Forty-Eight

Steve opened his eyes, hearing others talking quietly. He could feel someone holding his hand, and he turned his head, seeing her laying on a bed next to him. He couldn't help but smile, she really was home. His eyes drifted down to her stomach, seeing her bump, their baby.

'Welcome back Cap. How are you feeling?'... Steve let her hand go, taking the pads off his head and sat up, looking at Tony. He noticed the two asgardians there as well as the others.

'Relieved, tired. I'm really awake, right?'.. He asks, swinging his legs to the side, and standing up. He felt a pinch on his arm, and he looked, seeing Wanda smiling at him. He chuckled at her, hugging her... 'Thank you for doing this..'

'I'm glad to have been able to. You both helped us, it is good to return the favour...'.. Wanda stepped back, looking over at Lia, still asleep... 'She's exhausted. She will wake up, but for now, let her sleep'

Steve turned, and moved around to the side of her bed, he brushed her hair from her face, smiling down at her. He looked up, between Thor and Loki, nodding at the two of them... 'Thank you for bringing her home..'

Loki chuckled, shaking his head... 'There was a slight problem, or we would have been here sooner..'.. He saw the Captain frown at him... 'She was practicing magic, shape shifting. She turned herself into a dove, and was unable to change back for a short while..'

Tony chuckled, and the image of her as a bird, caused him to laugh more. He couldn't contain it, and tears began to form in his eyes, as he laughed... 'I wish I had seen that..'.. He looked at his sister, smiling... 'Magic, huh? Is there anything she doesn't know..'

'Hm, how to hold her tongue in the presence of our father. I must say, hearing her admonish him as though he was a child was amusing to see. I do not think I have ever seen my father scared of a mortal before..'.. Loki grinned, and Thor chuckled.

'She is a fine warrior, and much stronger than we know. She will return to her ways. Though, I will miss seeing her hold how she swears. It was quite a feat for her on Asgard...'... Thor chuckled again, shaking his head.

The others all laughed with him. Clint hopped from where he was sitting, and came over to Lia. He looked down at her, and smiled at Steve... 'Congrats Cap. If you need any help, or advice, just give me a call..'

Steve shook Clints hand as he held it out. It had slipped his mind that Barton was a father too. He was thankful to have someone he could talk to about it... 'Thanks Barton, I appreciate it..'

'What are we going to do with sleeping beauty here? Leave her in the bed, or take her to her room?'... Tony asks Steve.

'I'll take her, and stay with her. She's going to want to see everyone when she wakes up..'.. He looks between Thor and Loki... 'You two staying?'

Loki was surprised at the Captains words. He cleared his throat, looking around at the others... 'I would like to be near, should she wish to see me..'

That settles it then. You'll have to bunk up with hammer head there, but you can stay..'.. Tony nods at him.

'Take my room..'.. Loki turns back to Steve, as he lifts Lia from the table... 'I'll stay with her, in her room. Take mine, no  offence to Thor, but we soundproof our room, because he snores really loud..'

The others sniggered, and Thor shrugged... 'It has never bothered Loki before..'

Loki looked at him... 'That is because my room is down the other end of the hall brother. Even then I can still hear you..'

'I'll get in touch with the others, and Shuri. Let them all know she's home. Pepper is already on a jet coming back, so be warned Cap, don't lock the door. Pepper will break it down anyway to get to her..'.. Tony nods his head at Lia, in Steve's arms.

Steve tried not to laugh... 'I don't doubt she wouldn't. Consider it noted. I'm taking her to her room.  Let me know when the others are back..'... He nods to them and leaves the lab, walking down towards the bedrooms. He looked down at her sleeping form. She was nuzzled into him, her breathing even. He could see how tired she was, and her colour so pale. She felt so light in his arms, and he guessed that she hadn't eaten or slept properly for a long time.

Being very careful to open her door, he walked in, placing her in the bed. He removed her shoes, and pulled her quilt over her. He walked back to close her door, and asked Friday to close her blinds.

As the room began to darken, blocking out the sunlight, he removed his shoes, and got into bed next to her. He carefully moved closer, putting his arm around her, resting his hand on her stomach. He finally had her home, both of them. Smiling to himself, it didn't take long, before he fell asleep.

Lia awoke, frowing as she tried to figure out where she was. She could feel that she was wrapped in someone's arms, and she turned her head, looking behind her. She broke out into a smile, seeing Steve next to her. She quickly looked around, seeing her old room at the compound.

She carefully turned so she could face him, her fingers tracing over his features. She could see that stubble was showing through, and his hair was slightly longer than before. She brushed a small part from his face, seeing that he was looking at her, smiling.

'Hi..'.. She softened, hearing him speak.

'Hi..'.. She had so much she wanted to say to him, but she didn't know where to start... 'I'm sorry..'

'No..'.. He shook his head... 'No apologies sweetheart. You're here now, you're home...'... His hand came up, cupping her face... 'I missed you..'

Lia was fighting the urge to cry, he was speaking so softly to her, and she could see in his eyes, that he was happy she was back... 'I shouldn't have run, and when I found out I shou-..'

He cut her off, kissing her. He rolled slightly, so he was above her, giving everything he had into that kiss. He was carful of her, knowing she was carrying the most amazing gift he could ever have. He pulled back, smirking down at her, as his thumb traced her lips... 'I remember how to shut you up'

Lia just sighed, her lips parting as her tongue licked at his thumb. She saw his eyes flare at her action, and she couldn't help but smile. Even if he didn't love her, he wanted her.

'Don't start something I'll have to finish sweetheart..'.. He lowered his head and nipped at her ear... 'I can do this all day..' Lia moaned, hearing his husky tone, and sucked his thumb into her mouth.

'Miss Lia, Captain Rogers. Boss would like me to inform you Miss Potts is currently making her way to your room. She will be with you in a moment..'..

Steve dropped his head to her neck, and huffed out a breath... 'Damn it Pepper..'.. He rolled onto his back, staring up at the ceiling. Lia giggled, and sat herself up, rubbing her hands over her face.

'We'll finish this later sweetheart, right now, I need a cold shower..'.. He sat up, kissing her slowly. Unfortunately, Pepper burst into the room, grabbed Steve and shoved him out of the way.

Lia burst out laughing at what just happened, seeing the look on Steve's face at being shoved by a small woman. Lia looked at Pepper, seeing her face. Her smile dropped and she held her arms out to her.

Pepper climbed onto the bed and wrapped her in a hug. Steve sighed, smiling at Lia before leaving the room. The two of them needed a moment.
