Grace slept all through the night so I'm glad of that. I get out of the bed and go to her bed. She's still asleep. I guess I could leave her here for right now and let her sleep.
I go downstairs and start making myself some coffee and pancakes. Bear walks in the kitchen sniffing around. I scoop some of his dog food into his bowl and give it to him so he can eat while I make the pancakes. I hear more footsteps come in the kitchen. I look over my shoulder and see izzy and Simon have come in. "I smell pancakes" izzy says. "Well i'm glad to hear your nose is working because thats what im making" I say back. I flip my pancakes and start putting them on a plate. They both grab some pancakes and start eating them. "So did you two have fun last night" I ask. They both almost choke on their orange juice. "Clary! nothing happened" izzy said. "Okay" I say. I start making more pancakes. I put blueberries in some and chocolate chips in other ones. Alec and Magnus come in next and get their pancakes. Cookie walks in so I know Grace isn't far behind her. She never leaves that baby. Everyone is down here so jace is most likely with her. I go ahead and make her bowl of food and set it down on the floor for her to eat. I start making Graces bottle. Jace comes in holding a sleepy Grace. I take her and feed her. "Ooh pancakes" jace says happily. He stacks some on a plate of his own and starts eating.
"Aren't you going to eat clary" alec asks me. "Maybe. I'm not that hungry and I'm going to java jones later" I say. "Why" Simon asks. "I'm doing some interview for my old job this morning" I tell them. "Oh" Simon says. "Yeah I should probably go get changed and ready to go" I say. "Okay do you want me to take Grace" Alec asks. "Sure I guess" I say. I hand her to him. I leave the kitchen.
When I get up to my bedroom I start looking through my clothes for something to wear. Something cute. I find a white shirt, a grey leather jacket, some skinny jeans and white converse. I think this should be good enough. I brush my hair and my teeth and make sure I look okay for the day. I grab my sketchbook. Maybe I will sit in java Jones for a little while after the interview.
When I leave the bedroom I see Alice leave hers too. "Hey Alice. I made pancakes. They are in the kitchen" I say. "Oh cool thanks. Hey have you heard anything from your brother" she asks. "No I haven't. You may want to go ahead and eat now quickly. When he gets here he will probably want to start" I say. "Yeah Probably. Have fun at that interview" she says. "Thanks good luck with training" I tell her. "Thanks I'm gonna need it" she says. We part ways at the elevator.
I get down the elevator and get in my car. I get a text from Reagan. It says 'Hey clary it's Reagan. Can you meet at java Jones in about 15 minuets for the interview?' I text her back and say 'Yeah sure I was actually just about to head that way now'. I pull out of the garage and onto the road. I pass mom halfway there. I call Alice. "Hey clary" she says. "Hey Alice I just passed mom and Jonathan on the way to java Jones so he should be there in like 7 minutes" I tell her. "Oh wow okay thanks for letting me know. I will have to hurry" she says. "No problem see you later Alice" I say. "Bye Clary see you later" she tells me. I hang up.
I pull into java Jones and get my black coffee. I take a seat and wait for whoever to get here.
A few minutes later someone gets here. "Are you clary fray" the lady asks me. "Yes ma'am I am" I say. "I'm Juliet franklin" she says. "Nice to meet you" I say. "I've been dying to see and meet you for years. Your designs are amazing" she says. "Oh thanks" I say. "Are you still designing" she asks. "Some times, I just do it on my own for myself mostly" I say. "That's cool" she says. She writes down what I said. "Do you still live in New York" she asks. "No I moved not long after I quit working for Sherri Hill" I say. "Why did you move" she asks. "My husband has a family house out of the country that has been passed down to him so we both moved there" I say. I am talking about the manor house of course. "Where is it since I know you said it's out of the country" she says. "It's in France" I say. Idris is a small country hidden between France, Germany, and Switzerland. She writes this down. "Why did you quit working for Sherri Hill" Juliet asks. "Well I got married and we were about to move so I figured it would be easier if I just quit" I tell her. She nods and writes this down.
"Do you have any kids" she asks me. "I have one. I have a daughter. She was just born at the beginning of the month" I answer. "I bet she is so cute" Juliet says. "She is" I say. "So do you work now" she asks. "No I don't I get to stay at home but my husband works" I say. "That sounds nice" she says. She writes down everything I have said. "How does it feel knowing that people wanted to know about you and your dress designs are now worth a lot to people" she asks me. "I was surprised. I didn't know I was that popular and I honestly didn't think they were just the greatest things in the world that's why it surprised me. But I mean I guess it's a good thing" I say. She writes this down. "So if you don't work what do you like to do for fun" she asks. "Oh Um... I've started to like horseback riding, I still draw, and I like to read and spend time with my family. Jace has a brother and sister who lives not far from us, so I will go see them and hang out with them for a little while" I say. I don't know how I would exactly explain Magnus so I will just mention Alec and Isabelle. Juliet writes this down. "You said you ride horses, do you have any" she asks. "I have three. Autumn, trapper, and major" I tell her. "So you have any other pets" she asks. "Three dogs, chrissie, bear, and cookie" I tell her.
"How much longer are you going to be in New York" she asks. "I'm leaving in probably two days" I say. "Oh wow. So why did you come" she asks. "Well me and jace both grew up here and the rest of our family wanted to meet our daughter who was just born so we decided to come back for a little while" I say. "Oh wow so I'm guessing you both met here as well" she asks. "We did we met at pandemonium but didn't really talk except when we saw each other here at Java Jones" I tell her. Its true. We saw each other at pandemonium and I saw him kill a demon right in front of me. Of course it freaked me out and he found me later, here at java Jones when I was with Simon. Then, well, you know what happens from there. "You just don't strike me as the club type" Juliet says. "That's what a bunch of people say" I tell her. That's exactly what Reagan said. "I bet he was happy he married someone with a lot of money" Juliet says. "Jace doesn't really care about the money" I say. "Really? I'm surprised, most of the men I know of would love to meet a girl who has a bunch of money" she says. "I'm sure" I say.
She asks me a few more questions then she says "thank you Clary. I will have it up by tomorrow. Probably by noon. It was great meeting you" she says. "Okay thanks. It was nice meeting you too" I say. She stands up and leaves the small coffee shop.
I drink the rest of my coffee then go outside and get my sketchbook. I go back inside. I get another coffee and sit back down at my table. I start to draw in my sketchbook.
Alice POV
The moment Jonathan got here he wanted to start training me. I agreed of course since I told him yesterday I wanted to become a shadowhunter. I just didn't know there would be this much work to be put into this.
"Keep your legs separated more" Jonathan tells me. I do as he tells me. We are practicing throwing daggers. I've seen it done before but I never thought hitting the target was this hard to do.
"You want to try fighting" he asks me. I nod. We start. "You start too strong. Save your energy and try and wear your opponent out. Use his energy to help you" he tells me.
We go and go for a few more hours and I am exhausted. "You are pushing me too hard" I say. "Well you wanted to become a shadowhunter and here is all the training we had to go through" he tells me. I can now understand what Clary said to me yesterday. We are still fighting and the next thing I know my feet are swept from under me and I land with a hard thud on the ground. "Hey! I wasn't ready" I say. "You can't get distracted" he says. "That hurt" I say. "If you think that hurt you have no idea what 'that hurts' means until you get stung by a demon, then it hurts" he says. I get up.
"Come on lets go back to the daggers" he says. We go back. He pulls some out of the target for me to throw. I throw them. "Ugh, when can we get to the weapons? You know the fun stuff" I ask him. "We will get to that it will just be a while" Jonathan says. I throw another dagger at the target. "I don't understand why I have to know how to do this. I already know how to use a bow" I say. "Well what are you going to do when you don't have your bow and are weaponless with maybe only a silver dagger" Jonathan asks me. He has a point. "But I don't want to do this. It's unnecessary. I mean does Alec even know how to do all this or am I just wasting my time" I ask. I really don't want to do this. I throw another one and of course it misses the target by a lot. "Yes" I hear someone say. I look over and see Alec has come into the training room. "Yes what" I ask. "Yes I know how to do it. we all had to learn it. Its part of out training" Alec says. He walks over and picks up one of the daggers at my feet and throws them. It hits right in the center of the target. "Showoff" I mutter. He chuckles and says "Here." He shows me how to do it. "Stand like this" he says. I copy him. "Arm back like this" he says. I move my arm like he does. "No, like this" Jonathan says. He comes over and fixes my arm. "Now take it back and let it go" Alec says. He lets his go and it hits the center. I do the same too and it does the same. I've never actually hit the center before, and now I have thanks to Alec. "Thanks Alec" I say excited. "No problem" he says. "You do need to know how to do this though Alice. I know you don't want to and don't think you need to, but it will help you later" Alec says. I nod.
"Hey Jonathan, can we take a break for a little bit" I ask. "Yeah I guess so" he answers. i smile and leave them in the training room.
I go up to the kitchen to get myself something to eat for lunch since i'm starving. I see Jace in here. "Hey, when do you think clary is going to be back" I ask as I open the fridge. "I don't know it could take her a while for all I know" he answers. "Oh" I say as I pull out the turkey for my turkey sandwich.
"How is training going" he asks. "Oh you heard about that" I ask. "Yeah, clary told me last night" he says. "It's going okay I guess, Its a lot harder than I thought it would be" i say. "Yeah its a lot of work. We all still train now even after we are already fully trained shadowhunters" he says. "Yeah" i say as i start making my turkey and cheese sandwich. I put some mustard on my sandwich and sit down at the table.
"Did you tell clary's mom and the others we are leaving soon" I ask. "Not yet" he says. I nod.
I take a bite of my turkey and cheese sandwich. "Is clary leaving straight from her interview to the photo shoot or is she coming back here" I ask. "She will probably come back here. I know she said its not until tonight. I'm going with her so she has to come back to get me anyway" Jace says. "Yeah" I say and finish my sandwich.
Clary POV
When it gets to be 3:30 I decide to try and make that rune for Jonathan. I start thinking of something. I need something to change an appearance. I close my eyes and see a rune. I start drawing it with my eyes still closed. When I feel my hand stop moving I open my eyes and look at the rune. I label it in my sketchbook. I close it.
I pull out my phone and text Reagan. 'Hey Reagan, it's Clary. Do I need to bring extra clothes for me and some for jace too for the photo shoot tonight' I ask and send the text. I know rick said I don't but I will ask her anyway. I walk out of the coffee shop and get in my car. I pull out and start heading back to the institute.
My phone goes off while I am driving. When I get to a red light I look at it. It says 'Hey clary. No we have clothes for you here. We are going to do the photo shoot here since Rick couldn't get anywhere else on such short notice. We probably won't take as much of you and jace so don't worry about bringing any for him' she says. I look up and the light turns green. I drive the rest of the way back.
I pull in the garage and text Reagan back and say 'thanks Reagan. What time should we be there?' I start walking in and go up the elevator. When I get up here I go to my bedroom and set my sketchbook on the table. I see Grace in her bed. She's awake just laying there. "Hello Grace" I say and I pick her up. She lays her head on my shoulder. "Your mommy and daddy will only be able to be here for a few hours then we have to leave, but we will be back baby" I say to her. She lays her head on my shoulder and lets out a deep breath.
My phone starts ringing. I answer it. "Hey clary, can you be here at like 5:30" I hear Reagan ask. "Oh hey Reagan, yes I think so. Just me and Jace need to come right" I ask. "Yes, and was he the one I met when we went to Italy" she asks. "Yes he's the one" I say. "I always knew you two would somehow end up. Oh and I almost forgot, mr. Carlson wanted to know how many sketches are you bringing so he can pay you for them" she asks me. "I have five that I was going to bring is that okay" I ask. "Yes that sounds great" she says. "Well, I've got to go tell Jace that we need to leave soon to head over there, I will see you soon" I say. "Okay, bye clary" she says. I hang up.
"Okay little girl, lets go tell your daddy that we have to leave soon" I say. I can tell she gets excited when I mention Jace because she gives and small squeal. I check her diaper before I leave the bedroom and change her diaper since it's wet. After that we head downstairs to look for Jace.
We find him in the kitchen. When Grace sees him she squeals. He looks over at her and smiles. She reaches for him. He takes her from me and she rests her head on his shoulder. "Someone really loves you" I say to Jace. "Yeah, I really love her too" he says.
"So when did you get here" he asks. "Not long ago. When I got back I went to put my sketchbook back upstairs in our room when I saw she was awake" I tell him. He nods and I sit down at the table he is sitting at. "So I was talking to reagan and she said to be there at 5:30" I tell him. "Where is it going to be" he asks. "I will have to show you. It's at the Sherri Hill building" I say. "Yeah I don't know where that is" he says. "That's why I will have to show you. The only ones I know who have been there was mom, Tessa and isabelle, and they didn't go inside, just dropped me off since I had to pick up my paycheck" I say. "Why did all of them go with you" he asks. "It was the day we went to get my wedding dress and they were all with me. You have probably seen the building before just didn't know that was it" I say. "Oh that makes sense I guess. I will go change and we can go" he says. I take Grace from him. She whimpers as she leaves his arms."Hey bring down my sketchbook too please" I ask. He gives me a thumbs up while he leaves the kitchen to go change.
Jonathan walks in. "hey clary" he says. "Hey Jonathan. How's training Alice" I ask. "A lot harder than I thought it would be. I mean the girl can barely hit the target once then we were practicing throwing daggers" he says. He opens the fridge and gets a water out and sits with me. "It is her first day. Give her time and she will get a hold of it"I say. "Yeah I guess" he says.
"Have you told mom we are leaving in a couple of days" I ask. "No, not yet" he says. "Oh well you might want to tell her tonight. I will have to tell Tessa since I know Logan will want to see me before we leave" I say. "Yeah I will, mom will probably be here soon to get me. When are you and Jace leaving" my brother asks me. "For the photo shoot" I ask. He nods. "In a few minutes. He went to go change and then we are heading over. We will probably get something to eat on the way back" I say. "Oh" he says. "Well I still want to hear how it goes and see pictures" he tells me. "You will, don't worry" I reassure him.
Jace walks in. "Are you ready to go" he asks me. "Yeah, here Jonathan can you take Grace" I ask. He takes her. "When you leave you can either give her to someone or put her in her bed before you go" I say. He nods and me and Jace go down to the garage. "Lets take my car you can drive though since I don't know where we are going" he says. He hands me his keys and I get in the drivers seat of the silver comaro. He gets in the passenger side and I pull out of the institute.
When we get to the tall Sherri hill building we both go inside. The man at the front desk sees me. "I haven't seen you in forever Clary" he says. "Oh hey Ethan. Yeah it's been a while. Can you tell me where the photo shoot is" I ask him. "Upstairs, top floor" he tells me. "Thanks" I say and me and jace go up to the elevator. "So Who was that" Jace asks. "Ethan. Don't worry he just works here" I say.
The doors open and the top floor is all set up. "Wow they are going all out for this" Jace says. "Yeah I guess so" I say. Reagan comes over. "Hey clary" she says and gives me a hug. "Okay so lets get you ready, we will do the pictures of you two last like we did last time" she says and pulls me away.
I get seated at a table and some people do my hair and makeup for the pictures. I don't like wearing makeup but right now I don't have a choice. I'm given my first outfit which is a white romper. I put it on and roll up the sleeves. I take a couple of pictures in this outfit before they get me ready in my next one. This time it's a black long sleeved shirt and red and black skirt. They give me some black heels and I put them on. They take a couple more pictures. The next outfit is a white sleeveless top with red pants. They get some more pictures. Next is a blue long sleeved shirt and black and white skirt. They do my hair and makeup and take some pictures. Next outfit they have me get in is a black and kinda white dress. They move my hair to the side so it's over my shoulder. They bring in a bunny which makes me so excited. I get to hold the bunny. They take some pictures of me and the bunny and just me in this outfit separate. The next outfit they give me a black shirt, red jacket, and jeans. They give me heels to wear. They take some pictures, I even go outside for some.
Next is a black and white crop top and skirt to match. Now they finally let me take pictures with jace."Ive got a great idea" Reagan says to the photographer. He looks at her. "Im getting a bit of a warrior Protector vibe from these two. How about we get some pictures of them like that then we can do normal ones" she suggests. He nods. They give us clothes to change into. We do and get some pictures. They get a bunch of the two of us together. "We want to get more of the two of you so can you two change into this and come back out" the photographer asks. I look at jace. He just shrugs. We take them and go change. Mine is a short little dress but it's not too short. I have some flats, thank God they are letting me wear flats for once. They take some more pictures and we finally get to change back into what we came in.
When I see Reagan I ask "Hey can I get a copy of some of those pictures?" "Oh yeah sure. I will just text them to you is that okay" she asks. "Yeah that's fine" I say. Rick comes up to me. "Hey clary" he says. "Hey rick. I got those sketches for you" I say. I look through my sketchbook and pull out the five designs and hand them to him. "Thank you. And here is the payment for them" he says and hands me and envelope. "Thanks. Well we should get going" I say. "Okay. It was good seeing you again. We should have the story and pictures on the website by tomorrow around noon" he tells me. "Okay sounds good" I say. I take Jaces hand and we leave the building.
"You want to go to takis for dinner" I ask him after we get in the car. "Yeah lets do it" he says. I start heading back and and we get to takis. We get there and sit down at a table. Kaelie ends up being our waitress. "Hi jacey, I didn't know you were in town" she says. "Yeah we are" I say. I know she was talking to Hace but she also was flirting with him. What is it with faeries and flirting with Jace. "Oh, she's here" she says disappointed. "Yeah I wouldn't come without her" Jace says. "I see that. Now what can I get you both to drink" she asks. "I will have a water" I say. "Me too" jace says. She leaves and comes back with our drinks. "Do you know what you are going to get" she asks. "Yeah I will get the fried mouse tails" Jace says. "I will have three coconut pancakes" I say. She takes the menus and leaves.
"What was in that envelope" Jace asks me. "Money for the sketches. It's probably not what my full paycheck was" I say. "How much did he give you" jace asks. I take the envelope out of my purse and open it. I count the money. "It's 2,500 dollars. So it was my check when I first started. It's not as much as I got after I had been working for a while" I say. "You mean your paycheck was more than that. That's crazy. How much was it" he asks. "I made like 66,000 every month so like 792 grand a year" I say. "Holy cow Clary. I didn't know you actually got paid that much. No wonder you loved your job" he says. "Yeah but I wasn't doing it for the money. Okay maybe a little since I needed it" I say. "You are paying for dinner" Jace says. I roll my eyes. (A/N: I know this is not really what fashion designers make a month but oh well)
Kaelie comes back with our food. When she leaves we both start eating. My phone starts vibrating. I look at it. Its the pictures from Reagan. I open the text and look at them. They look really good.
'The pictures turned out so good Reagan Thanks' I say and send the text. "Look at the pictures" I say and hand jace my phone. "They look so good. I knew they would" he says. He sends them to his phone and I get mine back. I save the pictures and finish my pancakes. Kaelie takes our empty plates and gives us the check. Jace slides it over to me. I take it and pay for our food and we talk for a little while before we leave. I start the car and drive the few blocks over to the institute.
I park and we walk inside. When we get inside we see Alice walk down the stairs. "We were wondering when you would get back. Did you guys get dinner" she asks. "Yeah we just got back from takis" I say. "Okay Good well I finally got Grace to go to sleep. She's been fussy ever since you two left" she says. "Thanks Alice" I say. "No problem" she says. "It's getting late, I'm going to head on up to bed" I tell them. It's already 11:00. The photo shoot ended at 9:00 and we stayed at takis for about and hour and a half. "Me too" Jace says. "I'm just getting something to drink then I will head on up" Alice says. Jace takes my hand and we head up to our room. We get ready for bed. "Will you read some" Jace asks. "Won't we wake up Grace" I ask him. "Nah, she sleeps like you" he says. "And what's that supposed to mean" I ask. "You both can sleep through a hurricane if we let you" he says. "True" I say. I pick up the book from beside me. "How far do you want me to go tonight" I ask. "You can just read like 2 or three chapters" he says.
I open the book and start reading. "'Don't tell your mother you've been gambling' mr. Weasley implored Fred and George as they all made their way slowly down the purple carpeted stairs. ..." I stop at chapter 11. "Wait so, viktor crum caught the snitch but his team didn't win" Jace asks. "Yeah" I say. "I thought if you caught the snitch you won" he asks. "No. If you catch it the games over. Your team gets 150 points but you don't always win" I tell him. "Okay and what was it with that mark in the sky? Why was his scar hurting" Jace asks. "You will have to wait and see" I say. "Ugh Fine. Lets go to bed" he says. "Okay" I say.
I set the book on the nightstand beside me. I lay down. He lays down too and we both go to sleep.
