Mentions of mental health that may be sensitive
Lyrics from Matilda by Harry Styles

Nothing 'bout the way that you were treated ever seemed especially alarming till now

So you tie up your hair and you smile like it's no big deal

Brock's POV

Lately, Victoria has been off. She's hiding something and I can tell no matter how much she tries to hide it. I know that when she was younger and living with her parents she wasn't treated well. Her parents, classmates, even friends.

Only her younger brother, Nolan, stuck with her through everything. She ties her hair up and smiles at everything while keeping her emotions bottled up.

What she doesn't know is that I know she's hiding something. Her birthday is coming up and I'm planning a party for her.

Matilda, you talk of the pain like it's all alright

But I know that you feel like a piece of you's dead inside

Vic came home and I immediately wrapped her in a hug which caught her by surprise. She wrapped her arms around my torso with slight hesitation.

"What's goin' on?" She asked. I looked down at her with a soft look.

"Why won't you tell me what's wrong?" I asked her softly. She looked up at me like a deer in headlights.

"I- nothing. Everything's fine!" Vic exclaimed nervously while scurrying away to our room.

I sighed in defeat. She acts like she's fine, but there's a hole in her heart. Whenever she's ready she'll tell me. Whenever she's ready.

 You don't have to go

You don't have to go home

Oh, there's a long way to go

"I should go home. It's Nolan's grad." Victoria said as she rushed to pack. I put my hands on her waist and turned her around.

"You don't have to go home you know." I mentioned as she looked up at me.

"But it's his grad an-" I cut her off.

"He'd understand. Isn't he literally coming to live with us in 3 days anyway?" I laughed slightly. She sighed and nodded.

"It's a long way to go.." She admitted. "I'll stay."

You can let it go

You can throw a party full of everyone you know

And not invite your family

'Cause they never showed you love

You don't have to be sorry for leaving and growing up

We decided to throw Nolan a grad party with a few friends. It'll be small, but it'll be appreciated. From what I've heard, they never got to go to/throw parties for birthdays or anything.

"You don't have invite your family." I said as she stressed about it. "They didn't show you love. They didn't care when you left to grow up." I shook her shoulders gently as a small smile graved her face.

We sent invitations out and set everything up. Nolan walked in and hugged Victoria for a bit. He then looked at me and his eyes lit up like he's never met me. He ran to me and hugged me. I always saw him as a younger brother.

The party went great. Nolan made new friends, we mingled, and everyone was happy. Vic walked up to me and hugged me before whispering two soft words.

"Thank you."
