The next few days were a little rough. While I was at work every day, Colby was working on getting my phone number changed. Usually it wouldn't be that hard of a process but we had to go through and give my new number to anyone that would need it for the wedding.
I was struggling a little bit with the paranoia again but was working through it little by little. We had contacted the prison to tell them not to allow him to request me as a visitor which made it a little bit easier to handle.
I couldn't shake the words he said to me though, and the way he perfected Colby's voice.
It only made the nightmares worse.
I would have nightmares every night now about having to marry Peter again. It annoyed me because I just wanted to get over it. What happened to me was years ago, I just wanted to put it behind me and never look back.
Everyone at work was really good about how I was acting since I was sleep deprived and a little on edge, which I was grateful for.
"You going home?" Aisha asked as I changed my shoes. "Mhmm." I said and threw my work shoes into my locker. "What's on the schedule this weekend? Are you doing anything fun?" She asked as I shook my head.
"No idea." I said then sighed. "I'll see you on Monday." I said then grabbed my keys. "Love you, V." Aisha said as I nodded. "Love you, too." I said then made my way out of the room and towards the parking lot.
I kept my hand gripped tightly around my keys in case someone would try to attack me and I never let my guard down until I was safety locked in my car.
As soon as I was locked in I let out a small breath then turned my car on and started to drive home.
When I got home I went inside and went up the bed room. I took my uniform off and crawled into bed in just my bra and panties, being too tired to even get changed.
"V?" Colby asked as he came into the room. "Hmm." I mumbled and pulled the covers over my head. "How was work?" He asked and walked over to the bed. "Fine." I said as he sat down. "Are you sure?" He asked as I groaned and pulled the covers down so I could look at him.
"I'm just fucking exhausted and my brain won't shut the fuck up." I said as he sighed. "Why don't you try taking a nap?" He asked and brushed my hair from my face.
"Because there's no point. I'll wake up in an hour screaming because some psychopath is obsessed with me and won't leave me alone." I said and huffed out a breath.
"I think I know what will help." Colby said as I frowned. "Killing him?" I asked as he laughed. "No. We aren't killing anyone." He said then stood up and pulled the covers back.
"I don't want to do anything." I mumbled as he took my hands, pulling me up. "I know you don't but I'm not gonna let you torture yourself like this anymore. Come on." He said and pulled me more so I was fully sitting.
"Fine." I said then stood up. "I'm up. What now?" I asked with a yawn. "As much as I love you being half naked I think you should put some clothes on." He said with a laugh.
I nodded then walked over to the closet. I picked up a pair of joggers and one of Colby's tshirts and put them on.
"Now what?" I asked and rubbed my eye sleepily. "Put these on." Colby said and handed me a pair of sneakers. "K." I said then put them on.
Once they were on Colby took my hand and started walking out of the room and towards the stairs. I wanted to argue and tell him that I was too tired to do anything but he was so excited that I didn't want to stop him.
We got in the car and started driving. "Where are we going?" I asked as he took my hand. "If I told you then I'd have to kill you." He said as I breathed a laugh. "Death sounds lovely to me right now." I said then leaned my head on the window.
"Stop it." Colby said with a laugh as he drove. We were only driving for a couple more minutes before he parked in a gravel lot. "I'm too tired to hike." I said with a frown. "I'll literally carry you up the mountain." He said as we opened our doors and got out.
"It's gonna be worth it. I promise." Colby said and took my hand as we made our way to the hiking trail. "You better be right." I said with a sigh.
As we hiked the trail I looked around at the scenery, trying to enjoy it. I might have been exhausted, but being on the trail gave me a little pep in my step.
"This is really nice." I said quietly as I looked over at Colby. "You like it?" He asked as I nodded. "Yeah. Sorry for being so mean lately." I said as he shook his head.
"You're not doing it on purpose. You haven't really slept in a week, I would be cranky too." He said as we reached the top of the mountain.
"I wake you up every night though." I said as we walked to the bench that was by the edge of the cliff. "Yeah, I can take naps when you go to work though." He said as I nodded. "True. I'm sorry I wake you up though." I said as he shook his head and wrapped his arm around me.
"I know you don't mean to." He said as I rested my head on his shoulder. "I wish he would just leave me alone. He haunts my dreams and I can't escape him." I explained as Colby listened intently.
"It's just really fucking bogus." I said as he laughed. "Yeah, it's pretty bogus." He said then rubbed my arm gently. "I think I have something that will help you out." He said as I looked at him.
"French fries?" I asked as he scrunched his brow. "French fries?" He repeated as I nodded. "Yeah those sound really good right now." I said and looked out at the horizon.
"We can get those after we have this." He said and pulled a blunt out of his pocket and lighter. "Oh my god it's been forever." I said with a laugh as I took the blunt from him so I could look at it.
"Yeah, I thought it would help you sleep tonight." He said then took it so he could light it up. "It might put me in a coma." I said with a laugh as he handed me the lit blunt.
I took a couple puffs of it then handed it back to him. I coughed a couple times, since I wasn't used to the feeling of smoke in my lungs. "We're rusty." I said as Colby started coughing too.
"I don't know why we don't do this more often." He said with a laugh. "I think it's because we are trying to plan a wedding and don't want to have Cheetos and French fries as the main course." I said with a laugh as I cuddled into his side a little more.
"That's true." He said with a nod then handed me the blunt again.
We finished it off then watched as the sun slowly started to set. "Can we get burgers and milkshakes?" I asked as the weed started to effect me. "Yeah, let's go." Colby said then took my hand.
We walked down the mountain slowly as we laughed and enjoyed eachothers company. It felt good to actually be in a better mood.
When we got to the car I had a case of the giggles which made Colby laugh. "What's so funny?" He asked as I held my stomach, laughing so hard that I was crying. "You're so cute!" I said as he laughed. "You're pretty cute, too." He said then started driving to In n out.
"I can't wait to get a burger, I'm fucking starving." I said then pulled my legs up to my chest. "Yeah...you probably should have eaten before we got high." Colby said with a laugh.
"Too late!" I said as he pulled into the drive thru. We ordered our food and milkshakes then made our way back home.
By the time we got home and ate our food I was losing the energetic part of my high and was starting to fall asleep sitting up.
"Wanna go to bed?" Colby asked as I nodded. "Do you think I'm gonna dream?" I asked as we stood up. "No. I think you're gonna be out for a while." He said and walked with me upstairs.
"Good." I said then crawled into bed. "I love you, V." Colby said then kissed my head before turning the light off for me. "I luh you too." I mumbled as I drifted off.
As I fell asleep I said a little prayer to myself, hoping it ward away any bad dreams.
I just wanted to sleep.
