Chapter 70: Señorita?!

Maine leaned back and stretched. Despite the knot of tension she felt on her shoulders, she felt mighty fine. In three hours, she was able to bring to date all her pending projects in London; made arrangements with Ray to have the documents she prepared to be shipped within the week and even fed Sebastian in between. She felt so useful and productive. She relished in the feeling of earning her keep. She made the final changes in the financial statements, saved them and then closed the computer.

She looked up when the office door opened. Her mother-in-law walked in. "What would you like for lunch?" Maine looked at the clock on the desk. 11:00 a.m. They've got plenty of time to fix lunch. She smiled and asked tentatively. "I would like to cook with you. RJ has told me that you're a great cook. My cooking skills need improvement."

~~~~~~~
Maine slowly brought the ladle to her lips to taste the soup she made from scratch. She smiled with her eyes closed as she let the delicious taste course down her throat.
Her mother-in-law took the ladle from her tasted the soup. "And you said your cooking skills need improvement. This is delicious!"
Maine shrugged her shoulders. "I'm just good in making soups and fried rice from left overs. I'm such a helpless case when it comes to viands. It's either too bland or too flavorful."
Her mother-in-law laughed at her explanation. "That's how I started as well. But you mustn't give up. Practice makes perfect." She turned off the stove. "Now what do you want to learn?"
Her eyes were bright. "RJ's favorite dishes."
"Then let's start with sinigang na bangus for lunch." Jacinta answered from the refrigerator.
~~~~~~~

Father and son sat in comfortable silence as their Bentley made its way through the busy city lunch hour traffic. His father touched his shoulder. "Did you call your mother to inform her that we're coming home for lunch?"

He gave his father a sheepish smile. In his haste to get home, he completely forgot to call home.

"I take it you didn't."

RJ nodded. "Why don't you call her so that she will include us for lunch."

RJ searched his pockets for his mobile phone.

~~~~~~~
He drew the phone away from him. "That's strange." He observed. He has been dialing the same number twice in a row and every time he does, he gets the same answer. 'The number you dial is either unattended or out of our service coverage.'
"Where could he be?" Gio checked his watch. It was lunchtime over in Manila. 'Now where could RJ have taken his lunch?' He asked himself. He dialed again.
~~~~~~~

"Fullerton residence, how may I help you?" A pause as the servant listened to the caller. "I'm sorry but Señorito is not around. Would you like to leave a message with the Señorita?"

Gio eyebrows met in confusion. 'Señorita?!' Since when did RJ acquire a wife?! As far as he knows, he was the one getting married. He took a deep breath. "Yes. I would like to speak with the Señorita." He needed to find out who this Señorita is.
