Chapter 41

I need you Jess, why aren't you here right now?

The plate drops from my hands as I'm drying it "Jess? Jess are you ok?" Is all I can hear Bucky say but I'm so zoned out I can't bring myself to answer

"Hey!" He shakes me and brings me back

"Peter" I breathe out and poor Bucky looks at me like I've suffered a psychotic break

"What about Peter?"

"He spoke to me, he needs me" I pull away and scramble to find my phone, frantically throwing pillows around in my search

"Ok, let's slow down" He holds onto my shoulders and gently guides me to the sofa "Walk me through it"

"I was just drying the plate and I must've forgotten about the open channel I have with Peter because he said 'I need you Jess, why aren't you here right now?' and I was shocked and must've dropped the plate" I ramble, making sure I'm absolutely thorough

"Did he say anything else?" Bucky asks as he rubs my back softly for comfort, a strategy for keeping me in the here and now

"Nope, just that... I need to go back right, he needs me" I look at Bucky, searching his eyes like they'll tell me what to do

"That's completely up to you Jess, you can call him, mind talk or whatever, go back to New York, bring him here... it's all up to you, you get to choose"

I know what he's doing and honestly I can't thank him enough for it. He's giving me the power, the control over the situation because he knows that, that is something I've had stripped from me. I doesn't help me much with the actual decision making, right now I want nothing more than for him to decide for me

"It's too late in New York but if he spoke to me that means he is awake, but I don't know if he meant to speak to me or not- if he wanted me to hear"

"You could talk to him, say something back... let him know you're there for him whenever he needs you"

I smile at him before resting my head on his shoulder "I'm so glad you're here with me Bucky" I whisper as I close my eyes

"Me too Doll"

Peter, if you can hear me right now I want you to know that I'm here for you always. This channel between you and I is always open

You heard me? I get back a few seconds later

Always Pete, you're my little brother and I need you just as much as you need me

God I miss you Jess

I miss you too

I Know you're in London, don't worry I won't say anything to your dad but I just thought you should know I worked it out

You're so clever Pete, yes I am and I would appreciate it if you don't tell my dad or anyone else. I'm close to being done with therapy and if I feel ready then I'll come back
