The reasons they were giving, were not good enough for him. He didn't want to hear anything of it.
He was a singer, and a damned good one at that. What more could they possibly want?
Dino's voice was too precious to be silenced in such a way, but apparently no one else, but him, could see it that way.
He did all he could do, and it simply wasn't enough, and to be told no, and that you're not good enough, more than a few times, could take a heavy toll on a person.
Without anyone's knowledge, Dino had fallen back into depression. This time being a lot worse than the first.
At this point, he was predictable. Dana could always tell when something was wrong with him, because of how closed off he would get with others around him.
The only difference from now and back then, is she had her own life to focus on. She couldn't stop to check on Dino, because it was no longer her responsibility.
As selfish as it may have sounded, it was the truth.
"Stanky, what you doing? Watching Elmo?"
Diamond aimlessly nodded her head at her mother's questions, her eyes never leaving the television.
Dana knew this was the way to not only keep Diamond calm, but also on the toilet. This tactic was the most effective out of all of them, and surprisingly Diamond, had grown to love Elmo a lot more than her sister did.
Dana checked the time on her wristwatch, and concluded, that she'd been in front of the television long enough.
"Come on stanky."
Diamond's eyes were still on the television when Dana lied her in her lap, so she could place another pull up on her.
Even when Dana tried talking to her, the baby paid absolutely no attention whatsoever to her mother.
After securing the diaper, Dana sat Diamond up in her lap, and placed a couple kisses on her face.
She didn't appreciate the fact that she was being ignored by her own child, but Diamond didn't seem to care.
"I see Elmo is more important than your mommy huh?" She semi joked.
Diamond chewed on the pacifier in her mouth, taking a quick glance between her mother and the television.
"Emmo," she said, while pointing at the television.
Dana smiled and gave her cheek another kiss, "fine, I forgive you, since you're so cute."
Bbrriiinngg! Bbbrrinnggg!
She reached over and grabbed the telephone off of the hook, pressed talk and placed it to her ear, "hello."
"Dana, I'm glad I caught you, I thought you had left the house already."
"No, I'm off from work today, and the kids aren't out of school yet. It's just me and Diamond," Dana raised her hand up to caress Diamond's cheek.
"When is the last time you spoke to my son?"
Dana had to stop and rack her brain in order to remember the last conversation she had with Dino over the phone, though the words were brief, they still kept in contact with each other every week.
"Umm, it was a few days ago. He was supposed to be coming by later to pick up the kids, since it's his weekend."
"I'm worried for my son Dana."
"W-Why? W-What's wrong with h-"
"I haven't seen or spoken to him since last week. I've tried calling him, but he won't return my calls, it just goes to voicemail. I'm not even sure if his phone works."
