Chapter 82: Pride Through Music

Start from the beginning

So coming back to town for this felt really special.

Mercedes: You tried to break my heart? Oh, that breaks my heart. That you thought you ever had it. No, you ain't from the start. Hey, I'm glad you're back with your bitch. I mean who would wanna hide this? I will never, ever, ever, ever, ever be your side chick!

Unique's boyfriend, Leo, stood at the front of the crowd with Mercedes' husband, Chad, and both men cheered them on with passion and energy.

Unique: I put the sing in single. Ain't worried 'bout a ring on my finger. So you can tell your friend, "shoot your shot" when you see 'em. It's OK, he already in my DMs.

Down in the booths, Skye was humming along while sitting in front of Everett Matthews and his boyfriend, Eli Ansley, who was giving her a tattoo in front of a dozen spectators. He was a prominent gay tattoo artist and, as of now, a Lima local. It was only right that he put on a show with his talents.

Both: Why're men great 'til they gotta be great? Don't text me, tell it straight to my face. Best friend sat me down in the salon chair. Shampoo press, get you out of my hair.

As for Skye, she wasn't really known for talking about her relationships, but it was widely known that she, as she once put it on Jimmy Kimmel, took dips into the lady pond frequently. And now she was celebrating all of that and more with a simple tattoo of a cloud on the back of her neck, representing herself, Skye, with a cute element of the sky.

Not too far away, Luke was signing autographs and taking pictures, with all the money from the meet-and-greets going to an Ohio LGBT charity of his choice.

Unique: I'ma hit you back in a minute. I don't play tag, bitch, I been it. We don't fuck with lies, we don't do goodbyes. We just keep it pushing like aye yi yi.

Furthest from the stage, Peyton had set up her own booth. With help from Marley and Logan, they were helping Jake further his campaign. He was there, too, standing a few feet from the booth and talking to a pretty sizable crowd about all the work the state still needed to do to move itself towards progress and aid the LGBT community.

All the while Kitty, who had faced nothing but backlash in the last two weeks over the Pride posters, her apparent lies about Julie's involvement, and the big, heterosexual names that were used to market the event, took a step back from the event the day of.

She was there, but hiding out in a building that overlooked the park, watching Jake wrap the LGBT voters around his fingers. Soon, she hoped, she could step out of the shadows and take credit for the event she had put together. For now, all she needed was for things to run smoothly.
