A long time ago

A demon always followed their Master. That hadn't changed with Jimin and Yoongi. As the days passed, Yoongi had developed an immunity to the biting cold that seemed to lurk over Jimin. When he thought about it, he never really understood the origins of Jimin's race or where he came from.

Jimin was like a shadow, he wore no expressions. Not a smile that could indicate happiness, not a frown that could tell Yoongi of his disapproval. Jimin only followed him quietly, walking behind him at all times. There weren't any words that could let know Yoongi know him more. But even then Yoongi was curious about him.

That morning Yoongi woke up, he yawned slightly, it was only before dusk. The sun had yet to rise. And as per usual Yoongi found Jimin crouched beside his bedside, his round eyes looking at him softly. There was neither glimmer nor presence of a daze. His eyes were just as lifeless as the day they met.

"I'm starting to wonder if you even sleep Jimin," Yoongi mumbled as he slowly rolled up his straw mat and placed it under the small table they had in their bedroom. "I left you some space next to me... doesn't it make you feel uncomfortable?" And as per usual Jimin doesn't respond. 'Can he hear me?' Yoongi wondered.

"Are you talking to your imaginary friend again?" Aera rolled towards Yoongi from her mat. "It's been a few months since the summoning festival, why are you still talking to yourself?"

Yes. Because Jimin was a demon that couldn't be seen by others. A shadow that couldn't be recognised. It was like he didn't exist. But to Yoongi his existence was as clear as day. He softly patted Jimin's head and sighed. He could feel his hair, honey blonde, and those red eyes that were unique. He was real. "I'm talking to Jimin, my demon. I keep telling you." Yoongi frowned.

"You even made up a name." She sighed. "It's okay that you don't have a demon. A nearby wolf clan had taken us in, we are moving to live there next month. So you don't have to-"

"I gave him that name, don't talk about him like that." Yoongi defended angrily as he covered Jimin's little ears. Just in case, he heard.

"Any way we need to finish our chores before mother comes back from her travels." Her hair was still messy from rolling around in her sleep but she messily brushed it away and tucked her mat away with Yoongi's. She reached her hand out to her demon, ruffling his black fur. "Agust." She giggled. "We need to go hunting later." She slowly walked out of the room.

Yoongi took a cloth and gently wiped Jimin's hands. "We need to pick some fruits okay." He smiled as he helped Jimin up. They begin their journey into the woods.

"How come no one can see you?" Yoongi mumbled as he started plucking berries from the bush he found. Once again Jimin doesn't reply. The human sighed as he began plucking the berries from the tree. He slowly filled the silence with his ramblings. "It's okay, I know you are real. I don't mind what other people think, but I wish they wouldn't say I'm pretending. I guess it's strange to have a demon that people can't see and even if they could see you, I don't think they would believe me anyway. Mother doesn't really say anything about it either, she goes really quiet-" He quickly turned around after he heard some shuffling, which was strange, Jimin never made any noise. He almost dropped his basket when he saw all the apples Jimin had collected in his arms. He slowly placed them into Yoongi's basket, not saying a word.

This was the first time he saw Jimin do anything besides following him quietly. "You-" Yoongi stuttered. "How did you get all those apples? We aren't even tall enough to climb the trees." He gasped.

Jimin responded by waving his hands, and Yoongi could feel himself rising feet off the ground. He swayed his hands about, unable to balance until Jimin took his hand to steady him. The berries were thrown in the air from shock, but they all froze in the air around them like fireflies glistening under the moon. Yoongi wondered how Jimin was able to control them. "Wait- Jimin please put me down. This isn't good I'm going to feel sick."

Jimin tilted his head slightly, the hollow expression he wore slowly formed confusion. It was brief but it was the first expression Yoongi had ever seen on Jimin's face. It was a memory he treasured. Even as he heard himself chuckle at how innocent Jimin was. How was it possible that he had no recollection of such an important memory? Yoongi slowly felt his body lower softly onto the ground. The berries and apples slowly filling up the basket. He noticed a piece of berry on Jimin's blonde hair, he reached out and plucked it away. "Wow you really are the best." Yoongi giggled. "If we go back home with the fruits we are allowed to play! Since this was all our chores for today."

He stood up wiping the soil that stuck to his clothes. Looking back at Jimin he saw a lost boy, one that seemed like he had yet to understand the world. Yoongi held his hand out for Jimin to take. There was a slight hesitation but Jimin's hand slowly reached out. Even at a young age, Yoongi wanted Jimin to express himself a little more. Because he never saw him as a demon. From the start, he was already someone special that couldn't be replaced.

Jimin lifted his hand once more and the basket of fruits levitated once again behind them. This was good Yoongi thought. At least he wouldn't have to worry about carrying something so heavy.

"You've been following me around for three months now, do you not get bored?" Yoongi asked suddenly. Since their hands were free so he held Jimin's, worried he was to get lost somehow.

Jimin stopped walking, slowly pulling his sleeves up. Yoongi saw black chains appear on his wrist. He hadn't seen them before, he wondered if Jimin could hide this from him if he chooses to. Then Jimin pointed towards Yoongi's wrist where a small marking of what looked like a pair of jagged wings had formed. Jimin tried to gesture something frantically. His hands waving around like he was trying to explain something so complicated. Even when Yoongi remembered it, he found it adorable. Even if the idea of it all hurt. Jimin was chained to him.

"I see." Yoongi whispered. "Because you're my demon, where I go. You follow. But... I don't want you to think you are my servant or something like that. If you need help with something, I will help you." He wondered if the boy understood what he was saying. Jimin slowly nodded. They had been together for a few months already but this was the first time Yoongi felt like they had really communicated. So as Yoongi took the first step, Jimin took the second closely behind him. He wished one day, Jimin would be comfortable enough to stand beside him. But even such a mundane wish comes with a price.
