THE GIRL IN THE VANITY MIRROR
I just love old things, so I also love to collect them.
My lola gave me a vanity mirror because she knows how I am addicted to old things, and that mirror is the oldest among my collections.
"Lola? How many years..." I shifted my eyes to the mirror and pointed it. "...that vanity mirror?"
My lola smiled. "I don't know, I think it's already a thousand years ago?"
My eyes grew bigger. "Woah?! That old?"
"Yes, so take care of it. Our ancestors took care of that mirror that's why it's still here."
"Ofcourse lola! You know how I take care of my things, especially my collections."
"Okay. I am not wrong for giving it to you."
My lola already leave my room and I immidiately go to that vanity mirror.
I am really mesmerized. I softly touch and appreciate every detail of it.
I looked on the mirror and I saw my own refelection.
I widely smiled, I brushed my hair and I proudly uttered, "I am really handsome, huh."
But my eyes grew bigger on shocked because I heard a voice— it was a girl.
"What a thick face."
My brows furrowed, where the hell that voice came from?!
I turned my head on my left side, on my right side, at my back, and I even roamed my eyes around my room but I can't see any human being.
"I am the only one here? And my lola just leave few minutes ago. Lola? Is that you? Lola?" I asked.
"Look at the mirror moron!" I almost fell on my chair when it's not already my reflection but it's a girl in the mirror.
"W-What—" I can't uttered even a single word because of shocked.
"I should be the one who will be afraid of because I am the owner of this vanity mirror and I just saw a man being an arrogant telling himself that his handsome." She even rolled her eyes at me.
She is inside the vanity mirror. And what? She's the owner? So she live a thousand years ago?
I stared at her for a moment. She look innocent with her thick eyelashes and eyebrow, with her black eyes, rosy cheeks, proud nose, to her reddish lips, with her long black straight hair and her porcelain skin that match her features.
She snapped her fingers so I came back to the reality that this is really happening.
"Hey! Why this is happening?" she asked. So she didn't know anything too?
I just shrugged my shoulders. "I don't know either."
I raised my hand and touch the mirror itself and I startled because my right hand just pierce through the mirror and I felt something different. A different sensation from my hand.
I saw the girl in the vanity mirror who looks frighten. "Y-Your hands! W-Why?" I know she's confused like me.
And curiosity really got me. "I wanna go there. Can I?"
But before she can answer me, I already pierce my whole body to the mirror and there, I came to her place.
I felt somthing really different.
"What the?! What did you just do?!" she shouted.
I roamed my eyes and I think that this is her room.
"I just came to your place?"
"Go back! Go back!" she shouted in horror.
I tried what she want me to do but my hand wouldn't pierce into her vanity mirror.
I looked at her and shrugged my shoulder. "Just tour me here in your place, we can't do anything. Maybe I can go back to my place later, and I guess the portal is temporarily closed?"
"Argh! What I have done?"
"What's your name?" I just asked.
"Dashna. And you are?"
"Aeden."
She rolled her eyes at me. "Come with me. I don't want my Dad to see me with a guy in my own room. I'll just tour you in our resort."
"You own a resort?" She nodded her head. "So you are that rich?"
She tiredly gazed at me. "My family, not me. I still did not create my own name in the industry."
When we go out to her room, the fresh air from the sea embraced me.
"W-Woah!" My eyes grew bigger at the paradise I am seeing right now.
"Is this even real?!" I asked myself. I can't believe this!
"I can see green! I can see mountains! I can see trees! I can see the ocean! i can see islands! This is an indeed a paradise!" I uttered in disbelief. And I breathe deeply. "And the fresh air..."
I heard her laughed while she's looking at me mesmerized by the nature.
"It's normal, Aeden."
"N-No! This is not normal, we don't have this in our place!" She just shooked her head not believing what I've said.
"B-But—" I stopped talking when she held my hand.
"Lets's go! I'll tour you. This is our private resort and there," she pointed her fingers and I looked at what she wanted me to see, "It's our another resort but it's for the tourist and for the people who came here to have a vacation."
I nodded my head. So that's why there's no human here except her because this resort is private.
She dragged me while holding my hand. "Wait, where are we going?"
"I'll tour you!" Then she smirked at me.
She dragged me in the ocean and we walked on the seashore.
"So are you not afraid of me?" I asked suddenly.
"Hmm, at first when I saw you in the reflection of my mirror— but you are an arrogant and that remove my fear." I laughed at what she said.
"You are hurting me. Am I not handsome for you?"
"Well, ahm you are handsome— but not my type."
I just pouted my lips.
"Let's sit here, then talk some random things," she said and we sat on the sand while looking at the calm clear blue ocean.
"So what you just said again earlier? You are amazed by the nature, can I ask why?" she asked curiously.
"Well, what's the year here?" I saw her brows furrowed.
"2020, why?"
"Woah. It's really a thousand years gap. To our place, it's year 3020." And now she is the one who looked surprise.
"There's no tree to your place? Or any nature that you are mesmerizing here?"
"Well we have a tree there but we need to pay for it just to see that one tree," I sadly uttered.
"Only one tree?!" I nodded at her.
"You can only see building, you can't even see any color green or nature there. We are full and invaded by technologies. And robot are the one who are controlling everything that is created by humans."
"Well, this is your opportunity to appreciate all the living things you don't have in your place. Let's go swim?"
She grabbed me again and now our clothes are soaking wet.
"You!" I glared at her but she laughed and throw me waters from the sea.
I also throw her waters and we are now laughing at each other.
We ran in the water and we giggled because we can't run properly in the water.
"Aeden!"
"Bleh! Chase after me, Dashna! You are slow!"
We smiled, giggled, laughed and played in the ocean.
After that we changed our clothes and dry ourselves and walked somewhere and talk again, some random things.
She even get me a mangoes in their trees and we ate it. It's delicious because we don't have that in our place.
"Here!" She sighed heavily.
"What are we going to do here?" I asked.
"We will see the sunset!" She pointed the yellow orange sky.
"W-Wow, it's beautiful..."
"I know that you will love it! I always came here just to see the beauty of sunset. Like a goodbye a beautiful yet tragic."
"You are right."
We talked again. I don't know but I am happy with her. I just felt the pure happiness. I don't want to end this.
A couple of hours, she dragged me again to her beach house.
"Let's go, I'm gonna cook you my favorite filipino dish."
She really cooked for me. And we dine to her dining area and ate all the food she cooked.
She is staring at me when I ate the food.
"What are you looking at?" I asked.
"Ahm? Is it delicious? I mean the food..."
I looked at her in a serious face.
"Isn't it delicious? Oh, I'm sorry! Gosh, I need to practice more, it's a shame for me!"
I smiled widely to her.
"Nope. It's really delicious!" After I said those words, I heard her sighed and pouted her lips like a kid.
"Hmp! You tricked me."
We finished eating and we go to her room after we talked.
"So try to pierce on the mirror. You need to go back because my father will come here later to check on me," she sadly said.
"I'll be back again here. I promise."
"Sure?"
I nodded. "Yeah. I am happy to be with you. This is one of the most happiest day that happened in my life."
We stared at each other.
"Okay, I hold on to that. Come here again, okay?"
I gazed to the mirror and I pierce myself and it's success.
I gazed at her before I come again to my place. "Goodnight, Dashna."
She smiled back to me. "Goodnight, Aeden. 'Til we meet again."
When I finally came to my place I immidiately find my lola.
"Lola! Lola!" I shouted.
"What is it, hijo?" she looks confused when she saw me running out of breath.
"Lola, I just saw a girl in the vanity mirror." I didn't told her that I came to Dashna's place.
"I know that it will happen. But do you perhaps permeate using that vanity mirror? Or pierce through the use of mirror?" I lied and shooked my head to my lola.
I heard her sighed.
"I think it's a good thing, because that vanity mirror is a cursed. I don't want my hijo to be stress out."
"What cursed lola?" I sensed that she is hesitating to tell me.
"Well the girl in the mirror hijo died in her time and the vanity mirror is the witnessed of her death. It's a long story, hijo and you are not the chosen one for me to tell you the detail, just take care of it then you'll give that to your next generation."
Well, so I am the chosen one? I need to find what's the reason behind it.
"Can I ask again?" I asked.
"W-What if I am the chosen one?" I felt her stopped and stared at me for a couple of seconds.
"I hope you are not apo. It's not good to be the chosen one. And if you are, I can't do anything but to tell you the secret of that vanity mirror."
"But lola, what's the secret? Please tell me." I pouted my lips because I know my lola can't resist me. I'm her favorite apo!
"Aeden, you really know how to get me. Yeah, I don't really know the story behind the vanity mirror. But if you are the chosen one, there will be a letter that the vanity mirror will give you, and in that letter is the reason why you are chosen."
I almost hear my heartbeat. I am afraid to that letter that my lola was telling.
I nodded my head and I immidiately go back to my room.
"Dashna! Dashna!" I called her and she popped up in the mirror.
"What? You are disturbing me. Tell me that it's important."
"I already know what's the reason why I can go to your place." I saw her eyes grew bigger.
"W-what? Why?"
I sighed heavily. "Even though it's already a thousand years ago, your vanity mirror is still here because it's a cursed."
"How?"
"This vanity mirror is the witnessed of your death. And my lola tell me that this mirror is just waiting for the chosen one. And that chosen one is me because I can go to your place. And I need to find the letter to know what's behind of your vanity mirror and death."
"Find it! Find it! Please Aeden, I trust you. Help me find why I died."
She looked terrefied, I know because we are talking about her death.
I find that letter in the vanity mirror and... "I got it!"
I open it and read what's inside of that paper.
'You are the chosen one because you are the reason why the girl in the mirror died. You are reincarnated by the person who killed Dashna, and the only way to break the curse is for you to die.'
My hand began to shake and I felt the paper let off from my hand.
I a-am the reason why she died?
"W-What's in letter? Why you look like that?" she asked curiously.
"Dashna, believe me in just a short period of time that I am with you, I fell in love with you. The way you look at me, the way you talk, the way you smile, all of you— I just love it."
"What do you mean, Aeden?"
"I love you, I really do."
I saw her tears already and it break my heart.
"I am reincarnated by the person who are the reason why you died— and the only way to break the curse is for me to die."
I grabbed the knife that I hide to my cabinet.
"No! Don't do it, Aeden! I am here in 2020 and you are in the year of 3020! I will still die. Please, don't do this. I might just in your past, please." She tried to pierce in the mirror but she can't go to my place.
"Find me in your time, in your place Dashna. I don't know the reason why I killed you, but find me and make me change. I'll break the curse for you not to be killed by me in your year. Please, promise me. Change me in 2020, change him in your time and let him fall for you like me."
After I uttered it, I stabbed my heart using the knife.
I spit blood and I felt the pain. "D-Dashna b-before I p-pass o-out. P-P-Promise me."
I heard her sobs. "I promise, Aeden. And I want to tell you, that it's not just you. I also fell in love with you."
I smiled, and it went all black.
