Rooftop

I sat on the rooftop of my apartment, not wanting to hear the bickering of my parents. As they did every night these days. I have learned to take this place as my escape. It was 7 stories tall. Tall enough that if I jumped I would be dead in a instant.

The wind was barely blowing. Just enough to hear it against the tree branches. The leaves whistled with the air to my left. I sighed as I watched my legs dangle above the cars below. I could feel the vibration of my phone in my pocket, knowing who it is I ignored it. It was just my ex. I caught him cheating last week. With a very good friend of mine... One who would never do that to me, at least I thought. He wanted to talk today at school. I looked down at my arm, the little bruises from his finger nails clinging to my skin making me gulp. I grabbed my phone from my pocket. I looked at my screen as my vision blurred with tears. I threw it down to the sidewalk below where I barely heard the shattering of the screen. I hid my head in knees and started cry.

I don't know how long I was crying when he walked out.

This guy. Named Shawn, he lives below me, opened the door to the roof. I turned to see him. I was slightly. I have never seen him up here before. I never really talked to him either. Just a few small talks at school or in the lobby. We used to be friends. But it just faded away a few years ago. He looked at me.

"Hi Y/N," He said concerned and walked up. "I have noticed you always seem to come up here so I decided to give it a try," I nodded. He must of noticed I was crying. He sat down. "Why are you crying,"

"Its stupid. Life is stupid," I wiped my eyes and avoided contact.

"You mine as well tell me. What happens on the roof stays on the roof right?"

I lightly chuckled. I shook my head. After silence took over for a minute. He spoke up again.

"I heard your parents," I looked at him. Tears threatened to stream again as I felt humiliated. "They were screaming. I heard glass break and I had to find you. To make sure you were okay," He said. I cocked my head to the side a little bit. "You seem like you don't care about me anymore. I guess maybe my feelings for you never left. Because I still worry about you. Every night," He said. My parents fought even back when we were friends. I would always go to his apartment to hide when I was scared. We would hide under his bed and play games on his DS. And talk. Who knew 12 year olds could have such deep conversations. "Should I be?" He asked. I thought about it.

"They are getting divorced soon. I saw the papers on the table," I whispered. He bit his lip. Then smiled.

"Do you remember when we got married?" He laughed. I did too lightly, recalling the event.

"But a only friend marriage. That we would be friends forever." I reminded.

"Why did we get divorced?" He asked. Though the slight joke was there I knew the seriousness. I gulped.

"Because my boyfriend. He didn't like how we were so I had to stop being friends with you. I was so stupid. He ended being the bad one," I glanced at my arm. In which Shawn never noticed. He looked down and immediately got angry.

"He did that?" He asked. I nodded. A tear slipped from my cheek. Shawn went to touch my shoulder but I quickly stood. He stood with me. "Its okay Y/N," He cooed but I ignored him. Then he did something. He intertwined our fingers. "I got you," I glanced at his eyes. They were locked on me. "We got each other." "Even when things are hard and there is no escape, I got you and you got me," He said.

"I got you and you got me," I repeated.

"Real or not real?" He asked. I waited a second.

"Real,"
