Vinny and I have been living together in the quiet woods of New Jersey for about a week, and while he's at his new job, I work on unpacking us and waiting for Habit to strike.
I'm on high alert so much that I have taken to carrying around an old math book to whack someone or something with before I escape.
My plan is to surprise whatever surprises me with this.
Hopefully it works.
I walk through the house and listen carefully as the sound of footsteps on the floor draws my attention to the kitchen. Slowly and carefully, I pick my way to the kitchen, math book raised.
Lucky for me that the kitchen is right by the door.
I hear a creak and then THWACK! I hit the bad guy. I spring for the door, only for someone to yell out in pain - someone like Vinny. I turn around and look at him.
"Oh my God, I'm so sorry," I say.
"Nervous?"
"Yeah, you could say that."
"Okay, just please don't do that again," he says.
I blush furiously. "Sorry."
"No, it's not a bad idea, just be a bit careful when you have it," he says. "Just be careful, okay?"
I nod. He hugs me, and then he goes to the sink to wash off his face. I follow him.
