"listen you look better in bolder colors. beige isn't going to cut it." chris sighs with a face palm as he grabs the beige dress out of my hands and hanging it back up. i do a small pouty face getting a shake of the head from him. "that's clown shit" he sighs again making me laugh. "red, black...yellow and oh my God. Blue." he gives me an over exaggerated gasp when the color comes to mind. "nia!!" he shouts from across the store causing several heads to turn in our direction. i feel my face slightly heat up as i watch nia make her way over to us.
she has three dresses in her hand, holing them up some so they wouldn't drag on the ground. "chris" she says his name with enthusiasm. "look at how cute these are" she smiles, shoving them in his chest. he grabs them and looks through them and his eyes light up at the light pink one. "this is so cute. it's so you. sam would love it. the color would look cute on him like as the tie or something." he rambles causing me to raise my eyebrows. "sam?" i ask confused as to what that meant. "he asked me to prom the other day" nia says like i should have known. i didn't. "why am i just finishing out?" i whine, wishing i knew the news quicker than i did. "well he just asked me in front of chris and we've all been so busy i haven't had the time to tell you." she sighs, looking back down at the light pink dress. she has a point, we all have been kind of busy with our own lives the past week. we've barely had time to hang out. senior year, boys, and family plans have taken us over.
"well how do you feel about it?" i ask her, moving my hand up to the rack to look through some more dresses. she stays quiet for a second then sighs. " i actually feel like i'm going to enjoy it this year. i think it's going to be fun. in plus you'll finally be there this year." she smiles, placing her hand on my shoulders giving me an excited shake. "i wish you went last year, it was so much fun cin" chris tells me making me let out a small laugh. "why didn't you, you should have." he adds.
"and be both of your third wheels... i don't think so" i laugh, shaking my head. despite how much i love them, chris and nia are the absolute worst people to third wheel. they basically forget about you when you're with them and just stick with their boyfriends. it's extremely awkward and dreadful. from experience, if they're ever with jack and i... i try my very best to keep them feeling like their included. i've always hated the feeling so i try my best not to let them feel like it.
"you so could have asked anyone in school and they would have said yes. you're just too oblivious to see that you actually turn more heads than you think." nia smirks at me. i shake my head again, disagreeing with her. "if i did, jack wouldn't have been my first boyfriend" i state. "anyways, what color do you think would look best. i want to look perfect for this night." i change the subject, starting to sound like every basic teenager but it's true, it's my first and sadly my last prom, i want it to be perfect and memorable. "oh right! nia how about a dark maybe royal blue on her..." chris' eyes widen, remembering what he called nia over for.
"i was thinking black." she winces, hating to disagree with chris. "how about we get her black and blue dresses and see which ones she likes better and which one she feels more confident in." she suggests making him nod. "that sounds perfect. ugh i love shopping with you guys" he smiles at both of us making us smile in response. "now let's get you the perfect dress for the perfect night"

"i need a size bigger." i laugh, looking at chris and nia's reflections in the mirror. they stand up and help me take off the blue dress. "no you don't, that's not the one"chris shakes his head at me making me laugh some. i'm glad he agreed. i honestly wasn't feeling it from the first glance and i doubt i would have fell in love with it on me. "try on the red one." nia smiles excitedly when it's off of me. "Jack looks so good in this color" i smile as i slide it on. i honestly hope i find a red one tonight. he always tells me black and red are my colors, either one would work but i love how red looks on him over black. "you both do" chris nods making nia nod in agreement.
"can you help me zip it up?" i ask causing nia to stand up and run over to me. she had just been gushing over how much she loves shopping for dresses and she's happy that i'm here with them finding one for me this time. i smile as she steps back after zipping it up. i smile in the mirror and i hear a gasp from chris. "that is so cute." nia whines, loving the look of it. "i really like it" i admit, looking at myself with a smile. "it suites you." chris nods. i look next to him and see the black one, debating on if i should even try it on from how much i love this one. "let's see how the black one looks" i suggest with an uninterested shrug. nia stands up again to help me unzip the dress making me find my self not wanting to take it off.
i slide that one off and grab the black one from chris' hands and stepping into it. almost immediately he stands up with wide eyes. "i can feel it. this.. this is the one" he says, his eyes were glowing which made me laugh some at how into it he was. i stop looking at him and look at myself when nia finished zipping it up. i soon found myself making the same face he did. i absolutely loved this one. forget about not wanting to take off the red one, i could actually live in this black one. "that's hot!" nia smiles with a clap of the hands. "and to think i almost decided not to try it on" i think out loud making them laugh some. "thankfully you did. it fits all of your curves." chris explains. "it's perfect" i say, still staring at myself.
