CASEY HOME, CHICAGO; A WEEK EARLIER – SEPTEMBER 29, 2018
She was currently in the midst of packing her latest suitcase, her fourth by her count; the suitcases that she and the man she loves are going to be bringing with them on their trip, a trip that they hope will do them some good. Over the past couple months, the relationship that she's had with the man of her dreams has been horrible; and that worries her. It worries her that she may in fact lose the man of her dreams over something that she wants to give him more than anything in the entire world. And that's a child, children that they can raise together. But unfortunately, she can't; as it's too risky for her to be pregnant with her aneurysm. God, the fight that the couple had a couple months ago is still in her mind every single day. Especially that horrible thing that he told her, how she can't have kids. But that was not what she was trying to concentrate on at the moment. Rather, Gabby was trying to concentrate on the fact that she and Matt are going to save their marriage, which is something that she wants to do more than anything in the entire world. She loves Matt, and he loves her too.

It's going to be so nice to be away from Chicago, and Sylvie Brett. God, the way that paramedic treated her was just horrible. But she's forgiven her, she had to. She can't keep the hate in, as she knows that she was partially to blame. She went onto the call with a bunch of bad thoughts in her mind, and that wasn't fair to her. She needed to have her at her best, and she wasn't at her best at the time. Rather, she was at her worst; and their patients didn't deserve that. And it was all due to that stupid fight that she and Matt were having that day. The fight about something that the couple really need to talk about. How they plan on having children. And they definitely will have a chance to do that. The reason Gabby is so sure of that fact? Well, it's due to the fact that (as we just said); they're getting away together. And the trip that they're taking isn't just going to be this short trip that's going to be easy on the both of them. Rather, the trip will be for months. Just her, and the man she loves more than anything in the entire world together for months; stuck in a van. An RV to be precise.

Yes, Matt and Gabby have decided to take an RV trip together so that they can just get away; get away and save their marriage. And, while at first she was a bit hesitant (since she was originally planning to go back to Puerto Rico), she agreed to it when Matt made her realized that she belongs with him; and that he would literally do anything for them to be together. So, that's exactly what they're going to do. They're going to do whatever it takes for them to be together, and they are going to just take a bunch of time away. Time to enjoy each other's company and see the United States. That's going to be a lot of fun, and she has a feeling that Matt is just as excited as she is for their trip that they are going to take together for months; heck, they may even be gone for years. But that was going to be fine, as it's what they need to do. They've never taken a honeymoon, and they just need to get away with each other. And this sounds like a lot of fun. That's when Gabby heard her loving husband walk into the bedroom this morning to see her packing. "I can see you smiling."

Looking up at the man of her dreams, Gabby smiled as she agreed with him. "Yeah, I'm smiling." Matt nodded when he heard Gabby say that, really happy over the fact that she's smiling right now. He then proceeded to carry over the other suitcase that he recently went out and purchased for their trip, him needing another suitcase for more clothes. "So, did you already get the RV that we rented?" Matt agreed with Gabby when she said that, smiling at her. "Yeah, I did. And I already made sure that I learned how to attach the car to it." Setting their suitcases down on the bed, Matt smiled as he looked at his beautiful wife; glad that she was here with him rather than elsewhere. He wants her here with him, and he wants to be her husband. Walking up to her, Matt smiled due to the fact that this is what he wants in life. He wants to be with the woman of his dreams, and he wants to be madly in love with her each and every day for the rest of his life; and she is well aware of that fact. That's why she's here, and why she's not going back to Puerto Rico. Rather, she's going to stay.

Well, after they get away and just explore a bit. Looking down into his wife's eyes, Matt smiled at her as he wrapped his arms around her waist. Putting her hands on Matt's arms, Gabby smiled as she looked up at him; quite happy due to the fact that she's back in her husband's arms. The arms that she will be in for the rest of her life. Stepping close to him, Gabby smiled as she leaned up and kissed him softly. Taking things nice and slow with Matt, she smirked due to the fact that her husband is extremely handsome. "I love you." Matt agreed with Gabby when she told him that she loved him, and he knows that for a fact as he loves her too. And that's why he's agreed to get away for a while, so that they can make sure that they fix their marriage; and they can have fun with each other. Matt's never really explored the United States, and he wants to do it with his beautiful wife as they talk and fix their marriage. Putting his hand on her neck, Matt smiled as he stroked her cheek and stared into her eyes. He then bent down and smiled. "I already called everybody here for lunch.  Then, we can talk to Chief and everybody. I hope it's okay that we do it here rather than at Molly's?" Gabby agreed with Matt.

"I think that'd be a good idea. Means that we can really explain just why we're doing this, and we can make sure that everybody knows that we're doing this because we really want to concentrate on saving our marriage before we worry about something else." Matt agreed with Gabby when she said that, smiling as that was exactly what he was thinking as well; the optics of them "running away" for a while. But the truth is, they need to do this; they need to do this both for themselves, and for the sake of their marriage. They've never been on a honeymoon, and they've never just gotten away as husband and wife; and that's something that Matt needs to remedy. But, at the same time, he could see that Gabby had something on her mind. "You okay Gabby? Remember what we promised each other, complete honesty." Gabby agreed with her loving husband when he told her that, sighing as she proceeded to lead him to their bed so that they can sit down.

Following Gabby this afternoon, Matt smiled due to the fact that this is exactly what he wants in life; he wants to be Gabby's husband, and he wants to be with her until the end of times. But right now, they just need to take it easy and relax with each other; and that's something that Gabby has agreed to do. And she's also agreed to not push a baby for a while. While Matt has agreed that they would look at all of their options, including her getting pregnant, they agreed that they would not get pregnant this year; or for a while. Rather, they are just going to concentrate on having fun for a while; which is something that they've never done in their marriage. When they were first married, they had to deal with Louie and Andre. Then they had her dad living with them, followed by him saying goodbye (horrible idea), add in the Bria situation, and then the aneurysm; their life has been non-stop since they got married, so they need to take it easy and relax for now. So, they were going to take a trip together that didn't involve flying anywhere; but that didn't mean they weren't driving.

In fact, Matt planned on driving everywhere, as Gabby would much rather ride along rather than fly. But still, that's going to just be nice, and he can't want to get this journey started in a few days. But right now, he needs to talk to Gabby as they sit down in bed together. That's how he's going to make sure that she relaxes and takes it easy as they start this journey.

Matt's POV:
Once me and Gabby sat down in bed together, I smiled as she came to cuddle up to me and just wrapped her arms around my torso. And I have to say, this is very comfortable and exactly what I want to be doing right now. I am so glad that Gabby is here with me right now, as there is nowhere else I would rather have her other than in my arms where we can be with each other for the rest of our lives. Turning my head, I smiled as I kissed her forehead softly this morning. "People will be getting here in about an hour for lunch. I told them that we'd have pizza...and that we want to talk to them about something." Gabby agreed with me when I said that, smiling. "Do you think they're going to understand?" I looked down at Gabby when she asked me that, smiling before nodding. "I think they will definitely agree with our decision to get away and have time with each other. Just look up at me for a second, okay babe?" Gabby agreed with me as I told her that.

She then smiled due to the fact that she loves how we're currently sitting together. I am so comfortable here, and this is what I want to do for the rest of my life. "Gabby, I want us to be honest with our friends. I want us to tell them that we've been having trouble. I want them to know that, so that we don't look like the perfect couple." Gabby agreed with me when I said that, smiling. "Oh, we definitely aren't that considering I fought with my husband over having a baby." I agreed with Gabby when she told me that, taking a breath. "You know that I still regret saying those things to you each and every day right babe?" Gabby agreed with me when I told her that. "Hey, of course I know that Matt. I promise that I know that. You have told me every since I got back that you regret saying those things." I took a breath and sighed. "You just need to remember that we need to keep you safe. I can't lose you babe, I can't lose another woman I love like crazy."

Gabby agreed with me when I said that. "I want to talk about it more in depth on the road though baby. I know you just glanced over it, but you need to talk to me. Heck, we have to have so many conversations." I agreed with Gabby when she told me that, smiling at her. "And that's exactly why we're taking this trip. So that we can have some time together where we can have those conversations, conversations that we probably should've had before you left to go to Puerto Rico." Gabby took a breath when I mentioned Puerto Rico, that topic still being a sore spot between the both of us. "Are you mad that I went to Puerto Rico?" I shook my head when Gabby asked me that. "I think, in the long run, it saved us. It made me realize just how much I want to be with you, and how much I really miss you when you're gone. But baby, we really need to talk about a lot of things; and that's why we're going on this trip. To talk and work things out away from Chicago."

Gabby smiled at me when I said that. "And to explore the country. God, I am already having a bucket list. I want to go to New York City, see the Empire State Building, One World Trade Center, the museum." I agreed with Gabby when she told me that. "I already got some tickets for that from Jay Halstead. He gets discounts as a veteran." Gabby smiled when Is aid that. "God, you are the best husband in the entire world." I sighed when I heard Gabby say that. "Matt, don't even go there. You are the best husband in the entire world, that's a fact." I took a breath and just sighed when I heard Gabby tell me that. "Promise me that we talk about everything? Gabby, I want to be with you forever. I want this to work, I want us to work." Gabby agreed with me when I told her that I want us to work, which I want more than anything in the entire world. "Baby, I feel the same way. And there's nothing more important to me than us fixing what's wrong with the both of us."

I agreed with Gabby when she told me that, smiling due to the fact that my girl truly is an amazing woman. Leaning in, I smiled as I proceeded to kiss her softly. "No regrets in not going back to Puerto Rico?" Gabby shook her head, smiling at me. "None at all." I smiled and agreed with her when she told me that, feeling her cuddle up to me some more. Rubbing her back, I smiled. "I can't wait to see you in that bikini you said you wore to tan." Gabby laughed when I said that. "I packed it." I agreed with her when she told me that, kissing her forehead softly. "When do you want to leave anyways?" Gabby smiled at me when I asked her that. "How about first, we have our get together with our friends? Then, we can figure that out." I agreed with Gabby when she told me that, smiling as I kissed her forehead again. "I just hope that they aren't mad when we tell them that we're going to be leaving for a while." Gabby shook her head. "They won't be, I promise baby."
XXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

"So, here's the thing guys; me and Gabby have decided to get away for a while so that we can work on our marriage." Their friends were absolutely stunned when they heard Matt tell them that (1) they've decided to get away, and (2) that they need to work on their marriage; at least, that was how Matt interpreted what Boden said to them (as he spoke for the group). "Sorry, what? I am so confused. Matt, are you..." Matt took a breath as he looked at the rest of the house, everybody currently in the midst of sitting in their living room. With his hand in Gabby's lap, he turned to look at her as he was worried about how much information that she wanted to share with their friends. Turning her head to look at her loving husband as well, Gabby took a breath and sighed before listening to Matt. "Do you want to tell them why you left in the first place?" Gabby thought about it, before nodding as she turned her head to look at all of their friends (family) again. "How about you guys all gather around with your lunches, and I can tell you what's been going on for a few months?"

The entire house agreed with Gabby when she said that, well aware of the fact that when Gabby Dawson tells you that she needs to talk to you; then you need to listen to her. And let's just say that there truly is a lot to fill them in on, starting with some of the stuff that's been happening recently. "God, where to begin?" Matt took a breath, turning his head to look at his wife as he decided to offer her a place to start. "Babe, how about you start with that news we got from the doctor? I think we can both agree that's the real event that started our problems." Gabby sighed, agreeing with her loving husband when he said that. Meanwhile, Herrmann just looked at the woman whom he's seen as a daughter for years, sitting on one of the recliners that they have in their home; meanwhile, Kelly and Stella are sitting at his feet together. "What's wrong Gabby? You seem down. And what's this about a doctor? What's wrong? Wait, are you sick? Is that why you're leaving? Like a..."

Gabby was shocked when she heard Herrmann try and say that this was like a last trip for her. "Oh my god, no Herrmann. That's not at all what I'm talking about when I say that. I promise." Gabby took a breath as she turned to look at the people that, for the longest time, she's considered family. "The truth is, I have a serious health problem from when I was pregnant a couple years ago." Ritter turned his head, and just looked at the captain when he heard his wife say that she was pregnant before. "Captain, do you have a kid? Wait, oh god. Is that..." Matt just shook his head, sighing. "Babe, Ritter doesn't k now what you're talking about. Want to fill everybody in on what happened? Or at least remind them?" Gabby agreed with Matt, proceeding to do just that. "Ok. So last time I was pregnant, you know I lost the baby. But that's not all that happened." Everybody then just looked at Gabby, letting her explain what happened the last time she was pregnant.

"The truth was, there was never a baby. I had something called an ectopic pregnancy. It meant that the baby was growing outside my uterus, so the baby wasn't viable." Everybody nodded as Gabby said that. "But, when I had that pregnancy; it had a side effect. It created an aneurysm on my right iliac artery. And that's why it's dangerous if I get pregnant, as it means that I could die while I'm pregnant." Everybody was shocked when Gabby said that, just looking at her; because that's shocking. I mean, how can that even be far to someone? Just because a woman wants to get pregnant, she has to put her life on the line? That's never fair. But right now, that's not what they are going to concentrate on. Rather, they're going to concentrate on the future. "So, we just need to take some time away; and we need to figure stuff out and be together." Boden looked at Gabby when she said that, completely understanding why that's the case. "Of course, Gabby, I get it."

Matt smiled and agreed with Boden when he said that, looking at his Chief as he loves the fact that they are currently in the midst of sitting with all of the people that they love; the people that are being so supportive right now, as it means that they are going to be able to just relax and take it easy; and Boden is going to be able to help him when it comes to work. "Boden, it goes without saying but, I think that I'm going to need to take some time off? But the truth is, I have no idea how long..." Boden just looked at his Captain when he said that, smiling as he looked at his Captain. "Hey, don't worry about it Matt. You and Gabby need to take some time. I promise that we can figure it out. But I will definitely make sure that you go on paid leave, so that you can have money to enjoy yourselves. I think we can all agree that after all you guys have been through, you guys deserve it; and that includes with Louie and everything." Matt agreed with Boden when he said that.

"Thanks so much Boden, I appreciate that." Boden nodded and just smirked as he looked at the couple whom have been a lot, glad that they are both going to be getting away. Gabby then looked at Matt, smiling as she turned to look at the man of her dreams. Afterwards, she proceeded to grab his hand and just smiled as she intertwined their fingers. Holding the man of her dreams close to her, she smiled due to the fact that they're both together right now. And that's going to be forever.

Gabby's POV:
Standing in me and Matt's room shortly after we finished talking to our friends (and getting Boden to make sure Matt gets some time off), I smiled as I went ahead and started to pack some of Matt's sweats; and I'm really glad that our friends are all going to be supportive of the fact that we just need to take time away so that we can concentrate on our marriage. That's when I heard Matt walk into our room. "So, we're doing this?" Turning around to look at my loving husband, I smirked as I'm glad that we both agreed that this is what we're doing. We're going to get away and just take some time away together. We're going to be together as husband and wife, which is exactly what we need to do. And we both know that's a fact. God, I can't wait to just be alone with my husband on the road. Walking over to me, Matt smirked as he watched me lean against the end of our bed. Getting nice and close to me, Matt smirked as he put his hand on my side.

He then tugged me against his chest while putting his hand on my neck. Putting one of my hands on his chest, and my other hand on his back; I smirked due to the fact that I'm very happy with Matt right now. Leaning in, I smiled as I kissed the man of my dreams. "I love you." Matt agreed with me when I said that, smiling at me. "I love you too. And I am so glad that we're doing this. This is exactly what we need, to just get away and be with each other." I nodded, smiling at Matt when he told me that, because that was the truth. "I can't wait for that to happen. I know that this is going to go fast, but I think we just need to do it." Matt agreed with me when I said that, smiling at me as I wrapped my arms around his waist. Putting his hands on my arms, Matt just smiled as he looked at me. "I'm glad that we're getting away too. This is perfect, and there's nothing more I want to do other than that you away; then we can work on our marriage, and just be together."

I agreed with Matt when he said that, smiling as I laid my head down on his shoulder. Afterwards, Matt kissed my shoulder while moving his hands to my back. He then rubbed my back and just smirked due to the fact that we're both  happy with each other. "I can't wait. But listen, we need to get to work. We need to pack, and we also need to get an RV and everything." I agreed with Matt when he said that, smiling as I leaned back to look at my handsome husband. Getting close to him, I wrapped my arms around his body and then smirked as I leaned up and proceeded to kiss the man of my dreams. God, I love him so much; and I am so glad that we're going to get away. "Listen, how about we just take it one step at a time. How about we start with getting an RV? Then, we know how much we can bring." Matt nodded and smiled as he put his hand on the side of my face. He then bent down and kissed me softly, just taking things nice and slow with her.

Taking things nice and slow with my loving husband, I smiled as we both got ready to go on a nice trip together.
