*April 1997*
"What's up bitches?!"
"Oh my God, they're here! Kayla they're here!" Dana stopped what she was doing in the kitchen to meet her cousins, Tanasha and Joi, at the front door.
The girls chucked their bags at the front door, and ran to give Dana a hug, "aaaahhh!" They all screamed together in excitement. The screams made Dae'sha nervous; she had to run out of the playroom just to see where it was coming from.
"Oh my God, why it feel like it's been forever since I seen y'all?" Dana asked, as she broke the hug.
"That's, because it has." Tanasha started.
"Y'all all bougie acting, since ya living up here in L.A. now. Ya done forgot about your family in little ol' Houston." Joi finished, her country accent coming out clear as ever.
Dana instantly felt home sick. L.A. was an okay place to live, but Houston will forever be her home. All the people she knew and loved lived there, meanwhile she knew no one here, but her sister.
That didn't count for much, since she was almost never home. It made Dana feel as if she were in her marriage again, only the house was bigger and it had a little more people in it.
She needed a job, or a hobby, maybe even try to go back and finish school. She had one more year before she graduated, and she just knew there was some kind of way she could make up for all the time she'd missed.
Life had thrown so many curveballs at her, she'd completely forgotten about her education, but she also had two kids to raise with no income, dropping out wasn't an option.
Dana pointed behind her shoulder, "talk to Kayla, she the one with all the money, I'm just temporarily staying here." She admitted, trying her best to put all the guilt off onto her sister.
"I heard that," Kayla emerged from the kitchen with Devin on her hip, "and that is a lie." She pointed out, bumping her sister in the shoulder as she walked past.
Dana giggled and shrugged her shoulders.
"Look at fat man! He done got so big!" Tanasha squealed, while pinching Devin's cheeks.
"And he looking more and more like his daddy too."
"Please don't remind me." Dana groaned, as she grabbed Devin from Kayla. She still wasn't too happy about the fact that Kayla had made the decision to invite the boys to her wedding, well mainly Dino, she was totally fine with the other two attending. She just didn't care to see Dino's face.
This divorce had the two of them feeling a certain way towards each other, that required for them to not be in the same room together.
But as always, they were just going to have to suck it up and put their differences aside for the sake of their kids and Kayla.
Kayla just hoped that they would be able to get along and not tear the place up before her actual wedding day.
"Dada!"
"Can you say mama, you starting to make me look bad."
"Da!"
"Okay."
Tanasha laughed and pinched his cheeks, "look at them fat jaws."
"Where's Dae'sha?"
"She's in the play room."
"So, are we going to get a tour of this big beautiful house or what?" Tanasha asked, as she looked around the living room. She still could not believe that her cousin was living so lavishly, houses like these could only be seen in the movies where she came from.
