"Rise and shine, love."

The smell of food was the first thing you woke up to on the chilly morning of September.

Your eyes adjusted as the sun hits your face, the curtains all folded up, unfortunately. You couldn't help but let out a groan before stretching your arms and letting out a hum afterward. Ah right, you fell asleep at C/N's house.

You remembered that you were supposed to go home after work but they had insisted you stay at theirs since it was just a few blocks away from your workplace.

Plus, they knew you had worked overtime and barely slept. Only coffee had kept you awake for a while.

"How long was I out?" you couldn't help but ask as you made your way to the kitchen.

The figure of a person wearing an apron stood behind the counter with an amused look on their face.

They had their arms crossed over their chest, a playful smirk present on their lips as they looked right at you.

"Not too much longer than me, I suppose. Now come, I made breakfast."  A gentle hand reached forward to help you take a seat at the stool in front of the counter.

"Thanks, love." You smiled softly as you took in a deep whiff of the delicious aroma coming off the pan.

You've never actually eaten anything cooked by them since most of the time, you would have takeouts or just go out to eat.

Taking the spoon and fork from the side, you looked at the food on the table. There were eggs sunny-side up, hash browns, pancakes, bacon, sausage, and coffee. Almost looked like something out of the movies, to be honest. You smiled.

C/N probably had noticed your expression since they quickly raised an eyebrow at you. "Is there something interesting, Y/N?"

You shook your head slowly as you started to pick up pieces of hash brown with the fork. "No, I'm just surprised you'd cook today. What's the occasion?"

Their face was unreadable however when you asked that question. "You don't remember?"

They seemed genuinely concerned about this and you suddenly felt bad for not knowing what it was about. "Remember...?"

There was a soft chuckle from C/N who then placed a box in front of you. A cake. "I can't believe you forgot your own birthday."

You could feel your cheeks heat up as you looked down in embarrassment. You didn't think about it at all. "I guess I just wasn't expecting it..."

You were so caught up in work, you didn't even bother looking at the date until now. C/N noticed your flushed cheeks and waved their hands.

"Oh honey, there's no need to be embarrassed. I know how busy your life is these days. You're always going on and on about wanting to do more than your job and being independent. It's okay that you're forgetting a simple day like this."

The sincerity in their voice was reassuring. You gave them a weak smile before taking another bite of your food.

After finishing breakfast, C/N asked you if you'd both spend the day together outside or at home. While you weren't necessarily against the idea of going out, the thought of staying indoors made you feel more comfortable.

When you told them that you had wanted to stay home for this moment, they only smiled in understanding before suggesting, "Movie marathon then?"

A small nod in response was all it took for them to run off and get everything set up on the TV. You couldn't help but smile and realize how lucky you were to have them.

Putting on and choosing the movie, you both spent hours curled up on the sofa with plates piled with snacks and soda. Every once in a while, one of you would sneak glances at each other with smiles and laughs.

At some point, you found yourself leaning in closer towards C/N, resting your head against their shoulder while staring up at the screen.

As your fingers laced together on top of your lap, you couldn't help but blush and glance downwards, cheeks tinted in red.

"Is something wrong, love?" You suddenly heard them ask as you shook your head.

"No, I'm just cherishing this moment. That's all." A light squeeze of your hand was the only response you got as the last lines of the movie played out.

A moment of silence surrounded you both before you felt them lean in and kiss your forehead. "I love you so much, Y/N." Your heart melted instantly as you leaned into their touch.

"I love you too, C/N." With that, you both finally settled in to watch the rest of the movie in content.

Once the credits rolled up on the TV, the two of you sat still for a bit. The air between you was warm and calm as you leaned in and pecked their lips.

"Thanks for the birthday surprise," you whispered after pulling away.

They grinned, "Anything for you."

It took you both a while before you heard them speak again.

"Now, what do you want to do next?" they asked as you then looked back to the table. There was still a bit of food left since C/N cooked a lot earlier and there was still that cake that wasn't even opened yet.

"I was thinking of making some hot chocolate or eating the cake you bought. Wanna join me?"

You saw them smile brightly before standing up from the couch. You were about to stand up as well but then they put their arms around you before carrying you bridal style.

"Wha--!" You giggled before you wrapped your arms around C/N's neck. "You can put me down, you know."

"Well, we can either eat the cake or..." they then trailed off before licking their lips. You only laughed at their comment before slapping their shoulder.

"Hey, it's too early in the morning." They only looked at you in disbelief.

They then smirked.  "What? That's not the only cake in this house."

"I might not be able to keep myself in control. Both are ravishing," they added.

Blushing at the comment, you only laughed before shaking your head in astonishment.
