Chapter 14: A New Life

~~Maine's office, 2 months later~~

Maine leaned forward on her desk. "But these figures doesn't match. I mean if we put them together, they should balance out, but they don't!"

Ray looked at the figures she's pointing at on the financial statements. "Maybe there's
something wrong with the way that their mortgage is being amortized."

Maine was about to reply when she noticed her secretary at the door. "Yes, Zelle?"

"Ma'am, Dr. McGinley's secretary called reminding you of your appointment at 4:30pm."

'Oh yes, thanks Zelle." Maine looked at her watch and sees that it's 3:30pm. "Ray, can we finish this some other time?"

Ray has a concerned look on his face. "Dr. McGinley? Are you sick?"

Maine shrugged. "I don't know. We had the annual physical exam last week remember? Dr. McGinley called yesterday to tell me that he had to see me personally; something came up in the blood work. I don't feel anything different though, in fact, I'm actually eating more lately," pointing at the small pantry off the corner of her office where were stacks of take-out wrapper and paper bags were.

Ray laughed, "That I can see! Your cheeks have filled out. You no longer look like a starved fish!" drawing in his cheeks and puckering his lips trying to imitate a fish.

Maine threw her Mont Blanc pen at him. "How dare you, I've never looked like that!"

"Hey, do you mind if I go with you? I need to get the results of my physical as well."

"Sure!"

~~Dr. McGinley's Office Clinic~~

Maine timidly opened the door. "Hi! I'm here to see Dr. McGinley."

The receptionist looked up. "You must be Ms. Mendoza. Come in, the Doctor has been waiting for you."

Dr. McGinley stood up, extending his hand to Maine. "Ms. Mendoza, glad to see that you can make it. Sit down please."

Maine sat down. "I'm sorry I'm a bit late. Got caught in the middle of traffic jam on the way here."

"It's alright, anyway my last patient just left a few minutes ago. Your results came in the other day and something came up in the blood work. I did not want to tell it to you over the telephone that's why I requested that you come here."

Maine paled. "Is it life threatening?"

Dr McGinley smiled. "No, far from it. But I would like you to see a colleague of mine. She's the best in her field and I feel that you will get along with her just fine." As he scribbling down something on a piece of paper and then handing it to her.

Meanwhile, outside the door to the Doctor's inner office, Ray opened the door to Dr. McGinley's office. "Good afternoon..." but seeing no receptionist or anybody else at the desk. "I told her to stay here, where could she be?" he walked further inside hoping that she was still with the doctor in his inner office and that's when he heard their conversation.

Maine read the paper, "Dr. Rebecca Weismann? What would I need an OB-GYN for?"

Dr. McGinley smiled at the young woman's slowness to process this piece of information. "Ms. Mendoza, you need her for you pre and post-natal check-ups and as well as when you give birth."
