Chapter 29 - Patient Zero

Time: 7:00 PM (Saturday)

Sa tindi ng security features ng bahay nila Che, confident ako na safe na safe ang lugar na ito. Tinawagan ko agad si daddy, but I am always routed to his voicemail.

"Baka nasa underground base ang daddy mo, kaya di niya narereceive yung call mo. I am sure tatawag siya bukas. He will tell us the safest route from here to the port. Teka, asan si Savannah?" tanong ni Kio na nakatutok na naman sa laptop.

"Maliligo daw muna siya. Yung dalawa naman nasa kusina. I feel sticky and sweaty, sabay na tayo maligo, Kio."

"Wwhat? No way!" gulat na sabi ni Kio.

What the fuck! We are both guys! Anong masama kung sabay kami maligo?

"Kio, sabay na tayo para mabilis. Sige na please?" pang-aasar ko lalo sa kanya dahil masyado siyang affected sa sinabi ko.

"The answer is no! Over my dead gorgeous body!" sabi ni Kio sabay takip ng dalawang kamay sa dibdib niya as if naman may balak ako pagsamantalahan siya.

Wala kang dibdib, Kio. Gusto mo ba magkaroon?

"Alright, alright. After Savannah, susunod na ako sa kanya maligo. Do you think there is something going on between Che and Shen?" change topic ko.

"Che is probably being nice to her. Alam niya na umiyak si Sienna kanina dahil sa kanya."

"There is something fishy about those two."

"Kababata mo si Shen at barkada mo si Che. Ako naman ay matalik kong kaibigan si Shen. Alam natin pareho na may something fishy sa kanilang dalawa noon pa."

Kio is right. Kahit palagi nag-aaway si Shen at Che, we can always see the attraction between them. I wonder how my childhood friend will accept the fact that Che is already taken by someone else.

"Kio, I am aware that both of them love and hate each other at the same time. What I mean is, do you think they are... romantically involved with each other now? Sabay kaya sila naligo?"

"I don't know, malaki na silang dalawa. Ikaw talaga, napaka tsismoso mo!"

Herschel is one of my closest buddies. Si Sienna naman ang pinakamalapit kong kaibigan na babae. If Sienna will find out about Misty, sigurado ako na masasaktan ang kaibigan ko.

"Teka, anong balita dyan sa laptop mo?" tanong ko kay Kio.

Hinarap ni Kio ang laptop niya sa akin para makita ko ang iba't ibang news at updates regarding sa mga zombies. There is a detailed graph ng mga countries at ang mga approximate number of infected humans. Meron din mga lists ng lugar na safe at yung mga lugar na overrun na ng zombies. Australia, Canada and some parts of Northern Europe are relatively safe. Marami rin survivors sa northern part ng US.

"Swerte ang Aldridge City dahil malapit tayo sa military base. Madami ang survivors na nasa Aquinas Island na ngayon, pero madami pa din ang infected. This only means na madami pa rin tayo pwede makasalubong na walkers bukas," sabi ni Kio habang nakatingin pa din sa laptop.

"Any idea how this shit started?" tanong ko sa kanya.

With Kio's dark framed eyeglasses, he looks like a typical nerd. Pero maraming babae pa rin ang humahabol sa kanya dahil sa kanyang good looks and fair skin na namana niya sa kanyang Japanese mother. He is skinny, tall and smart. If he wants to have a lot of girlfriends, marami ang willling na mag-aapply. And yet, Kio never give any shit about these girls. 

I have a feeling kung bakit....

I noticed na may maliit na window sa screen ng laptop niya na mabilis niyang tinago. Kung tama ako, he is chatting with someone else.

Baka girlfriend or boyfriend?

"No one is giving an official statement, but it seems that the Patient Zero were scattered all around the world. Sabay sabay nagkaroon ng chaos dahil maraming Patient Zero. Within just a few hours, almost one fourth na ng world population ang infected. As of now, di ko alam kung ilan ang survivors at ilan ang total ng mga infected.

"Wait, look at that part," turo ko sa laptop screen ni Kio.

"A very high possibility that the mysterious virus now known as Z Virus is a genetically modified and constructed artificially in the laboratory."

"Sinong may sira sa tuktok ang gagawa ng virus para mag wiped-out ang human population?" tanong ko kay Kio.

"Mad scientists? Alam mo naman yung ibang matatalino, sawa na sa buhay nila. Gusto ng zombie apocalypse para mas may thrill daw."

"Z Virus, killing more than a quarter of the world's population, is rapidly infecting the rest of the world. No known cure to stop this lethal virus."

"We don't even know if this is viral or bacterial. Hindi nga natin alam ang kahit ano about this Z Virus. I hope the Aquinas Island can enlighten us," sabi ni Kio.

If Z Virus was constructed inside a laboratory, it means na sinadya ang pagkakaroon ng zombie apocalypse. Dahil maraming Patient Zero sa buong mundo, it is highly possible that someone deliberately scattered these Patient Zeroes to maximize the spread of the virus.

Kailangan makarating agad kami sa Aquinas Island. We will find our answers there...
