I wake up screaming from night terrors. My whole body shakes uncontrollably and I'm crying. My big brother, Evan, rushes into the room.

He flicks on the light, sees my face, and hurries over to me. I can't help but cry more.

"What happened?" Evan asks.

"A nightmare. Habit killed you," I say.

"It's okay, sweetie, I'm here now," he says softly, smoothing down my hair. "It was just a bad dream. Remember what Mom used to say about it?"

"No," I say, sniffling.

"She said to tell the nightmares that they had no power over you, and to always fight back," he says.

"Ev?"

"Yeah?"

"Can you maybe sleep on the couch over there? I ... I don't want to be alone," I say.

"Of course, y/n."

He goes over, sits down on the couch, and waits until I'm almost asleep to lay down himself and turn off the lights. The sound of his calm, even breathing, and the fact that he's right there calms me into deep sleep.
