I said as Colby laughed. "Just wait until the coochie doctor comes in." He said as I rolled my eyes. "Do not call her the coochie doctor." I said with a laugh as the door opened.
"Hi, Violet!" Dr. Port said as she walked into the room. "Hi." I said with a smile. "How are you feeling?" She asked and sat down. "Excited." I said then smiled at Colby. "Well that's a good way to be feeling right now. How about you, dad? You excited?" She asked and looked at Colby.
"Ecstatic." He said with a smile. "Perfect! Let's get started." She said then smiled at me. "First of all, you can call me Amy." She said then grabbed her clipboard. "Now that we are on a first name basis, we can start with the juicy stuff." She said with a smile.
"Today we are going to do a couple tests to make sure we have the smoothest pregnancy possible." She explained then wrote something down. "I'm going to put you on some prenatal pills, and I'm going to give you a guide of things you can't eat." She said and handed me a little packet of papers.
"Any questions so far?" She asked as I shook my head. "Good. Let's do some tests, then we can look at your baby." Amy said as she stood up.
We ended up doing a blood test, a urine test, and a Pap smear so that we could have as much information as possible. Once we were all done with the tests, she pulled out the ultrasound machine.
"Okay, let's do this." She said then pulled my shirt up and squirted the gel onto my stomach. I expected it to be cold like I've always heard but it was actually pretty warm.
I reached over and took Colby's hand as she ran the wand over my lower stomach. We both watched the screen carefully as she searched for the baby.
"There's your baby." She said with a smile and pointed to the little blob on the screen. "Wow.." I whispered as I looked up at Colby. He was smiling as his eyes darted around the screen.
I felt my heart leap out of my chest from the amount of love that was on his face. I smiled at him for a second before turning back to the screen.
"Everything is looking good so far...I'd say you're about 6 weeks along. When was your missed period?" Amy asked as she looked at the ultrasound. "2 weeks ago." I said as she nodded. "Yeah, I'd say 6 weeks, only 34 more weeks to go." She said with a grin as I nodded.
"Half way through the first trimester." I said with a smile as she cleaned my stomach up. "Exactly. We're gonna set up another appointment for a month from now. When we get closer to the due date..which will be...July 23rd..we will schedule appointments to be weekly or biweekly." Amy explained as I nodded.
"Sounds good." I said then pulled my shirt down and started sitting up. "If you have any problems don't hesitate to give me a call." She said with a smile and stood up. "Thank you so much." I said as Colby and I got up.
"Any questions?" She asked as she led the way out of the room. "Nope, We'll see you in a month." I said with a smile as Colby took my hand. "See ya then!" She said then led us to the lobby again.
"That was educational." Colby said as we walked to the car. "Yeah, I can't believe how intense this is already." I said with a small laugh. "Same, I thought it was gonna be smooth sailing until the end." He said as I shook my head. "We're in for a long haul I think." I said then looked down at the ultrasound that Amy had given me.
"I know it doesn't look like anything yet, but it's so damn cute." I said as we got in the car. "I know..I can't wait to meet the little peanut." He said as I grinned. "Peanut?" I asked as he shrugged.
"I gotta think of a cute nickname." He said as I breathed a laugh. "You could call it, bunny." I said as he shook his head. "No, that's your dad's thing...do you know why he called you that?" He asked as I smiled fondly.
"Yeah. Bunny was my first word. Apparently we went to the pet store one day and I just pointed to the bunny and said it like it was nothing. My dad thought it was cute so he called me that for the rest of my life." I explained as he smiled. "That's really cute." He said as I nodded.
"Yeah, so maybe you can call the baby dust mite, since that's what we called it the other day." I said as he shook his head. "I'll think of something." He said then pulled into the parking lot of the grocery store.
We went inside and grocery shopped since we were celebrating Thanksgiving tomorrow. I was so excited to spend out first holiday as a married couple with our friends. It sucked that we couldn't tell them about the baby but I was excited for the day that we could announce it to them.
I knew they would all be so excited.
We were halfway through shopping before the exhaustion hit me. "You tired?" Colby asked as I nodded and yawned. "Nap time is soon." I said with a laugh and grabbed a can of cranberry. "If you want to go home and write me a list I can come back out while you're sleeping." He said as I shook my head.
"No, it's okay. We're almost done." I said then led the way to get some bread for the stuffing. We quickly grabbed everything I would need for tomorrow then went to check out. By the time we got to the car though I was basically falling asleep.
"Goodnight, Vi." Colby said with a laugh as I drifted off to sleep. "G'night." I mumbled then fell asleep, leaning against the window. I thought it was funny how quickly I was able to dose off but I guess this was just the new norm.
Pregnancy was going to be a crazy experience, I could already tell.
