"I could kill you," Evan says to me, clutching his head. "Or worse. Far, far worse."

"Ev, it's okay," I assure him.

"No, it's not. He's coming back, and I don't know what to do to protect you," he says.

Then his expression changes and darkens. "You won't be able to save her." His voice is deep and raspy, and it inspires fear in my heart.

"Habit, please don't hurt me," I say.

"I'm not going to. I'm going to make you suffer."

He starts towards me, then clutches his head. I back up, watching as Habit loses his control and Evan comes back. He lowers his hands and gives a shaky sigh.

"Y/n? Are you okay?"

"Maybe," I respond.

"He's so strong. I can't fight him," he says, sitting down abruptly on a nearby bench.

I sit beside him. "He's strong, yes, but you're stronger."

"How am I stronger?" he asks. "I keep losing it."

"Everybody loses it sometimes," I say softly.

He laughs, and it twists to Habit's. "Preach it, little girl."

I back up again and he chuckles again, standing up and advancing on me, making me back up against the wall. He smiles darkly at me and grabs my hair.

"Ow! What the fuck?!" I exclaim.

"You're mine. Not Evan's, mine."

"In your dreams, demon."

He laughs loudly. "You're fiery, I like that."

"Bite me."

"I would love to."

"Then what are you waiting for? Just do it."

Habit smiles again, showing elongated teeth.

It scares me, but I don't show it. I remain stoic and silent. He sighs and lets me go, and walks away, nodding.

"You really are fun to play with, y/ n," he says.

"Glad I could please." I spit at him.

"Oh, come now, where are your manners, young lady?"

"Fuck off."

"Right back at you, bitch."

Suddenly, he's Evan again. Evan walks over to me.

"Y/n. Did he hurt you?" he asks.

"N - no," I stutter. "It was just witty banter."

He hugs me. "Thank you for never giving up on me."

"You're welcome."
