It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

Author's Note: Nine more days 'til Christmas. If you know me in real life, then you would know that Christmas is my favorite Holiday (hence why I write all of these Holiday themed one shots lol). I'll see you guys next week!

One shots (Seokjin):

🎤 It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

Soon the bells will start.

And the thing that'll make them ring is the carol that you sing right within your heart.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

Toys in every store.

But the prettiest sight to see is the Holly that would be on your own front door.

Sure, it's Christmas once more. 🎤

Seokjin Kim has always loved the Winter season.

He hated the cold weather, sure, but he loved the snow that came around, especially since he was the father of a six year old toddler.

His son, Namjoon, was actually born on Christmas Day itself, meaning that they celebrated his birthday and the Holiday at the same time.

Which always put a smile on the toddlers face, since he loved the Holiday, and was always spoiled a little too much by both his parents.

I mean, they loved him dearly and wanted to show him that- unfortunately though, this is where the problem starts.

This would be the family's first Holiday without the toddler's mother, Leah- she died in a car crash earlier that year, meaning that this would be a hard time for the family.

Seokjin, obviously, wasn't going to let this bother him, or affect his relationship with his son, but he couldn't help but feel a little stressed out.

Especially now that he was standing in the middle of a toy store looking at the many shelves of stuffed animals.

He sighed, failing miserably to hide his stress, while his dark brown eyes scanned the shelves, looking for something that his son would be interested in.

Christmas shopping had always been Leah's thing- which made sense, as she's always been more involved with the family, and was better at picking out the gifts.

Take their son, Namjoon, for example: she knew exactly what his interests were, and how to put a smile onto his face.

And that made sense, of course, since she was a stay at home mother, unlike her husband who worked a full time job.

Or at least he used to- since he was now working a part time job, so that he would have more time to take care of his son as a single father.

Which obviously wasn't easy, but he was trying his best, and was putting some money aside into an extra savings account.

He was still struggling mentally, though.

"Do you need some help, Seokjin oppa?" He heard a soft and familiar voice ask from behind him, causing a small smile to appear on his face.

He turned around, only for his dark brown eyes to make eye contact with the brown ones of Destiny Lee, who was a close friend of his.

She was only five years younger than him, with dark brown hair that reached her shoulders, and just so happened to work at the local toy store.

Which just so happened to be his son's favorite store, meaning that they were

regulars there.

That was how their friendship was able to survive over the years, and they found themselves growing attached to each other- nothing romantic, though.

Not yet anyways.

"That'll be nice honestly," he just responded back, earning a small giggle and a smile from the younger woman.

"Is it a Christmas present you're looking for?"

"Birthday actually."

"And this is for your son, I'm assuming?" She asked, beginning to search the shelves for something appropriate for a young toddler.

"If I remember correctly, he's six right?"

"Seven actually," the ravenette male replied, keeping his posture perfectly straight, while giving her the information that she needed.

"He turns seven on the 25th."

"Ah, a Christmas birthday."

There was a smile on her face as she said those words, and she remembered meeting the young child a couple times when he came in with his mother.

He was a sweet child, looking exactly like her with chestnut brown hair and golden hazel eyes, and was always smiling, looking around the store with curiosity in his eyes.

"Yeah, my wife and I used to call him our Christmas miracle."

"Used to?" She asked him, keeping her tone of voice calm, beginning to take a couple stuffed animals off the shelves.

"What happened to her?"

She noticed him hesitate for a couple seconds, and immediately went to open her mouth to say something, but he interrupted her, answering her question.

"She died- car crash a couple months ago. It's been hard being a single father, but I'm managing."

"Yet you can't shop for your son?" She asked back, generally curious as to why he was having a hard time shopping for the Holidays.

He just smiled in response, showing her that he wasn't mad at her question, and that he was actually expecting it.

"Leah has always been better with Namjoon. I mean, she was a stay at home mother, and knew him better than I do."

The answer was short and simple, but still vague at certain places; she didn't press him about it, though, just showed him a couple stuffed animals that she took from the shelves.

"Do any of these work? These are all the stuffed animals that we have for a toddler his age range."

He looked at them for a couple minutes, before pointing to the cow plushie, knowing that his son would be fascinated by the white and black spotted fur.

"That'll work," he responded, taking it from her, only for his face to drop after looking at the price tag.

"Everything okay, Jin oppa?" She asked him, her tone of voice filled with concern, due to the fact that his face was drained of all color.

"I can't afford it," he muttered to himself underneath his breath, making it hard for her to hear his words.

"What kind of father am I if I can't even afford a birthday gift for my son?"

"I'll pay for it," she blurted out, catching him by surprise, due to the fact that his eyes widened at her words.

"You don't have to do that, Destiny."

"Of course I do, Jin oppa. It's Christmas in a couple of weeks."

He just sighed, telling her that he accepted her offer, following her to the cash register, which was at the front of the building.

He then watched as she paid for it using her credit card, ignoring the older male's pleas that she didn't have to do that.

She gave him a small smile, before placing the cow stuffed animal into the plastic bag, along with the receipt.

"Merry Christmas, Jin oppa," she said, handing him the bag, while her brown eyes made contact with his dark brown ones.

"Merry Christmas, Destiny," he replied back, taking the bag from her, and giving her a small smile back.

He walked out of the store after that, towards his car, which he unlocked, placing the bag inside the back seat with the other Christmas gifts.

Maybe the Holiday wouldn't be so bad after all.

—————

Two weeks later, Christmas arrived.

The house was decorated in cheesy looking Holiday decorations, and there was a brightly lit Christmas tree in the corner of the living room, which was littered with opened presents and wrapping paper that was ripped and torn in certain places.

The young father found himself cleaning up that morning, glancing at his son every once in a while, who was sitting on the living room floor, playing with his brand new cow stuffed animal.

And he was correct about one thing: Namjoon was absolutely fascinated by the white and black spotted fur.

He's always been a quiet child, a little too shy and reserved at times, which always made his mother worry just a little too much.

She was always concerned that he would grow up to have very few friends, and it concerned her how much he hated interacting with people in public.

"Social Anxiety," Seokjin just told her whenever she expressed her feelings, trying his best to get her to calm down.

"We can get him treated for it."

They never did though, and he never knew why that was, just thought that maybe it was due to how busy they were.

I mean, he was working a full time job, while she was a stay at home mother, doing the house chores and taking care of their son.

That was until everything changed.

His thoughts were interrupted by the doorbell ringing, and he stopped what he was doing, his eyebrows furrowing in confusion.

He wasn't expecting anyone, and he didn't have many close friends in the city that they lived in, meaning that he didn't know who was at the door.

He just placed the trash bag aside, before taking one last look at his son, who was throwing his stuffed animal across the floor.

He just smiled softly, used to the toddler's behavior at this point, before walking towards the front door.

He opened it, getting ready to say an annoyed "Can I help you?" only for his dark brown eyes to go wide, confused by the young woman who was standing on the porch.

"Destiny?" He asked, keeping his tone of voice soft due to how early it was, not bothering to hide how confused he was.

"What are you doing here?"

"I just thought I would stop by," she replied, keeping a small smile on her face, her breath noticeable in the cold winter air.

"And give you your Christmas gift in person."

"Christmas gift?"

His words trailed off once he noticed the neatly wrapped present that she was holding in her hands; one that he hadn't noticed before.

"Open it," she told him, encouraging him to open her gift, since she knew that he most likely wasn't expecting to get a gift himself.

And he wasn't, as his gift giving tradition died when his wife passed away, and he lost all passion for giving gifts to people that weren't his son.

"I'm afraid I didn't get you one," he responded back, keeping his dark brown eyes focused on the present, which he was slowly unwrapping.

"That's alright, Jin oppa. I wasn't expecting you to get me one anyways."

She continued to smile softly, her brown eyes watching as his eye went wide as he stared at the red covered book that was in his hands.

"What's this?" He asked her, flipping through the book only to find empty pages.

"A photo album. I just thought that you could remember old memories, along with the new ones that you'll make with your son."

They both looked at the seven year old when she said those words, watching as he tried to put the stuffed animal in his mouth, pouting when it didn't fit.

"Does he always do that?" She asked, keeping her tone of voice low, so that only the older male, who was standing in front of her, could hear her.

"He's still a toddler, Destiny, meaning that he's still learning about what to do and what not to do."

He went silent after that, his eyes flickering back to the photo album that he was holding in his hands, before looking towards her.

"Thank you. You know that you didn't have to get me anything."

"Merry Christmas, Jin oppa," she just replied, making eye contact with him, and never letting the same fade from her face.

"Merry Christmas, Destiny."

He watched her leave after that, before looking back towards the photo album, lost in thought.

He was slowly realizing that he had some sort of connection with the young woman- it may not have been romantic, sure, but it was still there.

And he couldn't help but think what his life would be like with Destiny in it- would they be happy together?

I mean, he hoped so, since he wanted to move one from his late wife, Leah, knowing that she would want him to find someone that would make him happy.

He glanced back towards his son after he thought that, a small smile appearing on his face.

Maybe Leah was right: maybe Namjoon really was a Christmas miracle.
