Grace POV
I hear a tapping on my window. I groan. The tapping continues. I groan again and hug cookie closer to me. The tapping gets more persistent and more annoying. I get out of my bed and go to the window. I open it to see Ash. Ash is my new friend. He is 15 but he is really nice. I've never seen what he really looks like because he only can come see me at night when nobody is around. I like him.
"Hi ash" I say quietly so I don't let the guards know I am awake. "Hi princess" he says quietly too. I sit on my bed and he sits across from me. Ash knows my real name but I like when he calls me princess.
"How was your day little princess" ash asks. "Good. I got to play with Braxton and mommy" I tell him. Ash has always been nice to me. "That's good" he says.
"Ash, mommy and daddy won't let me have a tiger" I whine. "Why do you need a tiger Grace" he asks like daddy did. "Because princess jasmine has one so I need one I want to be just like her" I tell him. "I don't think a tiger would like me. It took a while to get cookie here to like me" he says and pets on cookie. "I think it would" I say to him. "What would you name a tiger" he asks. "I didn't think any one would ask that question. I would name it Wilson" I tell him. "Wilson?" "Yeah, why not." "Okay, it's your tiger."
"Ash where do you hide out" I ask him. "I have a tree house in the middle of the forest" he tells me. "Do you stay with your mommy and daddy" I ask him. "No, it's just me" he says. "Why" I ask. "When I was young I was taken from my mother and I ran away from my captor and my mother all together to come see the famous princess herself" he teases. I giggle. "Is your mommy a shadowhunter" I ask. "No little princess" he says.
"Who are your parents ash" I ask him. "You're asking a lot of questions little Grace." "I'm just wondering." "Well if you really want to know my mother is the queen of the seelie courts and my father was Sebastian Morganstern" he tells me. The name of the seelie Queen scares me. I bury my face in cookie. "Oh no ash, no" I say. "What's wrong Grace" he asks me. I look up at him. "The seelie Queen, she was after me for the first 5 years of my life. She wanted to kill me ash." "I heard and I'm terribly sorry little one. I wish I can erase all of that but I cannot. I promise you I do not wish to hurt you." "How can I know for sure?" "Because I swear on the angel Princess Grace, I would never want to hurt you. I know you're powerful and if used the wrong way those powers can be dangerous, I would never take those powers from you or kill you. I like you too much to want to hurt or kill you little one." I smile at him.
"When can I finally see what you look like Ash" I ask him. I always have to keep the lights off so the guards don't get alerted and come in here and catch him. "I guess now is alright, lets go in the bathroom so we can close the door so the guards don't see you are awake" he says. "Okay" I say and get off the bed. I go in the bathroom and he grabs the witchlight. I can't turn it on like mommy can yet because I'm only 6. I close the door and he turns on the light. I guess he can since he's 16.
"You look just like unca Jo Jo."
"Who is that little princess?" "Mommys brother. Unca Jon- Jont, I cant say his name yet but I'm trying. He looks just like you." "You're mother is Clarissa Fairchild is she not?" "No, she's Clary Herondale." I know how to say mommys name, its easy and short. Unca Jo Jos name is too long and hard. "You're my cousin" he says. "No I'm not, Unca Jo Jo only has one baby and that baby Zillah." "Grace, is Zillah a boy or a girl?" "A girl of course" I tell him.
"Grace I am your cousin. I promise I am. My father is Sebastian, or Jonathan, Morganstern Zillahs dad" ash says. He's my cousin? "So then have you met aunt Alice? Are you going to go live with her and Unca jo jo" I ask. "You have an aunt Alice" he asks. "Yeah Zillahs mommy. She married Unca jo jo. Mommy said she gets off work on Sundays though, whatever that means. But she comes over every other day."
"Do you want me to move in with my father and your aunt Alice" he asks me. "Yes! That way if you do I can see you all the time during the day. And I can go over to Unca jo jo's house all the time." He smiles at me. "We will see. But you need to go to sleep little princess." I take his hand and we leave the bathroom.
He turns the light out and I get in the bed. "Promise you will think about it" I ask. "I promise little princess. Now go to sleep." "Okay ash goodnight" I say. "Goodnight Grace" he says. He climbs out of the window and disappears. I close my eyes and fall asleep.
