Chapter Forty-Five: Why Is Halloween Bad Luck?

"Dumbledore sure knows how to tell a good story," Harry says. "Spinning Krinos's power mishap as a burst of accidental magic was genius."

"Plus, not like anyone in this idiotic country would ever question him," Melody giggled. "They seem to flock toward anyone that has a heroic reputation. Like when they believed Lockhart's stories."

"I thought it would be because he was the headmaster," Krinos admitted. "Being the one to guide hundreds of children every year would get respect from me. Only this country seems to worship people like him."

"From what I know, Dumbledore did some very impressive things in the past," Melody says. "More than just his work with the famous alchemist, Nicholas Flamel, and discovering the twelve uses for dragon blood. Do you guys remember learning about Dark Lord Grindelwald in history class?"

"Was he the dark lord that wanted to turn mundanes into animals to keep as pets," Harry asked.

"No, that was Dark Lady Alondra from Africa," Krinos says. "Was he the dark lord that possessed a sword that could steal the souls from its victims."

"That was Dark Lord Koragama from Japan," Melody said. "And he was more of an anti-hero than anything else, but it's not like we were there to correct the person that wrote that history book about him. Grindelwald was the dark lord that wanted mundanes to be slaves to magical beings 'for their own good."

"Probably one of the most ridiculous dark lords ever," Krinos crossed his arms. "Mundanes and magical beings should forever be separated, never to mix in any way."

"Grindelwald was the reason why Dumbledore is so well-respected," Melody explains. "There used to be an unbreakable vow between the two before Dumbledore found a way to break it. They vowed never to fight each other. But when it was finally broken, there was an epic duel between Dumbledore and Grindelwald. Dumbledore won and imprisoned Grindelwald for the rest of his life."

"That explains why people look up to him so much," Harry says. "He's a war hero."

"Leave it up to this country to have two dark lords in a single century," Krinos shook his head.

The three of them were setting up for their All Hallow's Eve ritual. They never skipped a year. It was disrespectful to the dead and to magic itself not to celebrate the mystical sabbath of the dead.

"Hey, guys," Fred greeted, coming up to the tower.

"How you doing, mates," George smiled.

The Weasley twins, Percy, Neville, Luna, and Cedric all joined them. They had all grown to want to use the ritual as well. Plus, it was a part of magical culture that none of them had experienced yet.

"Just setting up the ritual," Harry says. "It takes preparation to get it right. We do not want to mess it up and accidentally summon an angry spirit."

"Or a poltergeist," Melody giggled. "The last thing this castle needs is another Peeves."

That caused the British wizards to laugh. Everyone knew about all the chaos that the poltergeist tended to create wherever he goes. Fred and George were unsaid partners of Peeves.

"That's possible," Neville was nervous now.

"Messing up a spell can cause anything to happen," Krinos says. "Some of the older students at Crystal Rose tried to create a spell to track merpeople, only to accidentally turn one of them into a mermaid."

"Wow," Cedric gasped. "Guess you three have seen a lot of what magic is capable of."

"No kidding," Harry chuckled. "We have seen almost everything that magic can do. We should show you one of Wyatt's creations some time."
