GRACE'S P.O.V

Deep within the dimly lit study of Alexander, me and James anxiously awaited the revelation of the elusive solution to our curse. Alexander, with his silver-gray beard and piercing blue eyes, had spent decades delving into the mysteries of the world. He was renowned for his profound knowledge and relentless pursuit of truth. Now, he stood before us, his voice laced with anticipation.

"My dear friends," Alexander began, his voice resonating with wisdom. "I have devoted my life to unearthing secrets hidden in history's darkest corners. Today, I share with you a quest of extraordinary significance—one that could bring about your salvation."

Me and James exchanged glances. Our curiosity was piqued.

"Within the hallowed walls of Vatican City lies the answer we seek," Alexander continued. "Deep within the catacombs, buried in the centuries-old secrets of the church, we need to find the five statues each representing a different element: fire, water, air, earth, and spirit."

My eyes widened. "Do these statues hold the key to breaking our curse, Alexander?"

He nodded. A flicker of excitement crossed his face. "Indeed, my dear. Each statue embodies a hidden elemental force—an essence that has long been safeguarded within their cores. These secret elements possess the power to vanquish curses and restore balance."

''But there are so many catacombs and statues in the Vatican, how will we find the right one?'' James asked.

''That's the challenge - to find the statues that contain the hidden elemental forces and unlock their power.'' Alexander smiled and continued. "The process is not for the faint of heart. Each statue is meticulously guarded, protected by layers of ancient enchantments. To acquire the elements, you must undertake a perilous journey, deciphering riddles, overcoming obstacles, and demonstrating unwavering resolve."

Jesus, this sounds very complex and daunting. It feels like we are in a movie looking for treasure. But who said my life is less than any. James' grip on my hand tightened as if he was trying to assure me that everything will be alright. I took a deep breath and steeled my nerves. I was ready to take on the challenge.

Alexander walked over to a massive oak bookcase, lined with dusty tomes, and retrieved an ancient leather-bound volume. He carefully flipped through its pages." This book has everything about all the statues in the Vatican. We will need this." He handed the book to James. James carefully held the book in his hands and looked at it in awe. He knew this book would be invaluable to our mission.

"But the quest doesn't end there," Alexander continued. A mix of excitement and caution was etched across his face. "This undertaking will test your resolve, your character, and your bond as a couple. It is a path fraught with dangers and uncertainties. But, my friends, should you succeed, you will be forever liberated from the curse that has shackled you." He paused for a moment, allowing the words to sink in before continuing. "Well, what do you say? Are you ready to take the plunge?"

James and I looked at each other, silently finding comfort in each other's gaze, and nodded in agreement. We could do this, and we were ready to take it. No matter how challenging it was going to be, we would face it together. I would do anything to not lose the only thing I own, the only one I ever loved, the only desire I have: James.

"I am really proud of you both, so we will start our mission tomorrow, it is already too late." Alexander smiled. We nodded and thanked him for helping us and being with us on this journey. We left for the Scottish royal family mansion in the Vatican.

James opened the car backdoor for me before he settled down beside me. We drove off for hours until we reached the royal family mansion. The majestic building was illuminated by the moonlight and we could feel history's aura emanating from it. We stepped out of the car, and James took my hand as we walked towards the entrance. The large wooden door opened, and we crossed the threshold into a world of luxury and grandeur. We headed for our room. During our entire journey from Alexander's house, we said nothing, but our eyes said everything. We both wanted our time to prepare for the path we were embarking on and totally understood it.
