A couple weeks later..

A couple days after mom called me about the new Hunter, she called again to let me know that he had been killed, and not to worry anymore. She told me Klaus had been in a bad mood ever since. So, we stayed away. "So, how'd the Ms. Mystic Falls Pageant go?" I ask with a smirk. "April Young won it this year, Pastor Young's daughter." Mom explains. "Oh yeah? Good for her, bet she could use the good news, what with everything she's gone through." I say. "Yeah.." Mom says with a sigh. Hearing this, I tilt my head curiously. "Something wrong?" I ask concerned. Mom's silent for a few seconds, before speaking. "Yeah, it's just...have you spoken to your brother recently?" She asks. "I've tried, but he's always had a tendency to 'forget' to call me back." I say, less-than-pleased.

"Your brother's been acting strange, lately. Ever since that girl who helped him break his Sire Bond showed up, he comes home late, almost every night lately." Mom says. Remembering mom had mentioned this girl before, I sigh. Hayley, was it..? Shaking my head, I speak. "Well, you said so yourself, she's his type. I'm sure he's fine. He's just being a typical teenager like always. They're probably hooking up somewhere, or something." I say, rolling my eyes. Mom mentioned he and Caroline got into a big fight, shortly after Hayley got there, so...it wouldn't be too far of a reach.. "I suppose you're right.." Mom says, sighing quietly. "I'm sure he's fine, mom. Try not to sweat it too much." I say reassuringly.

After a few moments of silence, she speaks. "You're probably right, I just, I wish he wouldn't be so secretive, I mean, if he's with Hayley, then he should say so, instead of hiding it from me.." mom says. "I know, but he's a guy, mom. Guys typically don't like to tell their parents about who they're hooking up with. It's just how they are." I say, waving it off. "I know, I know, I'll let it go...for now." She says. Hearing this, I laugh quietly. "Anyway, enough about that. Let's talk about something else. Like, how've you been doing? I trust you two are somewhere safe?" Mom asks. "Oh yeah, we're fine, you don't have to worry about that. We're managing just fine, I promise." I assure her. "Mhmm...just, managing?" Mom asks, a certain hint of something in her voice. Hearing her tone, I laugh quietly. "I know that tone, mom. What are you implying?" I ask, rolling my eyes in amusement. "Oh, nothing really, it's just...well, you two have been through so much together.." Mom says, the same tone. Well, well, isn't she nosey.. As I'm scoffing in amusement, the sound of footsteps coming into the living room catch my attention.
