The dark ashen brown pages of the books reeked of the smell of inked parchment. Every cursive word and interictally detailed footnotes noted by neon-coloured paper slotted between the pages created a texture similar to a calla lily. Evelynn carefully balanced the four books in her hands, trying to unlock the door with a pinky finger. The hardcover cover of the fantasy book tickled the bottom of her nose as she pushed the books onto her arm, grasping fully onto the doorknob.

Each book had millions of letters arranged into some sort of word, that described an entire world and the development of its characters. The perfection of the wording and details, thought-provoking explanations of effortless thoughts resonated with Evelynn, as she admired authors who could write about such heart-wrenching and guttering loss and euphoric, self-sacrificing love. Within the four books swindled up her arm each noted with coloured paper and a review written in her handwriting slotted between the final page and hardcover back. She thought of him and the slick, fluttering smile he would give at the sight of the books which reminded her of him. With the second click of the doorknob, the brown oak door creaked open, displaying a thin line of the sun onto the dark green carpet. She popped her head into the small space between the frame and the opening of the door. With an inhale she wrapped her ankle around the corner of the door and pulled it open further.

The veins protruded from her fists as Evelynn tightly wrapped her hands over the hardcovered books. The binding cracking underneath her grip. Within moments her fingers ached and with a painful exhale she released them, watching them hit the ground, snapping their attention to her. She stood in the middle of the doorframe. The sun glistened over the carpet and her face. The glass doors to the balcony illuminated the dark rug sprawled under the desk where they were. The sprawled clothing and the bare skin glistening in the afternoon sunlight made Evelynn sick to her stomach. Slowly, her hands etched to her face, covering her mouth as a gasp appeared on her pink lips. Shaking she swallowed, wanting to blink the sight away. Her tears filled the corner of her eyes, a small lump grew in her throat and a crack etched in her heart. Wide enough for fragments to enter the bloodstream of a Queen.

Audria's hips were wrapped around Azrael's as he sprawled her out on his desk. Their limbs were frozen as her blue eyes widened. They exchanged glances and Azrael pulled himself off Audria. Her yellow dress was removed down to her waist and the fabric of his pants was the only space between them. Given another moment Evelynn could have walked into a scene of complete indifference. Azrael visibly swallowed before grasping the sprawled shirt and tugging it on. Audria immediately wrapped her arms around her corseted bodice.

They stood there like children who had been caught in the act of mis-behaviour. The imitate and soon-to-be revealing scene at the sight of her eyes. Evelynn continued to stand there as if she was conjuring a response of significance.

Evelynn lowered herself to the ground and picked up the dropped books. The covers burst open and the note fell onto the rugged floor. Placing the final book into her hands she glanced at him.Azrael continued to stand there watching her move with a swift urgency. She dropped the books on his bedside table, hearing them clatter as the heavy books made contact with the dark oak. Evelynn turned to face them, her hands placed behind her. A forced smile appeared on her lips. The pure plastered smile and rapid blink Azrael knew all too well. Evelynn bowed her head without even mumbling a word and walked out. Closing the door on her way out.Clutching her chest Evelynn leant on the door, wishing to sink into the floor. Wishing to drown the sight away from the endless sea of her mind. She raised the back of her palm to her hand and rubbed the corner of her eyes, before standing up and walking down the sunlight corridor. A neon pink coloured piece of paper dwindled between her fingers.

Azrael adverted his gaze to Audria. Her brown eyes crinkled and eyebrows gathered across her forehead in confusion. Azrael without a momentarily thought, ran to the door and threw it open. He didn't know what his heart was pulsating so heavily for. He wasn't one of hope, but the dire shred of hope in the depths of his soul wished that she remained in the corridor. The only thing however was a full bookcase opposite the corridor and an empty sunlight hallway.

Evelynn rolled over to face him propping her hand underneath her chin. With a small inhale she raised her other hand and grasped the silk sheet lapping her torso and pulled it up over her bust. The silken sheets stroked her bare skin as Evelynn lay there observing sleeping Azrael. The majority of people would say that their love was like the sun. Warm, bright and comforting. Evelynn wanted her moon. Dark and memorizing. Mysterious and serene. She found a person who made her heart pound with adrenaline while simultaneously making her body freeze with uncertainty. After all, there is darkness within him, but Evelynn quite liked hiding in the shadows.

She raised the side of her palm and placed it against his cheek. The honeyed skin, with dents and small marks on his face, conjured a man similar to the Gods. As he exhaled from his nose she drew her hand back.Azrael retreated his hand from his side and grabbed her wrist, holding her hand over his face. His eyes remain closed.

As they flickered open his green eyes slid to her wrist, which he held above his cheek. Azrael released her wrist, his fingers dragging across her skin. The calloused tips of his fingers trickled down her warm skin, her eyes locking onto his. He then shifted closer placing his hand on the side of her face, cupping her cheek. The small textured bumps and dents in her face felt silken and glowed underneath touch.

He tilted his head closer to hers, and wrapped his hand around the back of her neck, intertwining his fingers in her knotted hair. Evelynn exhaled gently her eyes flickering down to his bare chest and back to his eyes. As she leaned closer Azrael slipped an arm around her waist, pressing her bare chest against his. Azrael traced her spine with his index finger, the shivering causing Evelynn to press herself even closer.

"Stay," he whispered against her lips. "Just stay,"

Azrael watched for a rebuttal from her pink lips or a curse to lift off her tongue. Instead, she stared and gazed into his eyes, not breaking even for a moment. He would tear the entire world apart for her. To kiss those lips once more. Azrael would wrap her wounds, tend her aching soul and nurse her fail heart. Anything she desired from him. His life, his crown, his kingdom. Anything at all he happily put it all in his palms and give it to her in order to stay. All Evelynn replied with was a small nod,

Evelynn laughed with her entire body as she walked down the hallway. Throwing her head up to the Gods. Her desperation in her laugh even the Gods could feel rattle them. But Evelynn could not help but stare straight ahead of her. As she flicked the pink tab in between her fingers she effortlessly wished that he was a book, simple to read. Evelynn never realized that someone like him could be so complex. Evelynn wished he was a book so she could flip through his pages, underline parts of him, fold the corners of his pages, and tell her friends how wonderful he was. To gift him and to escape reality with him in her hands. And watch his once sweet words and actions sweep through the pages. That she could set him alight and watch

Evelynn examined the translucent tempered glass guide the colours of the sun over her bedroom floor. The pinks and yellows sprawled across the mat, her feet and her blade. She gazed out of the window to the forest the final time before tugging on her green dress. The most challenging decisions require the strongest will and Evelynn's will was tungsten. His actions were the ultimate test of will and tyrannical monarchic behaviour. His actions the birth of anarchy.

Evelynn slid her sword down the back of her dress. The ends of her black hair covered the hilt of blue and silver.

As she was going to set his world alight.
