Reader's POV

I was sitting on the ground, my textbooks, notes, and homework scattered around me. I was humming along to my "Homework" playlist that was softly playing through my BlueTooth speaker.

I looked up when I heard a soft chuckle come from my doorway. "What?" I asked, tucking a piece of hair behind my ear. "Why are you watching me?"

"Nothing," Y/B/N shrugged, still laughing. "I just think it's funny how you always have everything sprawled out like this. Yourself included."

I stared at him as he walked in and sat on the floor across from me.

"How do you do your homework while listening to music?" Y/B/N laughed.

"It's called multitasking."

"Haven't you ever heard the saying, you can't half-ass two things?"

"I'm not," I shrugged. "It's more like background noise."

I ignored the look on his face and went back to my homework. I got through a few questions before I glanced up to see Y/B/N still watching me, only now he had a different look on his face. It was almost like he needed to tell me something but was worried about how I would react.

"What's wrong with you?" I sighed as I put my pencil in my textbook and shut it.

"I wanted to talk about Dylan," he said, slowly.

"No," I said quickly. "I don't want to talk. . ."

"Listen, kid. I know you're nervous to tell him, but what if you knew he felt the same way?" He asked, cutting me off.

"I don't know how many times I have to tell you this, but Dylan doesn't feel the same way about me as I do about him. Just because you think you've seen Dylan look at me in a certain way, doesn't mean he loves me."

"Yes, he does," Y/B/N said starting to sound desperate.

"Please, stop." My voice broke as I was no longer able to stop the tears from streaming down my cheeks.

"Y/N?" He said, scooting closer to me. He reached up and caught a tear with his thumb. "Why can't you believe that Dylan has feelings for you?"

I opened and closed my mouth, struggling to talk. I quickly looked away, tears still streaming down my cheeks.

When I finally was able to form words, my voice broke. "Because why would he love me?"

"Because you're my best friend and I couldn't imagine my life without you."

Y/B/N and I jumped when another voice spoke up. We turned towards the door to see Dylan smiling down at us. Y/B/N glanced over at me, a smirk clearly on his lips. I tried to ignore him as I nervously bit my lip, my focus on my best friend who may have just heard my confession.

Dylan glanced between me and my brother before he slowly smirked at Y/B/N. "Hey, do you mind if I talk to Y/N? Alone?"

"Of course I don't mind," Y/B/N said as he stood up and sent me another look before leaving. Dylan hesitated before sitting down next to me. I played with my hands, not looking up at him.

"How much did you hear?" I asked softly, finally breaking the silence.

". . .but things are different between me and Dylan. If I told him. . . I could lose him."

"You're gonna lose him if you keep pushing him away Y/N. You and Dylan have been best friends since you were little. You could never lose him. Dylan is the only person you've ever opened up to, other than me, but you gotta open all the way."

"It's scary. What if he. . . What if he doesn't feel the same way? What if I tell him how I feel and he rejects me? Sure, it could end well and we could be happy together but. . . What if it doesn't end well? I could lose him. . . I can't lose him, Y/B/N."

"You're not going to lose him."

I looked over at him to see him holding his phone out. He stopped the message, his smile never leaving his lips.

"What. . . When did you. . ." I stuttered.

"You butt-dialed me," he said softly, causing my heart to jump into my throat.

"So. . . You know. . ."

"I know that you're in love with me," he said simply, smiling at me.

"I just. . . It's not what. . ." I bit my lip, unable to think of anything to say.

Dylan cut me off as he leaned over and pressed his lips to mine. It took me a second before I started kissing him back. As I started moving my lips against his, he reached up and cupped my cheek in his hand.

Dylan pulled away and leaned his forehead against mine as we caught our breaths.

"The day you fell in love with me is the same day I fell in love with you."

"The day I was almost hit by that car?" I stuttered, leaning away from him.

"Yes," he laughed as he tucked a piece of hair behind my ear. "But you're missing the bigger picture."

"The bigger picture," I said slowly as his smile grew. I held my breath, waiting for him to actually say it.

"I love you too, Y/N."

I grabbed his face and pressed my lips to his, this time being the one to initiate the kiss. As our lips moved in sync, Dylan pulled me over so I was straddling his hips. I felt him smile into the kiss as I wrapped my arms around his neck, his hands rubbing up and down my back.

I pulled away, breathless. "I love you," I gasped between breaths. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you. I was just. . . I was scared."

"It's okay," he smiled as he leaned back, smiling at me. "I was too scared to tell you how I felt too."

"I know I should've told you before," I said, looking away from him. "I just didn't want to risk losing you."

Dylan reached forward and lifted my chin so I was looking at him. "You could never lose me, Y/N."

I smiled as I cupped his cheeks in my hands and pressed my lips to his. I felt him smile into the kiss as it slowly got heated. We jumped apart when there was a knock on my door.

"I know what you guys are doing!" Y/B/N yelled through the door. "Even though I support you two and wanted you two to end up together, doesn't mean I support you two doing that."

I laughed as we awkwardly looked back at each other. I bit my lip as Dylan reached up and tucked a piece of hair behind my ear.

"I love you," he whispered, knowing my brother was still listening at the door.

"I love you too."
