25: ☆ come to see the show ☆

Start from the beginning

To say the inside wasn't overwhelming would be a lie. As soon as we walked in, the glow from the sun disappeared from behind us and was instead illuminated with neon lights jumping from wall to wall.

It took me a couple seconds to blink my eyes shut and get used to my surroundings. Loud music was pumping through the room, so loud I could even hear it pulsing down my throat if that was even possible,

I could tell by the squint in Fred's eye he wasn't used to our surroundings but we both made a determined look towards each other and pushed forward.

The bar was in the corner of the large room once we got into the section of the club, the smell of sweat and shrieks of laugher engulfing us. We were here hours before we were supposed to even spot Skender so I couldn't imagine how much bigger the crowd was going to get by then.

One guy leaned forward and smiled widely, grabbing my ass tightly between his hands making me turn around sharply. Before I opened my mouth Fred beat me to it.

"Touch her one more time and we'll see who's smiling," he snarled and I could the guy look frightened and back away slowly.

Everyone more or less was in the same mindset as that guy, clearly drunk off their asses and trying to get close to anyone.

There were two open stools right in the corner and Fred pulled me forward so we could both perch ourselves atop it. No one seemed to pay any extra mind to us or notice that we weren't who we looked like.

"Should we just wait here until we spot someone like him?" I yelled over the music to Fred. I hadn't anticipated this many people to be storming the club and already be here by the time we were.

"No let's ask around maybe we'll have better luck this way—excuse me!" Fred called with his hand up motioning the bartender over.

"Yes what can I help you with?" The older woman smiled at us as she was cleaning some shot glasses.

"Two shots of firewhiskey please," Fred nodded and the woman just scoffed.

"Baby I think you meant to say fireball," she turned away laughing and to go pour our drinks.

"Stop using wizard lingo," I elbowed him as he muttered another sorry in response.

"Here you go, to the happy couple," she raised her own shot glass and the three of us poured it back down our throats. The stinging sensation was immediate and I had to hide my face down to keep myself from gagging.

"Funny you say the happy couple seeing as me and my fiancé just tied the knot last night," Fred smiled at me and lied to the bartender.

I tried to conceal my surprised expression and just mirrored his, "yes I suppose we did."

Fred continued to speak, "we were actually wondering if you had any regulars come by to this club? Any that would show us a good time?" He sent a charming grin her way and I could see the older woman stay glued to his eyes.

"Well honey there are a lot of people who come by here every night I can't guarantee any names—"

"Oh come on Linda!" He read the name from her tag, "you're telling me a woman as fine as you are can't recommend anybody to us?"

She waited a couple seconds and started pouring us a second shot, "well now that depends on what kind of fun you're looking for?"

I glanced to Fred wondering how he was going to answer; hoping he wasn't going to ask for something we could not provide.

"Well we're new to the city so maybe someone who knows the good places around here, someone who's got a magical presence about them."

I could see the gears in this woman's head turning and all at once as soon I slipped in her head, I could feel her fumble around names until she decided on the one we so desperately needed.
