I decide to wait til v wanted to change our last names. She wasn't ready and It didn't feel right to do it without her.
I go to Archie's gym because he's meeting with the social worker we know to turn the place into a community center.
"Monroe and I will group the kids for boxing and MMA lessons according to their age" arch says
"We'll keep the gym open until 10:00 so kids like my brother have a place to hang after school and keep them off the streets before they go home" mad dog says
"Oh that all sounds wonderful I just want you to be aware of how much work this will actually entail" the social worker says
"And what about school Archie?" Mary asks
"Mr Keller will be here during the day" Archie says
"Archie when was the last time the gym had a safety inspection? If this is really going to be a community center, there are updates you'll have to do at minimum adding a second bathroom" The social worker says
"Oh that sounds expensive" Mary says
"We'll figure it out mom" Reggie says
"Me and v will help in anyway we can" I say
After the interview with her and she leaves I go up to Archie and mad dog "do you guys train girls here? I was wondering if you guys could teach me a little bit." I say
"Didn't know you were interested Avery" arch says
"Every girl needs to know how to fight, and I'll be off to college next year. Without sweet pea and I would love to know to to defend myself better" I say
"Sure we can go for a run later and then I can show you some moves" Archie says
"Thanks Archie" I say
We go for a run later and he teaches me how to hit the bag
"I'm looking at around 40 grand to pay for the renovations that the gym needs" arch says
"I hate to say it again arch but me and ave could just lend you the money" v says
"No Ronnie I don't want to take any more handouts I want to work for it I just need to figure out what that work can be" Archie says
"You sound like sweet pea" I mumble
"We could host a charity concert" kev says
"Could have a bake sale?" Betty says
"You'd have to sell a lot of cupcakes" mad dog says
"Now hold on, I think bs onto something not a bake sale per se but looking at you four strapping young men, there is another classic way to raise money" v says
That's how I stood outside in a pops outfit washing cars watching the boys wash the cars
"What's the hail ronni?" Archie asks after she plots soppy money on the table
"A little over four" v says
"Grand? That's great" Archie says
"Hundred Archie I think I overestimated the financial pull of your pectorals" v says and Archie throws the money
"Hey it's a start arch have to start somewhere " I say
"Maybe we can do a magic mile night at la bonne nuit or dare I say you boys go the full Monty" v says and Archie scoffs
"We'll figure something go out, we always do" v says
I was in the gym working out with Archie when mad dog ran in
I wore a black sports bra and some basketball shorts. With my hair up in a pony tail
"Red we gotta go we gotta get these guys now!" Mad dogs yells
"What are you talking about?" Archie asks
"Malcolm got jumped by some thugs for not making deliveries he wasn't even hanging at the arcade he listened to me and he still got hurt red" mad dog says I take my gloves off
"Let's get these son of bitches" I say throwing my gloves down
"Is he gonna be ok?" Arch asks
"He's a tough kid he's seen worse Malcolm said that thugs work for some guy named dodger he recruits kids from the arcade gets them to break into houses make deliveries jack cars all kinds of crap riverdales no place for people that prey on kids so let's teach them a lesson. Me and you and Avery if she wants let's go down their like old times" mad dog says
"I do t think that's such a good idea if you get caught you might end up behind bars and you got your brother and your grandma depending on you now. I'll talk to FP put this dodger guy on his radar and we'll let the cops take care of it but this place this is how we're going to help riverdale" arch says
That night I stop by v's with v to see Smithers "Smithers?" V says as we walk through the apartment
We see our father at his desk "daddy?" I ask
"You're supposed to be in jail" v says
"Mija I own that jail I come and go as I please" our dad says "I heard a nasty little rumor that you two were dropping the lodge name" he says
I sigh and we walk in "I've never taken the trash out daddy but I know when somethings rotten" v says
"That name is mud, and we're done with it" i say as we stand at his desk now
He stands up
"Do you two know who Jamie Luna was?" Our dad asks
"Doesn't ring a bell" v says
"Yeah well, Luna was my fathers name, and Jaime Luna was the name of his only son. Me. I wasn't born Hiram Lodge. I became him, you have no idea what it was like to be a Luna in a town like riverdale everyone looked down on us because of that name. So I took a name that people would respect. Lodge. And when my father found out, he was angry. And he beat me, and I didn't understand it because I didn't want his life I wanted mine, my own name. What was the big deal well mijas it is now in this very moment that I understand my fathers rage do you two think that changing your guys names is going to wash away your sins? It won't." He says
"We're not going down the same path as you did daddy" v says
"You two kept telling yourselves that because you guys will always be part of this family. It's in your blood. And that doesn't wash out. Don't bother changing the locks you can't keep me out" he says before leaving.
I go home crying
"What's wrong?" Sweets asks standing up
"How can you love me I'm a lodge it's in my blood to be bad and to sin" I cry he wraps his arms around me
"I love you because despite being a lodge you have always proven you are nothing like your family" he says
"I wish I could drain my blood and start over" I whimper and he chuckles
"Well promise me you won't cuz I need a girlfriend not just a empty body" he says and I laugh I look up at him and kiss him
"I love you" I whisper
"I love you to" he says and wipes my tears.
The next day Charles finds me "Betty has been kidnapped by Edgar" he says
I go with him he gets a call from Betty
"I'm inside the motel" she says
"Betty you have got to get out of there" I say
"Governor Dooley is sending in a team of mercenaries right now" Charles says
"Tell them to stand down there's a bus load of unarmed civilians, including women and children headed your way" Betty says
"Betty is fangs on that bus" I ask
"Yes Avery he's on it" she says a sigh of relief escapes my mouth
Me and v decided to change our last names to Luna.
At home I lay with sweet pea "so your officially Avery Luna?" He asks me
"Well yes I am" I am
"I like it" he says and leans down and kisses me
