Evan and I sit in bed as it storms outside. He holds me on his lap, and I find comfort in him that I cannot find outside. It's night time, so I can't ignore the constant flashes of lightning and booms of thunder.

I close my eyes and cover them with my hand as another flash illuminates the room. I can't help but flinch at it.

"You okay?" Evan asks.

"Peachy," I respond.

"You're gonna be okay," he says, rubbing my back gently. "I'm here. I'm not going to let anything bad happen."

"You sure?" I ask him, voice shaking.

"Positive." He kisses my forehead. "You need to stop worrying so much."

I smile at him, only for a thunder crash to make me yelp in shock (pun intended).

"God, you're jumpy," he says teasingly. "Are you sure you're okay?"

"I - I don't know."

Evan laces his arms around me and I lean into him, ignoring the lightning flashes for his heartbeat. He's so soothing, even when everything's chaotic. How on earth he can be so calm is completely beyond me. But I love him for it.

"You'll be okay, I know it," he whispers in my ear.

"I hope so."

"I know so."
