Magnus had planned a whole day out for them as a surprise for Alec getting a new sweater. Normally that wouldn't be a big deal but with Alec it was. He hadn't bought new clothes since well forever and Magnus loved having celebrations especially if he could embarrass Alec.

They had been dating for a couple months now and Alec still blushed everytime Magnus treated him like he was the important. That had been something Magnus did a lot because he loved Alec and hated seeing him doubt himself. It wasn't even a lack of self esteem; it was that Alec held others to such different standards. Plus , it didn't help that his siblings were both beautiful and knew it. Which gave Magnus the job to prove to Alec just how beautiful and deserving of a perfect life he was.

Alexander's beauty was in his holy sweaters and faded pants, his messy dark hair and innocent blue eyes, his guilty smile and selfless actions.

"Where are we going?" Alec pouted.

"You better pull that lip back or it's going to get bitten, Alexander." Magnus tsked him and Alec blushed.

"That's better. Now why don't you be a dear and put your boots on so we can go?" Magnus flicked his hand at Alec from the couch he was lounging across.

"I'll need boots?" Alec said as he thought out loud. "So it'll be somewhere outside. Hmm."

"Alexander, stop trying to guess and let the surprise happen." Magnus chuckled, his Nephilim, would get used to surprises if it killed him.

"Fine. Surprise me. I don't care." Alec grumbled as he got his boots on and stood up to Magnus wrapping a bright blue scarf around his neck. A couple weeks ago he would have jumped and possibly hit Magnus, but he was becoming accustomed to Magnus's more affectionate touchy side.

"You're so cute when you're annoyed." Magnus kissed his cheek then flitted away to the door. "Coming?"

"Do I have a choice?" Alec tried to glare but the smile broke through.

"I suppose you could stay here and I can go enjoy the surprise by myself." Magnus rolled his hand causing a small blue flame to spark alive then dissipate into smoke.

"You'd like that wouldn't you?" Alec frowned.

"Alexander, I will always choose you." Magnus gave him a serious look then smiled. "Now off we go my beauty. Damn that scarf is perfect on you."

They portaled because it was easier and faster but Magnus made sure to pull the scarf over Alec's eyes so he couldn't see.

"Is this necessary. I won't look." Alec groaned but Magnus could hear the excitement in his voice.

"Yes." He pushed Alec lightly so he'd start walking. He was so cute as he walked on full of trust in Magnus. He didn't even falter when he could hear people rushing around them. He just kept going.

"Ready for your surprise sweetie?" Magnus whispered into Alec's ear.

"By the angel, you know I am." Alec demanded.

Without warning Magnus pulled the scarf down so Alec could see. Alec blinked a couple of times because of the sudden brightness but when his eyes adjusted his jaw dropped. They were at an outdoor ice staking rink. It was beautiful with the score all around them and the families and couples staking.

"Surprise Alexander!" Magnus hugged him then took his hand so he could lead him to a bench. Magnus could have magiced their skates onto their feet but instead he took his time lacing up Alec's before his own.

"Magnus I don't know how to skate." Alec admitted with a rare look of fear. Alec never really had time to do things that were fun like this, it was always things that connected to killing demons.

"Don't worry my darling, I've got you." And with that Magnus grabbed Alec's hands, yanked him to his feet, and dragged him to the edge of the rink.

Magnus stepped onto the ice backwards while still holding onto Alec's hands.

Alec took a deep breath and stepped tenderly onto the ice. His foot slipped and he jumped back to solid ground.

"You know what? I think I'll just watch you. Yeah, that'll be fun." Alec tried to back away.

"Oh no you don't." Magnus yanked on his hands and pulled Alec against him. He had to shift a little but he was able to hold them both up as Alec's hands slid to Magnus's waist out of fear.

"Magnus I'm gonna fall." Alec hissed against his neck. Magnus would have laughed at the cute scene of his strong warrior clutching to him but he knew better than that. He'd do it later when he was reliving the moment.

Instead he gently reached back to Alec's clasped hands and pried them apart. "Alexander you are not going to fall."

Alec didn't say anything, he just nodded with determination and took a couple cautious steps back so he was half an arms length away from Magnus.

"Alright, now that you can stand on the ice we're going to start moving, slowly." Magnus said as he started to very slowly skate backwards. Alec begrudgingly followed him. His feet sometimes moved too fast which would make him fling forward but Magnus stayed patient and held him up.

Of course, it helped that he had magic and centuries of experience on his side. After going around the entire rink like this Alec finally started smiling. He grinned from ear to ear as Magnus dropped his hands then did a little spin.

"Ready to try it on your own?" Magnus asked with a wink.

"I think so." Alec skated cautiously with feet that shook just a tiny bit then started to pick up speed. Magnus stayed right there with him and saw Alec's eyes get huge as he continued to go faster.

"Um Magnus?" Alec exclaimed.

"Yes dear?" Magnus did another twirl.

"I don't know how to stop. How do I stop? Do I just keep going? Am I going to be stuck like this? Are you using magic? How do I get off of here?" Alec was sputtering words out so fast that Magnus could barely understand him. When he did though he couldn't help it; he laughed. He laughed so hard it brought tears to his eyes.

"This isn't funny Magnus!" Alec's voice cracked a little at the end as Magnus became a shriek. Alec stuck his hands out in front of him.

"But it is my pet, it really is." Magnus said through his laughter. But he finally took pity on the boy and grabbed his hands so he could slow his skating until they got to the edge and he helped Alec step onto solid ground.

"I'm not sure how I feel about that." Alec said grateful to be sitting on the bench again.

"Awe, you loved it." Magnus touched his red cheek. "And I loved watching you."

"Watching me make a fool of myself?" Alec mumbled.

"No, watching you relax and have fun. It's a rare thing for you." Magnus lifted Alec's chin with a finger and gave him a quick peck on the lips. "Shall we give it another go?"

Alec smiled, how could he not. Magnus was so patient with him and acted like it was a treat for himself rather than for Alec. He took Magnus's outstretched hands and followed him back onto the ice. Maybe he'd buy new sweaters more often.
